Verdict is populist, say Muslim leaders

Bangalore, October 01: Describing the Ayodhya verdict a ”populist” arbitration and not a ruling based on the principles of justice, Bangalore’s Muslim leaders have said that the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court ”failed” to decide on the ownership of the land.

“At best, it’s a please-all judgement. It’s disappointing that the court didn’t decide on who owned the land. Although litigations before it were about the title suit of the said land, the court chose not to rake up the matter,” Maulana Iftikhar Ahmad Qasmi, President, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (JUH) told.

Woman wins China’s first cyber homosexual harassment case

Beijing, October 01: A 34-year-old woman has won 80,000 yuan ($12,000) in compensation after being harassed online by a lesbian, in what is being termed as China’s first case of cyber homosexual harassment.

Huang Xiaoyan, a resident of Nanjing, sued the other woman claiming three years of online lesbian torment, China Daily reported citing the Jinlin Evening News.

Huang met an internet user who went by the name of “Beautiful Mood” in 2007 through another internet friend who was reportedly Beautiful Mood’s husband.

India has never supported Pakistan cricket: Afridi

Karachi, October 01: The Pakistan Cricket Board should stop relying on India or any other Asian nation for support and become self reliant in solving its problems, says the national team’s ODI and Twenty20 skipper Shahid Afridi.

Asked about the continued absence of the Pakistani national Twenty20 champions from the lucrative Champions League, the second edition of which concluded last week in Johannesburg, Afridi said India has never been supportive of Pakistan cricket.

Hostage crisis: abducted policemen freed

Chhattisgarh, October 01: The 12-day-long hostage drama ends with the Naxals releasing four policemen whom they’d taken hostage. They were handed over to local mediapersons on Wednesday night inside the Bijapur forests and taken to the Dantewada police station.

“All four cops have been freed and handed over to local mediapersons who had been mediating for their release”, Dantewada district’s Senior Superintendent of Police S.R.P. Kalluri said.

Ayodhya case: Date wrong by century in judge’s verdict

Lucknow, October 01: It is interesting that a high court that unambiguously asserts the authenticity of a birth which could well be several millennia old is careless enough to get the date of a relatively recent event of Indian history wrong by a 100 years.

On page seven of Justice S.U. Khan’s judgment posted on the Allahabad High Court’s website, he writes: “The railing/grill was placed either in 1956 when Awadh was annexed by the Britishers or immediately after 1957 war of independence (called mutiny by Britishers).”

Three IPS officers promoted to the rank of ADGP

Hyderabad, October 01 (Siasat News): Three IPS officers of 1985 batch were promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police by the government yesterday.

M.Malakondaiah currently the Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau, has been promoted to the rank of Additional DGP and shifted to the post of Chairman, Police Recruitment Board. Rajvant Pal Singh and Ish Kumar, two other IPS officers of the 1985 batch, have also been promoted to the rank of Additional DGP.

Police tightens security in west zone

Hyderabad, October 01 (Siasat News): Immediately following the pronouncement of Babri Masjid title verdict police tightened security in the city’s west zone. Police had barricaded sensitive areas and directed people to remain indoors.

Mobile police were patrolling in the west zone areas of Tappachabotra, Karwan, Kulsoom pura, Habeeb Nagar, Asif Nagar as well as Mangal Hatt and Begum Bazaar. City police had been keeping vigilance all over the city through helicopters.

Wakf Board to move SC against Allahabad HC order

Lucknow, October 01: Sunni Wakf Board today said it will move the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court order dividing the disputed land in Ayodhya among three parties and said they were not going to surrender it.

“We will appeal against the division of disputed land among three parties,” Board lawyer Zafaryab Jilani told reporters here.

“HC’s formula of one-third land is not acceptable to the Waqf Board and it will appeal against it in the apex court,” he said.

He said they were not going to surrender the land.

No temple was demolished for mosque: Justice S.U. Khan

Lucknow, Octoberr 01: Justice S.U. Khan of the Allahabad High Court in his Ayodhya judgment Thursday said that no temple was demolished for building the Babri mosque and it was constructed over the ruins of temples.

The other two judges on the bench were of the view that the Babri mosque was constructed after demolition of a Hindu temple.

Aussie win toss, choose to bat in Mohali Test

Mohali, October 01: Australia Friday elected to bat first after captain Ricky Ponting won the toss for the first Test match against India at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here.

The Mohali Test match is the first of the two-Test match series between both sides.

India has included off spinner Harbhajan Singh in their squad, ending speculations about his fitness.

Ayodhya verdict needs to be studied in detail, says TDP

Hyderabad, September 30: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today said the verdict on the Ayodhya title suit needs to be studied in detail even as it appealed to all communities to maintain peace and harmony.

In a statement here tonight, party president N Chandrababu Naidu said that the long-awaited judgement was only one phase in the legal process.

“We need to study the judgement in detail. At the same time, I appeal to people to maintain peace and brotherhood,” the former chief minister added.

Verdict upholds right to build grand Ram temple: Advani

New Delhi, September 30: Welcoming the Ayodhya title suit judgement as one that paves the way for construction of a grand Ram temple at the disputed site, the BJP today said it opens a “new chapter for national integration” and “inter-community relations”.

“So far as the judgement upholds the right of the Hindus to construct a temple at the Garbh-Grih (sanctum sanctorum), it is a significant step forward towards the construction of a grand temple at the birth place of Lord Ram,” senior BJP leader L K Advani said after a meeting of the BJP Core Group.

