Online Child Sex Abuse: US Mother In Court

Washington, June 16: US Mother In Court Enlarge photo Julie Carr was arrested on Friday after a tip-off from West Midlands Police about a video streamed online showing a woman performing sex acts on a child.

The 30-year-old from Mars Hill, Maine, has been charged with gross sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Her four children – believed to range from 18 months to five years old – were taken into protective custody.

Carr, who is being held in a jail on the Canadian border, did not enter a plea when she appeared in court on the video.

‘Depressed’ Delhi woman kills daughter

New Delhi, June 16: Sharda, 50, of Block G, Jehangirpuri (northwest Delhi) set herself ablaze and jumped off the balcony of her first-floor house after allegedly strangling her 15-year-old daughter Chelu to death with a dupatta around 9 a.m. on Monday.

Sharda, who was allegedly depressed, is fighting for survival at TB Hospital, Kingsway Camp, after sustaining 70% burns.

“Yesterday [Sunday] evening, she was ranting about committing suicide and killing her daughter, a neighbour said, adding, “But I didn’t think she would do it.”

3 Indian Americans die as family plane plunges into river

Washington, June 16: Three Indian Americans, including an 11-year-old boy, were killed when a small family-owned plane nosedived into the Mohawk river on Sunday afternoon.

Albany-based hotelier George Kolath, who hails from Kerala, was entertaining his son and a doctor-friend when the Piper Cherokee went down shortly after taking off from the Mohawk Valley Airport, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, Jim Peters.

The bodies of the boy, George Kolath Jr., and the doctor, whose name was not released by authorities, were found, Kolath’s brother-in-law, Anil Paulose said.

Mixed response to VHP bandh call in Surat

Ahmedabad, June 16: The “Surat Bandh” call given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in protest against the alleged gang rape of a minor school girl, received mixed reactions from the people on Monday. No untoward incident was reported from the art silk and diamond city.

Minister of State for Home Amit Shah, camping in the city for the last two days to keep a watch on the situation, said the bandh was a “flop,” but the VHP claimed that the call received “overwhelming support.”

Tandoori Aloo

Ingredients: Oven temp: 200C-400F

4 large potatoes – peeled and boiled till half cooked

For marinade
1 cup hung curd
1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp kasuri methi (fenugreek seeds)
1 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
chaat masala to garnish
a greased drip tray

Method: Mix the ingredients for the marinade.

Pierce the potatoes in 3-4 places and mix into the marinade and leave thus for half an hour or so.

Place the potatoes on the drip tray and bake for about 20 minutes in a pre heated oven or about 12 minutes in an OTG or till brown.

Serve hot.

Khasta Roti

Ingredients: 2 cups atta (whole-wheat flour)
4 tsp ghee
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
salt – to taste
ghee – to add while making the rotis

Method: Mix baking powder, cumin seeds, salt and four tsp ghee with the flour thoroughly. Add milk and knead to a soft dough.

Make balls of the dough and roll out like rotis and fry on a tawa, adding ghee, over a medium flame.

Serve it with butter.

Rich Chocolate Cake

Ingredients: Oven Temp: 300F/140C

2 cups maida
1 3/4 cup castor or powdered sugar
2/3 cup oil, butter or margarine
2/3 cup cocoa powder
1 cup water
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3 eggs
2×9 inch or 8 inch square cake tins

Method: Line the base of the tins with butter paper or grease the bases and dust either with maida or sugar till well coated.

Sift the flour, cocoa, baking soda and powder and transfer into a mixing bowl.

Add the salt, sugar, fat, water and vanilla.

Shahi Tukre

Ingredients: 8 bread slices
12 tbsp condensed milk
1 litre milk
1 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp nutmeg
30 gm each almonds, pistas, walnut, cashew nuts and raisins

Method: Trim the edges of the bread slices and cut them into four pieces. Then deep fry to golden color. Separately, fry all the nuts and pound coarsely.

Cook the milk and condensed milk, sugar, cardamom and nutmeg on low flame.

When the mixture thickens put the fried bread slices side by side in the pan.

Let it cook till the bread absorbs all the moisture. Serve cold garnished with nuts, raisins and silver foil.

Woman kills daughter, sets self on fire

New Delhi, June 15 : A 50-year-old woman strangled her teenage daughter to death and set herself ablaze in Jehangirpuri in north-west Delhi this morning, police said.

Sharda, a resident of Block G in Jehangirpuri, set herself on fire after killing her 15-year-old daughter and jumped off the first floor of the house at around 0900 hrs.

According to DCP(North-West) N S Bundela, Sharda suffered 70 per cent burns and was raced to hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.

Sharda’s husband was not home at the time of the incident.

Zardari seeks full membership of SCO

Moscow, Jun 15 : Ahead of his participation in the summit of the heads of state and government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari said today Islamabad counts on its full membership of the regional group.

Mr Zardari will attend the SCO summit opening in Yekaterinburg as an observer, along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a special envoy of Mongolian President as observer-members.
