Vijayawada, August 29: The APSRTC is all set to launch 200 more compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in the city soon. The Vijayawada region of the state-owned public transport corporaotion, which launched the eco-friendly buses in the city a couple of years ago, currently has a fleet of 100 CNG buses in addition to about 350 diesel ones and has been receiving a good response in terms of profits, maintenance and public appreciation.
Hyderabad, August 29: Passengers of Chittoor-bound Venkatadri Express (No. 2797), including about 15 MLAs and MLCs, had a providential escape twice when the locomotive hauling the train delinked from the coaches at Balanagar and Jadcherla in Mahaboobnagar district on Friday night.
Hyderabad, August 29: The State Congress Committee is making elaborate arrangements for the Tirupati public meeting to be addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 6.
PCC president D Srinivas will leave for Tirupati to hold a meeting with party leaders from Chittoor, Nellore and Kadapa districts at 3 pm Saturday (August 29) to review arrangements for the proposed public meeting. District and city Congress Committee presidents, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other party functionaries concerned are invited to the meeting chaired by the PCC chief.
Sangareddy, August 29: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) secretary general and Medak MP M Vijayasanthi has expressed displeasure over the poor state of the government hospitals in various districts of the region. She sanctioned Rs 20 lakh to the Sangareddy Government Hospital during her visit to the hospital Friday. She was accompanied by Sangareddy MLA Toorpu Jayaprakash Reddy.
She inspected all the wards and expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the hospital.
Hyderabad, August 29: An acrimonious debate took place in the Assembly Friday on the circumstances that led to the arrest of Telugu Desam MLA TV Rama Rao with the Opposition and treasury beches heaping allegations on one another.
For major part of the day, the TDP stalled the proceedings, alleging that gross injustice had been done to their MLA.
The debate remained inconclusive and is likely to continue in the two days left before the Budget session would come to an end on September 1.
Warrangal, August 29: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao called upon the rural folk to become partners in the movement for separate State.
Rao, who made a night stay at Gurijala in Chennaraopet mandal on Thursday night as part of his Palle Nidra programme, completed his ablutions early Friday morning and interacted with the villagers in a meeting.
He toured the streets in the village and asked the people about their problems. He urged them to become partners in the Telangana movement.
Hyderabad August 28: Cherlapally village seeks HIV centre’s closure
: Depriving people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs) of medical aid and help, the gram panchayat of Cherlapally in Nalgonda has passed a resolution, seeking closure of the Community Care Centre (CCC) which has been opened in the village recently.
The move surprised officials of the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) as the villagers were unconvinced despite repeated assurances from the officials.

Hyderabad, August 28: A meeting of top anti-terrorism experts in the city have called for a sound inter-State coordination among various agencies, just like in the USA, to tackle terrorism in the country.
Experts on the subject, mostly from the USA, were in the city for a symposium on anti-terrorism security organised by Micro Sec. ATS, an agency which supplies high-end electronic devices for use by security agencies to tackle terror attacks.

Vijayawada, August 28: The Andhra Cricket Association, in a special general body meeting Thursday in Vijayawada, decided to slap life suspension on its former secretary, Chamundeswarinath.
The special general body meeting held Thursday specifically to decide upon the future of Chamundeswarinath, who has been facing, besides sexual allegations, allegations of financial fraud, was attended by all 39 members, including president Gokaraju Gangaraju.

