Government’s Industrial Policy skewed in favour of Jagan: TDP

Hyderabad, July 01: The Telugu Desam Party on Thursday alleged that the state government’s Industrial Policy was skewed in favour of YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy to the extent that other entrepreneurs were preferring to establish their units in other states.

TDP state general secretary Varla Ramaiah told media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan that the “state government’s Industrial Policy is not encouraging entrepreneurs to establish their units in the state, since it is targeting at encouraging Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s businesses.”

Chased by kin, lovers come under vehicle

Hyderabad, July 1: A youngster died and his lover suffered injuries after they allegedly tried to end their lives by throwing themselves before a speeding vehicle near Shamirpet on Wednesday night. They took the extreme step while being chased by their parents, who were against their affair.
The duo, Naresh (18), a degree student and Anita Jyoti (14), a class IX student, were neighbours in Shivarampally.
On knowing about the affair, their parents objected to it as they belonged to different communities.

Hema Malini demands ban on Jallikattu

New Delhi, July 01: Actress-turned-politician Hema Malini today joined animal lovers in demanding a ban on ”jallikattu”, a bull-taming sport played in Tamil Nadu during Pongal celebrations, saying it violates the spirit of the law against torturing animals.

The Rajya Sabha MP wrote to Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh in this regard and urged him to make a “hugely positive impact for bulls by taking steps” to put an end to the sport.

New DGP targets regionalism

Hyderabad, July 1: The new director-general of police V Dinesh Reddy said regionalism was becoming a problem in the state, joining other ‘isms’ like extremism, communalism and factionism.
Addressing a press conference after taking charge, Reddy said, ‘’Regionalism is a problem but we will tackle the issue. We will cross the bridge when it comes.’’ Describing policing as a noble profession second only to medicine, the new state police chief said he would provide a definite direction to his force.

Kolkata children’s death: Doctors keeping close watch

Kolkata, July 01: Doctors were on Friday keeping a close watch on the condition of children at a premier state-run hospital where 18 babies died in the last two days triggering large-scale protests and demonstrations.

“We are keeping a tab on the situation. Generally, one to four babies die at the hospital regularly as many of them are brought in very serious condition,” hospital sources said.

“There has been no death since last night”, they said.

Andhra: Dinesh leapfrogs seniors to be DGP

Hydearabad, July 1: Overlooking five senior IPS officers, the state government on Thursday appointed V Dinesh Reddy as the next directorgeneral of police. The new appointee took over from his 1977 batchmate K Aravinda Rao, who retired on Thursday.
Dinesh Reddy, previously director-general of Vigilance & Enforcement, will be in service till Sept. 30, 2013.
He is an alumnus of Hyderabad Public School, the same school where chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy studied.

CWG scam: Sudhanshu Mittal questioned by CBI again

New Delhi, July 01: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday questioned BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal in connection with the commonwealth Games scam.

This was the second time that Mittal was questioned by the premier investigating agency in last three days. Mittal was put through rigorous interrogation for close to nine hours today, reports claimed.

Mittal is under the scanner in connection with the alleged irregularities in overlays supplies for the Commonwealth Games held in Delhi last year.

Washington, July 01: The US Attorney General’s latest decree for a criminal investigation into the death in detention of only two CIA captives has spared the US spy agency from further torture and abuse probes.

The US Justice Department announced on Thursday Attorney General Eric Holder’s order for a probe into the deaths of two detainees interrogated by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), which effectively terminates any future investigations into the agency’s other state-sponsored torture deaths and abuses.

One dies in fresh Bahraini clashes

Bahraini, July 01: As anti-regime demonstrations continue in Bahrain, one protestor has died of injuries on his head sustained by a stun-bomb thrown by the regime’s security forces.

Thousands of protesters marched in streets across the country on Friday, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Protesters renewed their call for an end to the Al Khalifa regime. They also demanded the release of all detained protesters, activists and opposition leaders.

Terrorists hiring jobless at Rs.40,000 a month: Pakistani lawmaker

Islamabad, July 01: Terrorist outfits in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province are recruiting jobless youth by paying them up to Rs.40,000 a month, a Pakistani lawmaker has said.

“Terrorists are luring these youth in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the Tribal Areas with ‘salaries’ of Rs.40,000 a month,” said Senator Zahid Ali Khan of the Awami National Party (ANP), according to a report in the Urdu daily Jang Friday.

Khan, the chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Health, made the statement at a meeting of the panel Thursday.

300 bits of plastic found inside dead turtle

London, July 01: A giant sea turtle starved to death as its gut was choked with over 300 bits of plastic, it was reported here

Experts were horrified to find 317 pieces of rubbish, including bags, tape, lids and fishing line, reported the Sun.

The turtle was found dead on a beach in Australia.

“It just shows how much plastic there is out there in the ocean. The turtle’s digestive system just shut down,” marine biologist Rochelle Ferris was quoted as saying.

Sea turtle populations are increasingly in danger from pollution, and illegal fishing.

‘Iran to seal eastern borders in three years’

Tehran, July 01: Iran’s Police Chief Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam has underlined Tehran’s resolve to tighten control over the country’s borders, and said the Iranian authorities will block the country’s eastern borders completely within the next three years.
