Samjhauta case: Court declares two accused as offenders

Ahmedabad, July 01: A special court hearing the Samjhauta blast case today declared two of the accused as proclaimed offenders and posted for July 8 the next hearing in the case.

During the in-camera hearing of the case, the court declared Ram Chandra Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange as proclaimed offenders in the case after the NIA said that it had failed to locate them, defence counsel M Rathi told reporters here.

Mumbai, July 01: Revealing that he never wanted to cast Mallika Sherawat for “Murder 2”, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says that he is planning to make “Murder” a franchise and will be coming out with sequels of the erotic crime thriller.

“We didn’t feel the need of Mallika in “Murder 2”. We never wanted Mallika back because unlike “Murder”, which was a woman’s film, this is a man’s film, ” Bhatt told in an interview.

Bhatt says that casting Sri Lankan actress Jacqueline Fernandez in the film was a spontaneous decision.

Tragic end to young love story

Hyderabad, July 01: A youngster died and his lover suffered injuries after they allegedly tried to end their lives by throwing themselves before a speeding vehicle near Shamirpet on Wednesday night. They took the extreme step while being chased by their parents, who were against their affair.

The duo, Naresh (18), a degree student and Anita Jyoti (14), a class IX student, were neighbours in Shivarampally.

On knowing about the affair, their parents objected to it as they belonged to different communities.

Kidnapped trader found murdered and stuffed inside a refrigerator

Hyderabad, July 01: A businessman from Karimnagar district, who was allegedly kidnapped 10 days ago, was found murdered and his body stuffed inside a refrigerator in an apartment at Uppal in the city.

The family had paid Rs 1 lakh as ransom to the abductors after the kidnap but they murdered him nevertheless, police said.

CM promises to rehabilitate minor victim of sex abuse

Thiruvananthapuram, July 01: The Kerala government will meet all the expenses required to rehabilitate the minor girl who had allegedly been forced into sex with more than 100 people, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. More than 40 people, including her parents, have been arrested.

Chandy has written to Congress legislator V.D. Satheesan, who had sought the chief minister’s intervention in the horrific case, promising that the state government would do all it could to help the girl.

Rajdhani Exp loses control, panic at N Delhi stn

New Delhi, July 01: A train accident was averted here at noon when stationary Bhubaneswar-Delhi Rajdhani express train suddenly left a platform of New Delhi railway station towards Ghaziabad side, creating a wave of panic among the railway staff and onlookers.

Some alert staff tried to board the running train to stop it anyhow while others threw boulders on the tracks to halt the train which had come on the platform from Bhubaneswar and was about to be taken to the yards.

The rolling train could be stopped only when a big iron girder was thrown on the tracks.

Chargesheet filed in Barkas attack case

Hyderabad, July 01: Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths filed a chargesheet in the Akbaruddin attack case on Thursday. The special team of CCS headed by investigating officer ACP Maddipati Srinivasa Rao filed the charges before the XII additional metropolitan magistrate, a day before the mandatory period comes to an end.

In the 40-page chargesheet, CCS sleuths named 15 persons as accused and framed charges against 14 persons. One of the accused, Ibrahim Bin Younus, was killed when gunman Jani opened fire to rescue MLA Akbaruddin from the attackers.

Knee replacement surgery of 92 yr old

Hyderabad, July 1: Dr K. Sudhir Reddy, senior orthopedician and joint replacement surgeon of the Deccan Hospitals, performed a successful knee replacement surgery on 92 year old patient.

Dr K. Sudhir Reddy along with Mr Sriramulu Reddy (patient) said during a press conference that the patient had to walk with great difficulty and now after the surgery the patient is fast recovering.

Dr K. Sudhir Reddy said that most of the patients avoid surgery and rely on pain killers which are harmful for kidneys. However surgery is not needed for every case. He said.

U.S. nuke lab shut down by wildfire

Mexico, July 01: Despite strong, erratic winds, fire-fighters are confident they can keep a wildfire from reaching a mountain community in northern New Mexico that is home to America’s premier nuclear weapons laboratory.

The lab has been shut down since Monday, when all of the town of Los Alamos and some of its surrounding areas, 12,000 people in all, were evacuated.

Lines on the southern and western edges of Los Alamos National Laboratory are holding. But fire officials said Thursday that flames have reached sacred Native American sites to the north.

Sarabjit’s Sister Meets Him in Lahore Jail Again

Jalandher, July 01: The sister of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national on death row in Pakistan, has met him for the second time in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, according to his daughter.

Dalbir Kaur met Singh in the Jail yesterday and the two exchanged presents. An emotional Singh sent wishes for his daughter’s upcoming birthday.

“He has also sent greeting cards for me and my sister,” Singh’s daughter Swapandeep said.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy attacked

Paris, July 01: A man in a crowd today grabbed French President Nicolas Sarkozy by the shoulder and nearly knocked him to the ground before being tackled by security officers and detained.

The unusually aggressive incident occurred as the President shook hands with a crowd in the town of Brax in southwest France.

The assailant was not armed, according to the national police service. An official with the service said the 32-year-old Frenchman lives in the Lot-et-Garonne region and works in the theater business.
