Pankaj Dwivedi is new Chief Secretary

Hyderabad, September 29: Senior IAS officer and Special Secretary (Land Administration) Pankaj Dwivedi has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the State Government. He will be taking charge from SV Prasad who retired on September 30.

A 1975-batch IAS officer, Dwivedi was earlier the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration. He is the senior most officer in the state at the moment and his appointment has the backing of the Congress High Command.

Man kills girlfriend by stabbing over 30 times

Beijing, September 29: A 38-year-old man in China brutally killed his girlfriend by stabbing her all over while having a drink at a restaurant. He did not stop attacking her till he injured his hands.

The suspect, surnamed Tang, allegedly stabbed 37-year-old Chen Haihua over 30 times while drinking at a restaurant at People’s Square Aug 15. Chen, who suffered repeated stabs on the neck, chest, belly and back, was pronounced dead after she was rushed to the nearby Changzheng hospital, the Shanghai Daily reported.

Modi may skip BJP national meet

New Delhi, September 29: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to attend the two-day national executive meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) beginning here Friday, triggering speculation of a rift in the party, sources said.

The official version given by the party is that he is caught up in the busy schedule related to the Navaratra festival.

China launches Tiangong-1 for space station

4 GOP senators travel to post-Gadhafi Libya

Secret new Russian missile fails in testing

Moscow, September 29: A new intercontinental Russian missile whose development has been kept as a state secret failed in its first test-firing and crashed back into the launch zone, reports said on Thursday.

Reports published on Russian news agencies about the failed test firing from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in Northern Russia appeared to be the first indication that the ground-based missile even existed.

“After launch, the missile fell back down onto the territory of the cosmodrome. There were no casualties or damage,” a military source said.

No newspapers for Hyderabad as hawkers join Telangana stir

Hyderabad, September 29: The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh Thursday went without newspapers as hawkers joined the ongoing general strike for a separate Telangana state.

No newspapers could reach the readers as the hawkers stayed away from distribution of papers. English, Telugu, Urdu and Hindi newspapers were missing from bookshops and newspaper stands across the state capital.

Tension prevailed at Secunderabad Clock Tower as police stopped newspaper hawkers from taking out a bike rally to Telangana martyrs’ memorial near the state assembly building.

Protests in Srinagar after woman’s death

Srinagar, September 29: Protests erupted in a Srinagar locality Thursday where residents alleged a woman had died of a heart attack after police visited her house to serve a warrant to her brother.

“Protests erupted in Iqbal Park area where some people disrupted traffic following the death of a woman named Jana, wife of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh of Baran Pathar area.

“The protesters alleged the woman had died of a heart attack after local policemen visited her home earlier today (Thursday) to serve a warrant issued by the district magistrate,” a police officer told IANS here.

Telangana in 1 month: Botsa

Hyderabad, September 29: Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Thursday claimed that the Congress High Command would resolve the Telangana issue within one month.

TDP MLAs attacked in Nizamabad

Hyderabad, September 29: Several TDP MLAs from Telangana region were injured when they clashed with the police after they were prevented from entering the Banswada assembly constituency here on Thursday.

The clash took place near Basvapur of Bikanoor mandal. All 32 members TDP MLAs from the region, who submitted their resignations from the posts on Wednesday, took up bus yatra for Banswada assembly constituency where by-elections are scheduled to be held on October 13. Telangana protests: Siege at Congress ministers’ homes

Hyderabad, September 29: Demanding their resignations, Telangana protestors Thursday laid siege to the residences of Congress ministers and legislators in the region while the “people’s strike” continued for the 17th day.

Police arrested dozens of activists of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) for trying to barge into the houses of ruling Congress ministers and state legislators in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana.

Accused for murder woman says she’s a vampire

Miami, September 29: A Florida woman accused of having lured a teenager to a house where a group beat him to death says that she is a vampire.

“Since I was like, 12 … I know this is going to be crazy, but I believe that I’m a vampire. Part of a vampire and part of a werewolf,” 18-year-old Stephanie Pistey said in an interview with WJHG television in Panama City.

Apparently, Pistey confirmed to police that the five people – including herself – involved in the July murder of Jacob Hendershot, 16, near the panhandle city, were members of a vampire cult.
