SC to hear Rathore’s plea in Ruchika case

New Delhi, September 30: The Supreme Court will hear on Friday the appeal filed by former Haryana Director General of Police S P S Rathore challenging his conviction and 18-month sentence in Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.

A Bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan will also take up the plea moved by Rathore for his release either on bail or on parole pending disposal of his appeal by the apex court.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had on September 1 dismissed Rathore’s appeal challenging his conviction and the sentence for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra two decades ago, saying his conduct as a top official was “shameful”.

Justice Jatinder Chauhan had also dismissed a petition by 68-year-old Rathore, who is undergoing the sentence in high-security Burail Jail, Chandigarh, since May 25, seeking release on probation.
