YSR Cabinet likely before his pilgrimage to Israel

New Delhi,May 21: chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy is expected to constitute his Cabinet either on May 22 or 24, before he leaves for Israel on a pilgrimage.

According to party sources, the Chief Minister along with his family members is to go on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land from May 25 to 31. Prior to his visit, he is likely to constitute the Cabinet.

Rajasekhara Reddy is also planning to visit Kadapa to attend death anniversary of his father Raja Reddy on May 23.

Dubai, May 20: Israel has officially wiped Palestine off the map, beating Iran, whose president reportedly said he would wipe the Jewish state “off the map,” to the punch.

A Ministry of Tourism advertisement for Israel posted is several London Underground, or subway stations, features a map of Israel that includes all the occupied Palestinian territories, infuriating campaign groups who say Israel has done to Palestine what Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad threatened to do to the Jewish state.

Lisa Ray in Hello’s ’50 Most beautiful’ list

Toronto, May 20: Lisa Ray, the Indian origin actress who catapulted to international recognition through Deepa Mehta’s Water has been featured in the Canadian edition of Hello magazine as one of the ’50 Most Beautiful People’ of the country.

The 37-year-old supermodel-turned-actress features along with Ruby Dhalla, a Canadian politician, in the list which features only two Indians, reported Hello online.

While reacting to her inclusion in the list, Lisa Ray said, “I guess I need to thank my parents for this. I am really proud to feature along with such prestigious people.”

Father, relatives kill son for refusing to marry again

Patna, May 20 : A man in a village in Bihar’s Bhojpur district declined to carry out his father’s order to desert his wife and marry another woman. The enraged father and other relatives beat the son to death, police said Wednesday.

Dharmendra Choudhary, in his late 20s, was killed Tuesday, allegedly by his father and other family members in Saropur village of Bhojpur district, 60 km from state capital Patna.

“Dharmendra was beaten to death by his father and others after he refused to marry again,” a police officer said.

Girls outshine boys in CISCE Class-X, Class-XII exams

New Delhi,May 20: Girls outshone boys in the Class X and Class XII examinations conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) this year.

While 1,08,217 students, including 60,812 boys and 47,405 girls, had appeared in Class X (ICSE), about 52,552 students, including 29,207 boys and 23,345 girls, had written the Class XII (ISC) exam, conducted in March this year.

The results announced by CISCE showed that 98.05 per cent students got through the ICSE while 97.08 per cent students could pass the ISC.

13-year-old in city alleges rape by father

Jaipur,May 20: In a case of child abuse case that shocked the entire city, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father in her house at Rajendra Prasad Nagar under Shyam Nagar police station area.

The child was allegedly being abused by her father for the last one month and the crime came to light when an NGO activist reported the matter to the Shyam Nagar police on Tuesday.

Following this, the father was arrested and medical examination of the child was conducted. The police said the accused worked as a gardener and his wife worked as a domestic help.

One killed in row over love affair

New Delhi,May 20: A clash between two families over an alleged love affair between their children left one person dead and two others injured in Subhash Vihar area of Bhajanpur in Northeast district on Monday evening.

According to the police, the incident occurred at 8pm when members of the girl’s family landed up at a hotel run by the boy’s family and assaulted his relatives. One of the boy’s uncles were killed, and his father and another uncle were injured in the attack.

School to pass 200 kids after protest

Mumbai,May 20: Parents of students enrolled in Byculla’s Antonio De Souza High School were shocked when some 300-odd children in the secondary section were failed in the past school year.

Both local corporator Mangesh Bansod as well as MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar took up the matter on behalf of the parents and visited the school authorities.

On Monday, at a meeting with parents, the school announced that it would give 13 grace marks each to all the children who had failed in Std V to IX, with the result that around 200-odd students will now pass.

YSR Reddy to be sworn in as Andhra Pradesh CM today

Hyderabad, May 20: Congress leader and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is all set to sworn-in as the chief minister for the second consecutive term on Wednesday.

Ahead of government formation, Reddy called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the national capital on Sunday.

During the meet, Dr. Reddy apprised them of the party’s performance and discussed about his likely Cabinet.

Mumbai, May 19: Freida Pinto instructs her lawyers to sue blogs using pics from a 2006 calendar shoot…. Websites and blogs are picking up pictures from an old calendar shoot she did in 2006.

The scans of her calendar made an appearance on the net a few weeks back. They were first uploaded on a US-based celebrity blog and were later picked up by many popular blogs and sites.

After seeing the old pics, the Slumdog Millionaire actress has now asked her lawyers to take legal action against any site making these pictures more popular.

Indian Polls: Pizza yummier than roti; papad crumbles

Mumbai, May 19: In the lull between polling and counting, punters rushed to place bets worth Rs 20,000 crore on what was better – ‘pizza’ or ‘roti’.

There was also ‘papad’ on offer, but it had few takers. Pizza, roti and papad were among the code words bookies used while taking bets so as to avoid the police net.

Pizza, code word for Congress, was the hot favourite among punters, while roti (BJP) saw lesser volumes, a bookie said here. BJP’s PM hopeful L K Advani was code-named papad.

The betting volume topped Rs 20,000 crore, up from Rs 11,000 crore in the 2004 polls.

Hong Kong teacher convicted of having sex with pupil 280 times

Hong Kong, May 19 : A Hong Kong primary school teacher was Tuesday facing a jail term after being convicted of having sex with a girl pupil 280 times, starting when she was 12 years old.

Chu Chi-wah, 39, was found guilty of 11 counts of having sex with a minor over a two-year period 2004-06, at a court hearing Monday. He will be sentenced June 8.

The girl, now aged 17, told police she had sex with Chu 10 times a month on average and slept with him around 280 times over the course of their relationship.

Haj becomes costlier

New Delhi,May 19: The cost of performing Haj has gone up by a considerable margin this year.

The lowest financial category allowed for Haj is of Rs 1 lakh this year. Last year, the budget of the same category was Rs 72,000. Facilities for the general class come in the price range of Rs 1.20 lakh and in the deluxe category at the cost of Rs 1.50 lakh.

This huge rise in cost has put lot of hopefuls for the Haj in a spot.

Women’s representation in Lok Sabha from Delhi dismal

New Delhi,May 18: Except in 1996 and 1998, Delhi has never sent more than one woman and sometimes none to the Lok Sabha to represent the capital.

Of the 17 women contestants in the fray in the recently held elections, Congress candidate Krishna Tirath is a lone woman who has been elected to the 15th Lok Sabha to raise the voice of strong 1.1 crore electorate, including over 49 lakh woman voters, in Parliament.

The sitting MP from erstwhile Karol Bagh Lok Sabha seat has defeated her nearest rival Meera Kanwaria of the BJP in the reserved constituency, Northwest Delhi.
