Rock inscription reveals ‘Telangana’ is 600 yrs

Hyderabad, March 06: CLAIMING the discovery of a rock inscription belonging to 1417 AD as a historical evidence of the existence of Telangana for over 600 years, the villagers of Tellapur in Ramachandrapuram mandal in Medak district have urged the district collector that their village be renamed `Telanganapuram’.

Telangana Jagruthi, an NGO headed by TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kavitha, today submitted a memorandum to the collector in this regard.

ED seeks court’s nod to record statements

Hyderabad, March 06: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today filed a petition before the special court trying the multi-crore Satyam scam to allow it to record the statements of four Satyam accused.

6 from City die on way to Shirdi

Hyderabad, March 06: Six persons from the city, including a couple, on their way to Shirdi died in a road accident in Maharashtra early today. Two were injured and their condition is said to be stable.

The bus belonging to Kaleswari Travels left Lakdikapul here last night with 24 passengers.

As the sppeding bus reached a steep curve at Jamkhed in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra around 5:30 am, the driver lost control over the steering, letting the vehicle ram a roadside electric pole and a tree, and then overturn, Jamkhed police inspector Rakh told Express over phone.

State within a State is a workable solution

Hyderabad, March 06: The agitation for and against the formation of a separate State of Telangana and particularly the events of the last three months have created a state of uncertainty which is to the detriment of the people in all the regions.

The longer this uncertainty persists, the worse it will be.

The suicides by a large number of young people are a poignant indicator.

A setback to Andhra Pradesh will also have an adverse effect on India’s progress. It is, therefore, essential to bring this state of uncertainty to an end, and without loss of time.

IT official caught taking bribe in Guntur

Hyderabad, March 06: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials arrested a deputy commissioner of income tax and an auditor for demanding and accepting Rs 4 lakh as bribe.

An official press release here today said the deputy commissioner had demanded the money from the complainant through the auditor for accepting the valuation report of a clinic- cum-residential building on the Amaravati Road in Guntur district.

Another tragedy averted: helicopter disappeared from the radar

Hyderabad, March 05: Just two days after Andhra Pradesh was rocked by an air crash, authorities here went into frenzy this morning when a helicopter disappeared from the radar.

The helicopter, however, landed safely in the Huzurnagar town of Nalgonda district after three tension-filled hours.

Khammam district superintendent of police Anil Kumar confirmed that the chopper, which had gone off the radar near Khammam, had safely landed. “The Air Traffic Control in Hyderabad confirmed that this was the same helicopter that had gone missing,” he said.

CBI officer accused of molestation

New Delhi, March 04: A 30-year-old employee of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has alleged she was molested and harassed a senior, police said. A case has been registered against the accused at Lodhi Colony police station after the woman approached seniors.

“We had received a complaint from the office of the CBI director. On the basis of this complaint, we registered a case of molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman,” said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south). The complainant said the accused often harassed her at work and made indecent gestures.

Customs official hacked to death

Tambaram, March 02: A 43-year-old Customs official, working at the Air Cargo Complex of Chennai Airport, was hacked to death by an armed gang at his house in Adambakkam late on Sunday night.

His wife and their two sons, seated inside a car, were also targeted by the assailants, but they had a narrow escape.

New GM for Simhadri power plant

Vishakapatnam, March 02: DK Sood today took over as the General Manager (Incharge) of NTPC’s Simhadri super thermal power plant situated near here.

Sood, who had earlier worked as the general manager of NTPC’s Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Power Project (RGCCPP) at Kayamkulam in Kerala, took over from his predecessor who was transferred as general manager of NTPC’s Talcher super thermal power station in Orissa.

Suicide bid by wife of prime accused

Rajhmundary, March 02: B Rupa Suryasri, wife of B Siva Kumar, a prime accused in the kidnap and murder of advocate Kalyan attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at her mother’s house in Bhaskar Nagar today. Rupa’s mother Usha Rani came to know of it when she entered her room to inform her of a phone call from the police. She found her daughter lying on the bed in unconscious state. She was rushed to Government hospital immediately.

Fake-note racket busted, 4 held

Nellore, March 02: The crime police have busted a counterfeit currency racket by arresting four persons.

