New Delhi,May 20: A clash between two families over an alleged love affair between their children left one person dead and two others injured in Subhash Vihar area of Bhajanpur in Northeast district on Monday evening.
According to the police, the incident occurred at 8pm when members of the girl’s family landed up at a hotel run by the boy’s family and assaulted his relatives. One of the boy’s uncles were killed, and his father and another uncle were injured in the attack.
Hours later, the police arrested the girl’s grandfather Swaraj alias Shivraj (60) and his two sons, Anil (35) and Vinod (40).
Police said when Shivraj came to know of his granddaughter’s affair with one Atul Rana, he first tried to frame Atul in a fake abduction case. When that failed, he went to Atul’s uncle, Rajesh Rana’s sweet shop to threaten him. This led to an altercation.
Police said Shivraj and his sons as well as some other people beat up Atul’s family members with sticks and even fired from a licensed weapon. Atul’s relative Rajesh Thakur died in the incident and Rajesh Rana and Atul’s father Anil were injured.
