Hyderabad, June 05: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the governing body of the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala, is planning to ask devotees not to wear “indecent” dress while on pilgrimage to the hill shrine.

“We are going to tell our staff not to allow people with indecent dress. That means they should not allow those wearing bermudas, shorts or T-shirts. They can allow those wearing shirt and pant,” TTD Executive Officer I Y R Krishna Rao said.

The decision to discourage “indecent” attire was taken following complaints.

Hyderabad, June 05: The Andhra Pradesh government will seek financial assistance of Rs 1357.42 crore from National Calamity Contingency Fund and Calamity Relief Fund for reconstruction work in the districts hit by the cyclone Laila.

The state Cabinet, which met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K Rosaiah, decided to seek assistance of Rs 51.74 crore towards rescue and relief operations, Rs 399.52 crore for temporary restoration work and Rs 906.16 crore for permanent restoration.

Warangal, June 05: By nominating Gundu Sudharani, a BC leader, to the Rajyasabha, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu shocked two of his party leaders Kadiyam Srihari and Errabelli Dayakar Rao.

The two groups have been active in the district politics for the last 15 years. As they were given power to finalise candidates in the elections, no wonder district politics revolved around them.

Rajahmundry (AP), June 05: 13 suspected Maoist sympathisers were yesterday arrested from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

The 13 were allegedly passing on secret information to Maoists. All of them belong to Orissa, police said.

Hyderabad, June 04: Snubbed by the high command, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy continued hectic confabulations with his supporters on the way ahead for him.

The immediate question before him is whether he should obey Delhi and call off the Odarpu Yatra in north coastal Andhra from next week or go ahead with it and face consequences. The other option is to make another visit to Delhi and try to get clearance for his proposed tour.

The number of leaders turned up to receive him swelled like anything this time compared to his previous visits to the temple town. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, former legislatures and local leaders queued up to present bouquets to Rosaiah and later followed him in his official programmes.

New Delhi, June 02: Congress on Wednesday said the issue of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu’ yatra and the party’s stand on it was a “domestic affair” which the party was capable of handling.

Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, who is also the party in charge of Andhra Pradesh, today refused to get drawn into the controversy over Jagan’s claim yesterday that he had given him a go ahead to continue with his yatra.

“I don’t want comment anymore on Jagan….” Moily told reporters here.

Hyderabad, June 02: A new realignment of political forces in Andhra Pradesh was formalised on Tuesday. The Praja Rajyam Party ( PRP), founded by matinee idol Chiranjeevi, officially announced it will be Congress’ ally from now on.

In a meeting held at Chiru’s residence, the PRP executive committee endorsed the party president’s decision to forge an alliance with the Congress ahead of the Rajya Sabha ( RS) elections and also in future.

Hyderabad, June 02: Kadapa MP Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday claimed the Congress high command had given him the go- ahead to resume his controversial Odarpu yatra ( consolation tour) in parts of Andhra Pradesh, barring Telangana.

He told the media after a 20- minute meeting with AICC in- charge of the state Veerappa Moily in New Delhi on Tuesday that he would resume the tour from Srikakulam in north coastal Andhra from June 8. He said he had clarified all doubts about his tour.

Hyderabad, June 01: Days after Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) President and Actor Chiranjeevi met AICC President Sonia Gandhi, the PRP today decided to extend support to the Congress in Rajya Sabha Elections from Andhra Pradesh slated later this month.

The PRP’s top decision-making body met here to consider the request made by Ms Gandhi to support Congress and decided its entire group would support the Congress candidate.

The PRP also took note of the ‘many commonalities’ with the Congress like secularism based on which the party will support the Congress in the coming RS Elections.

Hyderabad, June 01: An HIV- positive woman was forced to give birth to her baby by the roadside after a government- run hospital in Andhra Pradesh allegedly refused her admission.

The shocking incident took place on Sunday evening in Suryapet town of Nalgonda district, about 170 km from Hyderabad.

According to reports, some women in the town helped deliver the baby after the pregnant woman collapsed by the roadside.

Alivelu, the wife of a daily wage labourer from Kesaram village in Nalgonda, reached the Government Area Hospital in Suryapet.

New Delhi, May 31: Striking a defiant note, Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy Monday announced that he would go ahead with his tour of Telangana region and said he was ready to quit from Lok Sabha if anyone proved that he had even made a single political statement during his tour of the region.

