TRS to press govt for immediate decision

New Delhi, October 03: Even as the Union government spoke of the need for more consultations on the vexed issue of Telangana as a state, the chief political party supporting the movement reiterated on Sunday that time was running out.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), while holding a protest outside Rajghat on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi here, said it would meet the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues to “convince” them to take an “early decision” on the matter.

No clean chit to Anil Ambani in 2G case

New Delhi, October 03: CBI said on Oct 2 that it was still probing the role of Anil Ambani as part of its investigation into the 2G scam and that he has not been given any clean chit yet.

This was clarified by a spokesperson for the investigating agency in the context of reports that RADAG Chairman Anil Ambani had been given a clean chit in the structuring of different companies and transfer of funds relating to Swan Telecom which had got Spectrum license.

TRS chief to meet PM today

New Delhi, October 03: A day after holding a sit-in at Rajghat in support of his demand for the creation of a new Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to meet the Prime Minister today.

A 30-member delegation led by the TRS chief left for the national capital on Friday to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The TRS chief has warned that the agitation on the issue will continue till the goal is achieved.

He also questioned the government’s stance to hold “further consultations” on the issue.

72 pc Indian youth have unprotected sex: Survey

Mumbai, September 03: As many as 72 per cent of sexually active young people across the country have had sex with new partners without any protection, an international survey says.

At least 40 per cent of the youth polled in India say they had problems accessing contraceptives when they needed, while 36 per cent said they knew a close friend/ family member who has had an unplanned pregnancy.

Nearly a one-third got wrong information about contraception from friends.

Srinagar, October 03: A top Army commander has said the arrest of a militant while he was sneaking into Kashmir Valley in Machhil sector near LoC has exposed the nexus involving ISI, Pakistan Army and terror outfits.

“The arrest of Pakistani national and LeT militant (Nissar Ahmed) has exposed the nexus between the ISI, Pakistan Army and terror outfits in training, arming and psychological indoctrination of Pakistani youth for infiltrating and carrying out acts of terror in Kashmir,” Chinar Corps GoC Lt Gen S A Hasnain said in a defence release here.

‘MP moving towards category of industrially developed states’ Bhopal,

Signs of civil war in Syria

Dubai, October 03: There are growing signs that the current unrest in Syria is sliding into armed civil strife as the government uses the army to regain control over restive cities.

Troops have retaken control of the central city of Rastan after sending in 250 tanks to quell clashes between the army and deserters, human rights activists said yesterday.

“The Syrian army has taken complete control of Rastan, and 50 tanks left on Sunday,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said of the town in Homs province, 160km north of Damascus.

Interest waiver scheme for farmers launched

Ongole, October 03: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday announced waiver of interest scheme for farmers, who avail loans of below Rs One lakh.

Inaugurating the much publicised Indira Jala Prabha scheme at Jangalapalli village in Yerragondapalem mandal in Prakasam district along with Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Chief Minister said that the scheme would benefit 95 lakh farmers in the Rabi season. He said that the interest waiver would be given for those farmers who pay their instalments on time.

Ahmedabad, October 03: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today accused Governor Kamla Beniwal of rejecting a bill providing 50 per cent reservation to women in local government bodies “despite being a woman herself’.

Iranian lovers commit suicide over jail shame

London, October 03: Two Iranian lovers have committed suicide after being imprisoned for being friends of a human rights activist, a media report said Sunday.

Nahal Sahabi, 28, and her boyfriend Behnam Ganji, 22, who were both active bloggers, committed suicide.

Ganji was detained for eight days, while Sahabi was held for three days, Daily Mail reported.

Azad, Kiran Reddy unveil Rajiv Gandhi”s statue

Vijayawada, October 03: Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on BRTS Road. Earlier, Reddy inaugurated a flyover on the Vijayawada-Kazipet railway line. The flyover has been constructed at a cost of Rs 63 crore, with the Railways contributed Rs 37 crore as its share. Azad also unveiled the statue of former state minister Ch Venkata Rao.

Pakistani makes Gandhi’s portrait with blood

New Delhi, September 03: It was a rare evenwt to see a Pakistani draw a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and, that too, with his blood. Abdul Waseel presented one such creation of his Sunday – the birth anniversary of Gandhi – at the Gandhi Darshan here.

“I think this is the best way to tell people of both the countries that its time we forget hostility, and live together. I know Mahatma Gandhi professed non-violence, but my blood to pay him tribute means no more blood sheds should be there on any side of the border,” said Lahore-based Waseel, who had come here to pay his respects to Gandhi.
