Chamundi no-balled for life

Vijayawada, August 28: The Andhra Cricket Association, in a special general body meeting Thursday in Vijayawada, decided to slap life suspension on its former secretary, Chamundeswarinath.

The special general body meeting held Thursday specifically to decide upon the future of Chamundeswarinath, who has been facing, besides sexual allegations, allegations of financial fraud, was attended by all 39 members, including president Gokaraju Gangaraju.

In a statement, the general body said that as per BCCI bylaws Chamundeswarinath was given enough time to answer charges, but in the absence of any response whatsoever from the latter the general body had no recourse but to suspend him.

Later, speaking at a press meet, Gokaraju Gangaraju, the current president of the ACA said he himself would hold the post of ACA secretary till a new person was elected.

He also said the decision would be communicated to the BCCI, where Chamundi, in the capacity of ACA secretary holds various positions, which he would soon be stripped of.

Meanwhile, Chamundi aides Satish Babu, secretary of ACA (East Godavari), and Narayana Swamy vice-president of ACA, were served with show cause notices by the ACA general body.

The ACA has pooh-poohed allegations by the Chamundi camp that a scam to the tune of Rs 2.25 crore had happened in the construction of the cricket stadium in Vizag and invited “anybody interested’’ to visit the stadium and verify the facts.

Gangaraju said the ACA would henceforth work towards “restoring the pride’’ of the association and the development of women’s cricket in the State.