Jaganmohan, who arrived in the capital last night to meet the Congress High Command, said no one can stop him from going ahead with the yatra to console the families of those who either died or allegedly committed suicide after hearing the news of the death of his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Hyderabad, May 30: (Siasat News) Muslim girls student were made to remove their Burqa and boys students were also forced to unwear their skull cap (Tupi), before they were allowed to attend the EAMCET at Vijaya Rural Engineering College, Nizamabad.

The S.I.O and some other muslim leaders organized a Dharna (Sit in) protest against the management of the college. As usual police lathi charged the peacefull protesters but the principal of the college rose to the occasion and his intervention pacified the agitating students.

Hyderabad, May 31: Anguished over the higher authorities denying him promotion, a sub-inspector of police in Karimnagar district committed suicide by shooting himself.

The incident occurred late on Saturday night when Ramadugu SI V Pulla Rao, 52, shot himself with his service revolver at his residence in the mandal headquarters of Choppadandi assembly constituency. “He was depressed as his batchmates were being promoted. The inordinate delay in getting promotion might have spurred him to kill himself,” sources said.

Hyderabad, May 31: Several Congress leaders in Andhra Pradesh want late chief minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy’s son and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy dropped from the party for defying the high command and going ahead with his consolation tour in the Telangana region.

His tour triggered widespread violence in the volatile region. Given the situation, as many as nine out of the 11 Congress MPs from Telangana, most of whom were hitherto staunch supporters of Jagan, have allegedly asked the high command to expel him.

Hyderabad, May 30: Against the backdrop of the Congress high command sending out a strong message to YS Jaganmohan Reddy over his ‘Odarpu yatra’, ministers in the K Rosaiah cabinet in Andhra Pradesh have asserted their support to the chief minister.

The ministers defended the government’s handling of the situation when Jagan undertook the yatra in defiance of
the high command’s directive not to go ahead on May 28.

Hyderabad, May 30: Five members of a family from Coimbatore, including two women, were killed and three others injured when the car carrying them dashed against a stationary vehicle after overturning in Chittoor district, police said. The incident occurred at Mamadugu village at midnight when the family was on its way back to Coimbatore, they said.

Hyderabad, May 30: Senior BJP leader and former union minister Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday alleged that the ruling Congress government was solely responsibile for the Mahabubabad violent incicent on Friday in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Mr. Dattatreya said, “Had the Rosaiah government taken preventive action to stop the Kadapa MP Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s ‘odarpu Yatra,’ the violence incident would not have happened.

Hyderabad, May 30: Accusing the ruling Congress of failing to maintain law and order, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said “political mafia, mining mafia and land mafia” were ruling the roost in Andhra Pradesh.

“There is no security for people in the state because of the political mafia while the mining mafia has been plundering precious national wealth,” he told the valedictory session of the TDP’s three-day meet at Gandipet near here.

Naidu alleged that the police was being misused by the ruling party to serve its vested political interests.

Hyderabad, May 29: As Kadapa MP set off for this town from Hyderabad on Friday morning to kickstart his Odarpu yatra, around 2000 strong mob gathered at the railway station here to block his entry into the town.

The 100 cops posted here were inadequate to control the mob as a little after 11 am, they began pelting stones at pro-Jagan supporters, including Parkal MLA Konda Surekha.

Tirupati, May 28: A day after the collapse of the Rajagopuram of the revered Shiva temple at Srikalahasti, experts mulled whether it was human negligence that brought it down or was it natural causes such as wear and tear, exposure to the elements and lightning strikes?

The Srikalahasti temples are several centuries old. They were initially constructed by Chola kings and added to by the Telugu Chodas and Yadava Rayas. It is said that even the Kakatiyas contributed to the magnificent temple complex and all the Vijayanagara kings added to its grandeur.

Hyderabad, May 28: Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Thursday said the Rajagopuram of the famous Srikalahasti temple, which collapsed last night, would be reconstructed in consultation with the Archaeological Survey of India.

Endowments Commissioner J S V Prasad went a step further and set a deadline for the mahakumbabhishekam for the finished structure: Dec. 2012.

Warangal, May 28: With the stage set for the launch of Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’ from Mahabubabad in Warangal district, a warlike situation prevailed in the town with the Telangana Joint Action Committees (JACs) all geared up to obstruct the tour. Adding to police jitters, a bomb scare involving a bag of potatoes placed at the Mahabubabad bus stand further jangled their nerves.
