Hyderabad, October 31: Even as the Congress leadership dismissed the resignation of Women and Child Welfare Minister K Surekha as a decision taken due to personal reasons, the move by her appears to have breathed some life into the dying movement to make YS Jagan Mohan Reddy chief minister.

Governor ND Tiwari, who received the resignation letter from Surekha last night, forwarded it to Chief Minister K Rosaiah today who in turn sent it back to the governor requesting him to accept it. Accordingly, Tiwari accepted her resignation.

Hyderabad, October 31: Eyeing mayor post, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu today tried to woo the settlers from Andhra, Rayalaseema and other states in view of the coming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls.

“TDP created lakhs of jobs in Hyderabad. As a result settlers from Andhra, Rayalaseema and other states, including Gujarat are living in the city,’’ Naidu said while sounding the poll bugle at the party office.

“TDP will protect the interests of all the settlers,’’ Naidu said in a bid to strike chord with settlers, who are in large numbers.

Vijayawada,October 31: The role of the family members of deceased TDP leader Aluri Butchaiah Chowdary in the Congress leader Ginjupalli Veeraiah Chowdary’s
murder has come to light, giving a new twist to the case.

According to sources, police have seized records pertaining to the bank transactions of the main accused in Veeraiah’s murder, Chinta Venkateswara Rao. Apparently, Butchaiah’s family members deposited Rs 9.5 lakh in the bank account of Venkateswara Rao a few days before the murder of Veeraiah.

Hyderabad, October 31: GE volunteers has been working for societal benefit since a long time. Working for infrastructure reconstruction for the flood-affected, GE Volunteers has also provided various basic amenities like blankets and other requirements. “All the GE employees are by default a part of GE Volunteers and we try and make sure that we actually work with people and don’t just give money,” said Sanjeev Jain, India leader of GE Volunteers.

Hyderabad, October 31: A BSc graduate, who worked as an architect in Guntur, posed as an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer and cheated several persons under the pretext of sanctioning them government projects and works.

The 33-year-old graduate, K Venkata Ratna Reddy alias Ratna Reddy alias K V R Reddy, is a native of Guntur district. After his degree, he took up the job of a building elevation designer. Then Ratna Reddy met with an accident and the doctors asked him to stay away from hard physical work.

Vizianagaram,October 31: Police sounded an alert in the district, especially in the fort town, following information that deputy commander and action team member of Srikakulam-Koraput joint divisional committee of the CPI (Maoist) Chedda Bhushanam alias doctor alias Katro alias Nagaraju was in the town with a motive to attack his targets.

Vijayawada, October 30: South Central Railway would introduce a new train between Vijayawada and Guntur from November 1.

The train will depart Vijayawada every day at 1230 hrs and arrive at Guntur at 1330 hrs. It will depart Guntur at 1400 hrs and reach Vijayawada at 1500 hours, a release by South Central Railway said today.

It will halt at Krishna Canal, Mangalagiri, Namburu and Pedakakani, it said.

The railway authorities also informed that the inter city express between Guntur and Secunderabad will stop at Mangalagiri from November 1.

This follows the announcement of polls to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday.

Hyderabad,October 30: The first meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to verify all the audit paras relating to various works right from 1996.

PAC chairman Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that today’s was a preliminary meeting and the next meeting would be held on November 16 and 17.

The priorities of PAC would be decided at that meeting, he said.

He said the PAC would be activated and it would closely examine the money sanctioned under various heads to several works. The action taken reports (ATRs) would also be scrutinised by the PAC, Reddy said.

Hyderabad, October 30: With empty coffers staring it in its face, the State Government is left with no option but to seek Central aid to take up relief and rehabilitation activities in the flood-ravaged districts of the state.

The government is now pinning all its hopes on the report to be submitted by the Central team which visited the flood-affected areas and returned to Hyderabad today.

The inter-ministerial central team on floods, led by D Diptivilasa, today called on Chief Minister K Rosaiah and top officials.

Hyderabad, October 30: A division bench of the High Court today took on record the statement of Advocate-General DV Sitaram Murthy that the parameters laid down for identifying the creamy layer of Backward Classes through an order made by the government in 2006 was being implemented.

