Haj becomes costlier

New Delhi,May 19: The cost of performing Haj has gone up by a considerable margin this year.

The lowest financial category allowed for Haj is of Rs 1 lakh this year. Last year, the budget of the same category was Rs 72,000. Facilities for the general class come in the price range of Rs 1.20 lakh and in the deluxe category at the cost of Rs 1.50 lakh.

This huge rise in cost has put lot of hopefuls for the Haj in a spot.

Talking to , Md Mustafa Khan, nominated member of National Minority Educational Commission said, “Indeed, cost is high this year due to recession. But we can’t do much as it’s an international matter.”

Also, the Hajis will have to produce a certificate of polio. The Central Haj Committee has made it mandatory for the Hajis to attach a polio certificate along with the visa while applying for the Haj after a polio case from India came into the notice of Saudi government.

The persons who find their name in the Haj lottery will be administered polio drops on May 21 and May 22 in the district. For this a camp will be organised in the city in the Deputy Padav area by district body of Haj committee.

The last date for filling the application form is May 31.
