Interest waiver scheme for farmers launched

Ongole, October 03: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday announced waiver of interest scheme for farmers, who avail loans of below Rs One lakh.

Inaugurating the much publicised Indira Jala Prabha scheme at Jangalapalli village in Yerragondapalem mandal in Prakasam district along with Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Chief Minister said that the scheme would benefit 95 lakh farmers in the Rabi season. He said that the interest waiver would be given for those farmers who pay their instalments on time.

Under the Indira Jala Prabha scheme, he said that 10 lakh acres of fallow lands cultivable to benefit SC/ST beneficiaries in 22 districts of the state, except Hyderabad. He said that about Rs 1,800 crore would be spent to irrigate and cultivate 10 lakh acres of fallow lands by providing water from bore wells and other water structures.

Kiran Kumar Reddy said that one rupee a kilo rice scheme to be implemented from November 1 would benefit about 2.26 crore people in the State. He reiterated that 5 lakh employment opportunities would be created for youth by upgrading their skills every year.

Meanwhile, some workers allegedly belonging to YSR Congress party raised slogans against the Chief Minster alleging that he failed to implement the schemes of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. However, with police intervention they were taken away from the venue.