: A heated debate took place on the arrest of TD P MLA TV Rama Rao with members of TDP and ruling Congress indulging in slanging match against each other. The Congress alleged that the TDP member was resorting to mudslinging against the Congress Government to cover up his `mistake’, while the MLA claimed that he was innocent.
He alleged that the Congress Government had conspired against him for his refusal to join the ruling party after elections.
Karimnagar, August 27: People in the district are now panicking not over the pandemic called swine flu but over the outbreak of viral fevers, especially dengue and malaria.
More than 15 positive cases of dengue have been detected across the district.
Hospitals in towns and interior areas are filled with patients suffering from these fevers.
Despite the measures taken by the health department, hundreds of people, mostly from the interior areas, are bedridden.
Outbreak of viral fevers during July and August in the last couple of years has become a regular feature in the district.
Tirumala, August 27: The differences between Tirumala Tiurupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board chairman DK Audikesavulu Naidu and Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) chairman Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, who is an ex-officio member of the TTD Board, is snowballing into a major controversy, with both of them levelling serious allegations against each other. As if this were not enough, TTD Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Seshadri, also known as Dollar Seshadri, broke down infront of media saying that his name has been unnecessarily dragged into the Dollar and jewellary scam.
Hyderabad, August 27: The Commission for Economically Backward Classes (CEBC), which was appointed by the Ministry of Social Justice, Government of India, would impress upon the Centre to implement fee reimbursement scheme for EBC students that was being implemented in AP in other states also. The Commission would submit its report to the Central Government within six months.
The commission was appointed in 2006 and the Central Government fixed the a deadline for submitting the report before March 2010.

Hyderabad, August 27: The murders of Dubai-based Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Engineer, K Laxmi Vara Prasad, and his family at RAK Royal Lodge were plotted and executed by his niece and her husband.
The motive: The accused wanted to avoid repayment of money running into several lakhs following huge investments by Prasad in a life insurance policy.

Hyderabad, August 26: A producer, who invested in the recent Telugu movie Target with Mumaith Khan as one of the lead actresses, went missing from his house at Bowenpally unable to bear the harassment by a film financier.
The film did not do well at the box office driving the producer into financial losses, police said.
Hyderabad, August 26: Differences arising out of financial disputes led to an attack on an auto financier at Erragadda on Tuesday.
The injured, 25-year-old Habeeb, is a resident of Rajendranagar and is into auto finance. He has disputes with two other financiers, Fazil and Shafi, police said. All the three hail from Gulbarga in Karnataka.
Fazil reportedly attacked Habeeb on a previous occasion in Gulbarga.
Hyderabad, August 26: The increasing number of indigenous swine flu cases in the city is causing worry to doctors and officials alike.
The city has reported 18 indigenous cases of swine flu in the past three days including nine fresh cases confirmed today.
Hyderabad, August 26: The Andhra Pradesh government will soon release 948 life convicts from various prisons across the state, official sources said.
The cabinet, which met here today, approved the release of prisoners based on the recommendation made by a high-level committee headed by Principal Secretary (Home) Ajay Misra, they said.
Though the Director General of Police and the Chief Secretary issued proceedings for release of 963 eligible life convicts for special remission, the committee headed by the Principal Secretary (Home) rejected 15 names in view of the past record.
Shimla, August 25: Himachal Pradesh will not go the Gujarat way and ban the book on Jinnah by expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singh.
There is no plan to ban Jaswant Singh’s controversial book on Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah in the state, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said here today.
“Thousands of books hit the stands everyday. … Why should the state government bother about those,” he told reporters.
Of the six BJP ruled states, including Himachal Pradesh, only Gujarat has banned the book so far.
Nalgonda, August 23: Information Technology Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy today said that he was receiving calls threatening him with dire consequences for the past couple of months. He said he had informed the matter to Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and DGP SSP Yadav about the calls. He was confident that the police would nab the culprits shortly.
Vishakapatnam, August 21: As swine flu sweeps the entire nation, three more fresh cases of the deadly infection have been reported from Visakhapatnam.
The city has earlier reported four cases but all of them had been treated and discharged. In several screening camps conducted over a period of two weeks, the authorities isolated 21 persons and sent their throat and nasal swabs to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), Delhi.
Hyderabad, August 21: The death of an Oriya youth in Hyderabad has added to the fears over spread of swine flu in Kendrapara district of Orissa, even as medical department officials in Hyderabad categorically denied any death due to swine flu.
Birendra Sah, of Kharidipatna village in Kendrapada district, who had been running a fast food shop in Hyderabad for eight years, died at a private hospital yesterday.
