Mumbai, June 09: Looks like Bipasha Basu has managed to charm her director Sudipto Chattopadhyaya, whose bold film Pankh (starring Bips and Maradona Rebello) about a little boy in the film industry who masquerades as a girl to become a child star but later faces an identity crisis and eventually turns into a drug abuser.
Sudipto, we have learnt, is teaming up with the sassy Bong beauty yet again for another controversial film where she is slated to play a prostitute living in Kolkata’s largest red light area called Sonagachi. A source close to the film, which has been titled Sonagachi, says, “Sudipto is mighty impressed by Bips and has already offered her another role which is quite bold. She will play a prostitute who nurses a child, who is a victim of pedophilia, so that the child can come out of the trauma and grow up to live a healthy life. Bips has verbally agreed to do the project. The paperwork only remains.”
When contacted, Sudipto told After Hrs, “It is true that the film will have a big star playing the role of a woman who will help a child who has been emotionally and physically traumatised by a pedophile. Again, the film is about Sonagachi and the life prostitutes of that place have. Their exploitation, victimisation and how beautiful relationships are found there will also be probed.”
And if you thought that the surprise ended with Bips playing a challenging role – hold your horses. Sudipto revealed to us that real-life prostitutes from the area will play themselves in the movie. “We have already shot scenes from Durga Puja which will be used and we also have prostitutes, who are living in Sonagachi, playing themselves in my movie.”
