Nalsar student ends life

Hyderabad, October 30: A final year law student at the prestigious NALSAR University at Shamirpet is believed to have committed suicide, allegedly unhappy with his performance in the recent semester examinations.

Police said the youngster’s body was found outside the campus and the injuries on the body suggested that he jumped to his death, possibly from the overhead tank abutting the campus compound wall. The student, D Venkat Ram Reddy (22), was pursuing his final year BA LLB (Hons). His father, DP Reddy, is a serving IAS officer in Chandigarh and the family hail from Kadapa district.

With the semester examinations ending yesterday, the authorities declared holidays and many students left straightaway for their homes. Venkat Ram Reddy, along with a few others stayed back in the hostel.

“The youth seemed depressed after the examination.

When his friends asked him whether he was leaving for home, he replied in the negative,” Shamirpet police subinspector N Surender said. At night, Venkat Ram declined to accompany hostel mates to the mess when they went for dinner but stayed back in his room, saying he wanted to sleep. It was the last time they saw him, the SI said.

Around 8:30 today morning, an electrician who operates the pumphouse, climbed up to the overhead tank from where he spotted the student’s body outside the campus wall.

From the injuries on his knee joints and hands, police think he might have jumped to his death.