He made the statement on a writ petition filed by Prof Jayaprakash of the Osmania University challenging a recent government order keeping in abeyance the exercise of identifying the creamy layer among the Backward Classes in the State.

Hyderabad, October 30: A final year law student at the prestigious NALSAR University at Shamirpet is believed to have committed suicide, allegedly unhappy with his performance in the recent semester examinations.

Police said the youngster’s body was found outside the campus and the injuries on the body suggested that he jumped to his death, possibly from the overhead tank abutting the campus compound wall. The student, D Venkat Ram Reddy (22), was pursuing his final year BA LLB (Hons). His father, DP Reddy, is a serving IAS officer in Chandigarh and the family hail from Kadapa district.

Nalgonda, October 29: An Intermediate girl student who went missing on October 20 was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Vepala Singaram village of Huzurnagar mandal on Wednesday. According to police, Bhavani (16) was studying Intermediate at the Government Junior college, Huzurnagar.

Her body was recovered from an agriculture well on the outskirts of the village.

Huzurnagar SI Gangi Reddy registered a case and inquiring.

Hyderabad, October 29: Congress leader and Vijayawda MP Lagadapati Rajagopal today maintained there was “no controversy’’ over the Supreme Court judgment on Hyderabad as a “free zone’’, and criticised TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao for “politicising the issue for his own political benefit’’.

Speaking to reporters here today he said there was “no necessity’’ for the Government to file a review petition on the Supreme Court judgment.

Praising Chief Minister K Rosaiah, he said the latter was furthering the late Rajasekhara Reddy’s aims and objectives.

Hyderabad, October 29: Hundreds of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) activists including itspresident K Chandrasekhara Rao were taken into preventive custody as partof their `Jail Bharo’ programme demanding the Central Government to bring anamendment to the Constitution in the wake of Supreme Court order thatHyderabad was a free zone. All the leaders were released later on personal surety.

Police took the TRS activists into custody as they tried to proceed towards the Secretariat from Indira Park.

Hyderabad, October 29: The poll bugle has been sounded for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. Putting an end to a two month-long suspense, the State Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for GHMC polls to be held on November 23. Votes will be counted on November 26.

Announcing the details of 10K Run, in a press conference here on Wednesday, he said, the 10K Foundation of Hyderabad, which has been conducting the event for the past seven years successfully, will be organising the 10K Run and Half Marathon on November 22.

Hyderabad, October 29: Unhappy over the Congress party’s decision not to make Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy the Andhra Pradesh chief minister, state Women Development and Child Welfare Minister Konda Surekha resigned from the cabinet Thursday night.

Surekha submitted a six-page resignation letter to Governor N. D. Tiwari at Raj Bhavan.

“It was unfortunate that the high command has believed a few so-called seniors and denied the chief minister post to Jaganmohan Reddy, without showing any regard to the people’s wishes,” she said.

Nellore, October 28: The Drug Control Administration officials today collected samples of the medicines used by the doctors at the Global Eye Foundation of Bollineni Hospitals here for the botched cataract surgeries that rendered at least 15 persons either partially or totally blind besides endangering the lives of some of them. After taking the samples of seven medicines from the hospital, the team led by District Drugs Controller M Panduranga Rao left for Hyderabad for investigation of possible growth of bacteria in them.

Of the 30 patients who underwent surgery, 15 developed infection.

Peshawar, October 28:The army might be called in the city of Peshawar, where a suicide bombing Wednesday killed at least 87 people and injured over 200, a media report said quoting a minister.

“Army might be called in the city if the need arises”, said Bashir Ahmed Bilour, a senior minister of the North-West Frontier province as quoted in a report by The News.

He added that the government would bring the terrorists to “the justice they deserve” and denied that the incident took place due to the security lapses.

Mydukur, October 28: The government has ordered an inquiry into the incident in which two students of St. Joseph’s School in Mydukur in Kadapa district were punished for speaking Telugu in classroom and placards with the words “I never speak Telugu” were tied to their necks.

Secondary Education Minister D. Manikya Varaprasada Rao told reporters here on Tuesday that the inquiry would be conducted by Deputy Educational Officer of the district and Mandal Revenue Officer and action would be taken after getting the report.
