Sonam Kapoor trips in over-excitement

Hong Kong, June 11: Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor’s bubbly nature took a toll on her when she saw a friend at the Hong Kong airport and tripped.

At the Hong Kong airport Sonam saw a friend and stepped forward without looking where she was going to wave at her — and tripped.

Sonam was with her sister Rhea Kapoor and father Anil Kapoor at the airport Wednesday. She was heading to Macau for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) weekend and awards starting Thursday.

Mumbai, June 10: After the fabulous Jab We Met in 2007, director Imtiaz Ali is back with his next venture, Love Aaj Kal. The film stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. This is also Saif’s first home production.

When the makers launched the film at a press meet at the PVR theatre in Parel, central Mumbai, all eyes were on the director and his stunning cast.

Lovers commit suicide

Bhatinda, June 10 : A young pair allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance near Lambi Bus Stand in this district last night, police said today.

The deceased were identified as Joga Singh (26) and Ranjit Kaur (24), who was already married.

The woman had eloped with her lover a week ago. However, both of them had later returned to their homes following persuasion by their families.

‘Slumdog’ makers provide Azhar with a house

Mumbai, June 10: The child star of multiple Oscar winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, has been provided a new house by the ‘Jai Ho’ trust, formed by the makers of the film.
“The 250 sq ft flat situated in Santa Cruz west will be in the custody of the trust and will be transferred to Azharuddin when he turns 18,” Nirja Matoo of the Jai Ho trust .

Azhar’s family will shift in the new house in a day or two, she said adding that the trust is still hunting for a house for the other child star Rubina Ali.

Michael Jackson makes strange requests for child choir

London, June 10: Michael Jackson, who is all set to make his comeback Saturday, is making strange requests for a child choir for his concerts.

According to mirror.co.uk, Jackson wants every child to know sign language and wants “exactly equal” numbers of black, white, mixed-race and Asian child singers for his concerts.

The weird request was sent to casting agents on behalf of promoters AEG Live, who are organising his 50 concerts at O2 Arena here.

The children are also supposed to range from 5 to 13.

Man, son beaten to death by goons

Ahmedabad, June 10: In a shocking incident, a man and his son were killed after they were attacked by four people who were given the contract by a woman at Pandesara in the early hours of Monday morning.

Rambabu Paswan, 40, who had serious injuries to his head died on Monday, while son, Kunal, 15, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
According to sources, Paswan, a resident of Akash Bhumi complex in Pandesara was in a relationship with Rekha alias Asha who is said to be his second wife.

‘Jealous US woman cuts child from friend’s womb’

Washington, June 10: A once-pregnant 21-year-old Oregon woman found dead in a crawl space of a home had been cut open and her baby taken from her womb, investigators said on Monday. It couldn’t be determined if the infant son of Heather Snively died before or after he was removed, police said.

A 27-year-old woman, Korena Roberts, has been charged with murder in Snively’s death. She appeared in court but did not enter a plea. A call to the emergency dispatcher brought emergency workers to Roberts’ house. Workers found blood on the floor and Roberts’ boyfriend trying to revive the infant.

S Arabia’s first female minister not allowed to appear on TV

Riyadh, June 10: Saudi Arabia’s first woman cabinet minister cannot appear on television without permission, a newspaper quoted her as saying on Tuesday.

Noura al-Faiz’s appointment in February as deputy minister for women’s education was hailed as a big step for the integration of women in conservative Saudi Arabia where a puritanical form of Islam bans women from driving, voting and mixing with unrelated men.

Mamata seeks Art 355 to check CPM Bengal terror

New Delhi, June 10: Even as Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee takes up the issue of post-poll political violence in the state and partisan relief distribution with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi, her senior leaders and MLAs met Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and demanded promulgation of Article 355 of the Indian Constitution to stop state-sponsored terrorism.

Satyam profits rise 13 times in a month

Mumbai, June 10: Fraud-hit Satyam Computer Services Ltd, now controlled by Tech Mahindra Ltd, on Tuesday declared profits between October 2008 and February 2009.

Satyam said its profit rose 13-fold between January (Rs 4 crore) and February (Rs 52 crore). The company’s consolidated net profit was lower at Rs 160 crore. The firm said it made a net profit of Rs 181 crore in the quarter ended December 31, 2008.

On the BSE, shares of Tech Mahindra rose 25.4 per cent to Rs 744.20 per share, while Satyam rose 9.9 per cent to Rs 66.85.