Disclosing this to newsmen here today, Superintendent of Police E Damodar said M Nagaraju (21) of Tekkemitta and C Ramachandra Reddy (56) of Ravindra Nagar in Nellore City, P Subbaraju (57) of Sukkupalle in Sullurpet mandal and V Bhaskar (42) of Ranipet in Venkatagiri were arrested when they tried to exchange a fake Rs 1,000 note at a shop in Chinna Bazaar area yesterday.

Cut in cheap liquor prices recommended

As many as 18 persons lost their lives and another seven their eyesight in the tragedy.

TTD officials felicitate and then ignore Lata

Tirumala, March 02: Legendary playback singer and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was made to wait in a car for about halfan- hour on Sunday by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials who failed to inform her of the travel arrangements they had made for her return journey.

Lata arrived here on Saturday at the invitation of the TTD which released a CD of Annamayya keertans rendered by her. She was also felicitated at the function.

Gade falls sick, stable

Guntur, March 02: Minister for Endowments, Gade Venkata Reddy, fell ill due to fall in sugar levels in his body at Bapatla this morning and was rushed to the intensive care unit of Lalita Super speciality hospital in Guntur. His condition, according to doctors attending on him, is stable. Though initially, the doctors wanted to shift him to the Nizam’s Insstitute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, later they dropped the idea as the minister showed signs of quick recovery and all tests conducted on him showed there was no need for worry.

Congress will not contest Sircilla, Huzurabad

Karimnagar, March 02: Andhra Pradesh Congress MPs forum convener and Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said that the party would not contest the coming byelections for Sircilla and Huzurabad Assembly constituencies saying that the respective MLAs quit from their positions in favour of Telangana.

However, he maintained that Congress would contest Vemulawada Assembly bypoll saying that it fell vacant after TDP MLA Ch Ramesh put in his papers following citizenship row but not in support of Telangana.

TDP leader sets his old motorcycles on fire

Kurnool, March 02: In a novel protest against hike in prices of petrol and diesel, TDP leader and former Kurnool mayor Bangi Ananthaiah set two of his motorcycles on fire. He took out the two-wheelers on a rickshaw in procession to the Collectorate and set them on fire.

He lamented that due to the hike the situation didn’t permit use of vehicles. “We don’t have any other go except for opting cycles, rickshaws and bullock-carts,’’ he ridiculed.

6 more bodies retrieved

Chimakurthy, March 02: Six more bodies of workers, who died in a mudslide while at work in a granite quarry here on Feb 25, were retrieved today. With this, the number of bodies retireved has risen to 12.

Officials suspect smore more bodies could be lying trapped among the boulders and mounds of mud at the accident site.

Tanjavur paintings come to V’wada

Vijayawada, March 02: In an effort to introduce the historical Tanjavur paintings to art-lovers in the city, the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, popularly known as POOMPUHAR, is organising an exhibition-cum-sale at Madhu Gardens in the city.

Tanjavur paintings date back to the 16th Century when Marathas ruled Tanjvur. The art had further flourished during the Maratha rule in the 17th and 19th centuries.

4 engineering students suspended for ragging

Guntur, March 02: The Vignan University today suspended four students from its engineering college on charges of ragging a I Year student, K Krishnakant.

Of the four accused, three are reportedly absconding.

K Krishnakant, son of ZP chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya and former chairman of Gandhalaya Samsta Kuchipudi Sambasiva Rao, filed a complaint to the police stating that the accused had been casting casteist slurs on him for the past six months.

Speaking to Express here today, Krishnakant said this had been going on in the college bus and had reached unbearable limits lately.

Raunchy party in Shameerpet raided

Hyderabad, March 02: The illegal and indecent activities in entertainment and amusement places on the outskirts of the city came to light once again with the Cyberabad police arresting 18 young women dancers indulging in vulgar dances in a resort at Shameerpet. Police also arrested 23 persons who were `enjoying’ their weekend at the resort.

On information that partying was going on in the Rev’s Exotica resort at Upperapally village in Shameerpet mandal on the city outskirts, Shamirpet police raided the resort late on Sunday night.
