6 killed in Yemen’s violent clashes

Sanaa, September 29: At least six people have been killed during a new outbreak of clashes between troops loyal to Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh and the opposition forces, Press TV reports.

The victims died on Thursday in a shelling by the Saleh troops in the southern city of Taizz.

Earlier, one person was killed and 10 others were injured in clashes between government soldiers and forces led by General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, leading forces that have defected from the government, in the capital Sana’a.

Plane crash leaves 18 dead in Indonesia

Indonesia, September 29: All 18 people aboard a small plane on a local flight in western Indonesia are feared dead after their aircraft crashed into a mountainous area.

Bambang Ervan, spokesman for Indonesia’s Transport Ministry, said the turboprop-powered CASA C-212 Aviocar plane, operated by PT Nusantara Buana Air, was flying from the city of Medan, located 1,402 kilometers (871 miles) northwest of the capital Jakarta, to Kutacane town, located 1,470 kilometers (913 miles) northwest of Jakarta, when it lost contact with air traffic control on Thursday, AFP reported.

Pakistan cannot be asked to do more: Gilani

Islamabad, September 29: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday countered US accusations linking ISI to terror groups in Afghanistan, calling them “surprising”, while stating that his country cannot be pressured to “do more” in the war against terror.

“Pressure cannot be put on Pakistan to do more (in the war on terrorism). Our national interests must be respected under all circumstances,” Gilani said while opening a meeting of the country’s political leadership that he convened to forge a consensus response to tensions with the US.

Truce, says UPA as Pranab, Chidambaram close ranks

New Delhi, September 29: The Congress-led government Thursday sought to bury a flaming row over a finance ministry note that linked Home Minister P. Chidambaram to the 2G scandal, with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee denying the note reflected his views on the 2008 spectrum allocation.

In a bid to show that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was united, Mukherjee read out a prepared statement outside his North Block office. He was flanked by a grave-looking Chidambaram and cabinet ministers Salman Khurshid and Kapil Sibal.

TRS offers to share Hyderabad as capital for few years

Hyderabad, September 29:Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Thursday made it clear that Telangana state without Hyderabad as its capital is unacceptable to it but offered to share the city, saying other proposed states can use it as their capital till they make their own arrangements.

TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao warned the central government against creating any controversy over the status of Hyderabad city, saying Telangana without Hyderabad would be like a headless body.

BJP rejects Pranab’s statement as cover up

New Delhi, September 29: Sharpening its attack against P Chidambaram, involved in the recent 2G note imbroglio, Bharatiya Janata Party rejected Pranab Mukherjee’s statement, saying that the issue was not just about “bruised egos” of warring ministers, but concerns the whole nation.

Maintaining its tough stance, BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad demanded that all ministers, who were involved in the wanton loot of public money, should be probed.

“BJP demands Chidambaram should resign and CBI should investigate the matter,” he said.

2G note: BJP dismisses Pranab’s clarification

New Delhi, September 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday dismissed as ‘untenable’ Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s explanation that the controversial note from his ministry on the 2G scam did not reflect his views.

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said the finance minister did not answer the main question about loot of public money. He accused Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Mukherjee of being busy in their ‘ego battle’.

‘It is not your internal matter or ego battle to be settled, you are accused, your role needs to be investigated,’ Prasad said.

5 US-led soldiers killed in Afghan war

Kabul, September 29: According to an ISAF statement, a bomb attack killed three in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, DPA reported.

Another two were killed in separate incidents in southern and eastern parts of Afghanistan on the same day.

According to the website iCasualties.org, at least 459 US-led soldiers, most of them Americans, have died in Afghanistan so far this year.

Asad has denied KCR’s claim

Filipino embraces Islam, dies

Riyadh, September 29: A Filipino in Saudi Arabia died nearly three months after converting to Islam but it was not clear if he would be buried in the Gulf Kingdom.

Ismail, previously known as Hector, converted to Islam just as he was around 60 years old after attending Islamic lessons in Riyadh, where he had worked.

“Hector embraced Islam nearly three months ago and started to pray every day…he also fasted all Ramadan before he died three days ago,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Sabq said on Thursday.

Hyderabad, September 29: Justice E Ismail former member Human Rights Commission said that Husain Ali Khan better known as Chandra Srivastav is counted among the leading senior journalists of Hyderabad. His writings took form of movements.

Justice E Ismail released Husain Ali Khan’s new compilation ‘Maktoob America’ at Press club and said that Husain Ali Khan had untiringly struggled for preservation of Urdu rights and gave it a form of movement.

Textile minister caught in camera while accepting bribe

Hyderabad, September 29: Minister for Handloom and Textile Dr. Shankar Rao who campaigned against corruption and had sent letters to high court and CBI demanding investigations, has been caught on camera by a television channel while accepting 10 lakh rupees from a corporator and promising ticket to him. The television channel aired the clipping.

Dr. Shankar Rao could not be reached by the media for his response but people have demanded his resignation. YSR Congress party leader Mr. J Prabhakar hoped that High court will take the matter itself.

 Robbery attempt fails, robber drowned

Hyderabad, September 29 (Siasat News): In a bizzare incident, a robber who failed in his attempt and later to refrain from public’s ire, he  was drowned.

This incident occurred in the jurisdiction of L B Nagar police station. Police sources said that B Anil, 21, native of Nagole, had gone to Tyagaraja colony yesterday with the sole intention of robbing a woman of her gold chain who was fast asleep.