Police draw flak from Hyderabad residents

Hyderabad, September 30: Police zealousness to maintain law and order in the communally sensitive city in wake of the Allahabad High Court judgement in the Ayodhya title suit today drew flak from certain quarters here.

Locals complained that police created a virtual curfew -like situation by forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters since 12 noon, a charge strongly denied by the Andhra DGP.

State-run Road Transport Corporation withdrew majority of its city services since afternoon, leaving people stranded at many places.

Glad Ayodhya issue has come to an end: Bal Thackeray

Mumbai, September 30: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray Thursday said he was glad the Ayodhya matter “ended” with the Allahabad High Court’s judgment that the spot where the Babri mosque in Ayodhya stood before it was razed by Hindu mobs in 1992 was indeed the birthplace of Ram.

“I am glad that the long pending Ramjanmabhoomi issue of Ayodhya came to an end with the court’s verdict,” he said in a brief statement here.

No comment on Ayodhya issue: Mamata

Kolkata, September 30: Trinamool Congress chief and union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday refused to comment on the Ayodhya verdict.

“I will not comment on this issue,” said Banerjee to mediapersons who assembled at her residence here in Kalighat.

However, a senior Trinamool leader, on condition of anonymity, said: “We have been asked not make any statement on this issue. The senior leaders will discuss the implications of the verdict. As the issue is very sensitive, we are told not to make any controversial comment.”

Ayodhya judgement new chapter for national unity: Advani

New Delhi, September 30: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani said Thursday that the Allahabad High Court judgment had upheld the right of Hindus to build a grand temple at the “place of birth of Lord Ram” and opens a new era for inter-community relations.

Reading out a statement after a meeting of senior BJP leaders at his residence, Advani said that the judgment was an important step in the construction of the Ram temple.

Hyderabad calm after Ayodhya verdict

Hyderabad, September 30: Hyderabad which is on alert in the view of Ayodhya verdict delivered by the Allahabad High Court today remained calm and no untoward incident was reported, police said.

Congress core group discusses Ayodhya verdict

New Delhi, September 30: Congress top brass, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party President Sonia Gandhi today held deliberations in the wake of the judgement of the Allahabad High Court on the Ayodhya title suits.

The meeting of the party Core Group took place soon after the Cabinet Commuter of Security met to deliberate on the court verdict and its political fallout in Uttar Pradesh and other states.

A section of the Congress is apprehensive that the verdict of the High Court would help BJP revive the Ram temple issue and take political advantage in the long run.

SC to hear Rathore’s plea in Ruchika case

New Delhi, September 30: The Supreme Court will hear on Friday the appeal filed by former Haryana Director General of Police S P S Rathore challenging his conviction and 18-month sentence in Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.

A Bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan will also take up the plea moved by Rathore for his release either on bail or on parole pending disposal of his appeal by the apex court.

HC Verdict: PM cautions against disruptive elements

New Delhi, September 30: Appealing to maintain peace and harmony in the wake of Ayodhya verdict, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today cautioned people against “disruptive elements” spreading rumours to create ill-will between communities.

“You should be particularly careful with regard to rumours that disruptive elements could propagate to create ill-will between communities,” Singh said after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security followed by a Congress Core Group meet headed by party chief Sonia Gandhi.

Ayodhya Verdict: Sunni Waqf Board Petition Dismissed

Lucknow, September 30: Allahabad High Court rules by majority that the disputed land in Ayodhya be divided into three parts to be distributed among the Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and the party for ‘Ram Lalla’, say lawyers.

Justice D V Sharma decrees the title suit in favour of Hindus, said lawyer K N Bhatt, who represented the party on behalf of ‘Ram Lalla’.

According to Ravi Shankar Prasad and K N Bhatt, status quo will be maintained at the disputed site in Ayodhya for three months.

Justice S U Khan rules that the disputed land belongs to both the communities, say lawyers.

Ayodhya land to be divided in three: Prasad

Lucknow, Sep 30: Two of the three judges had said that the disputed land in Ayodhya would be divided into three parts, one for the Hindus, one for the Muslims and one for the Nirmohi Akhara, one of the parties in the case, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and lawyer Ravi Shankar Prasad said here Thursday after the verdict.

Allahabad High Court website crashes

New Delhi, Sep 30: The Allahabad High Court website crashed Thursday after tens of thousands tried to access the portal ahead of the Ayodhya land row verdict.

The website had earlier reported that the judgement will be delivered at 4 p.m.. But for the last half hour, the site has been inaccessible.

On twitter, a user lamented: “In wake of Ayodhya verdict, Allahabad High Court website has badly crashed… And i have slim hopes (for) quick restoration either.. Hey Ram!”

The trio behind the Ayodhya ruling

Lucknow, Sep 30: The three judges – two Hindus and a Muslim – of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court who Thursday authored the long-awaited verdict on the Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi dispute:

Justice Dharam Veer Sharma: He is the one who gave a dissenting verdict and refrained from signing the Sep 17 order issued by the special bench turning down the plea for postponement of the final verdict slated for Sep 24. In his view, parties involved in the case should have been given the freedom to try and work out an amicable settlement.

Satyam healthy, losses down to Rs 125 crore

Hyderabad, September 30: It is likely to take another two years for Mahindra Satyam (MSat) to recover completely from the staggering accounting fraud perpetrated by B Ramalinga Raju that debilitated it last year.

The company’s first financial results since the scam broke in early 2009 showed that it cut its losses down to Rs 125 crore on a revenue of Rs 5,480 crore for the financial year ended 2009-10. That’s a lot better than the results for the financial year 2008-09 when it posted a net loss of Rs 8,177 crore on a revenue base of `8,813 crore.
