Telangana state in October: Shankar Rao

Hyderabad, July 31: Claiming that separate Telangana state would become a reality in the coming October, textiles minister P Shankar Rao on Saturday appealed to Telangana employees, teachers and workers to postpone their proposed general strike as the central government was keen to resolve the issue.
He also wrote a letter to Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi requesting her to take a decision favourable to people of Telangana at the earliest.

4 dead, 20 injured as lorry overturns

Anantpur, July 31: Four persons died and 20 others were injured when papayas-laden lorry overturned near Garladinne on Saturday evening.
The mishap occurred when 24 daily wage workers from Chandrababu Naidu Colony on the outskirts of Anantapur were on their way to Krishnapuram of Garladinne mandal for plucking papayas. Rash driving by the driver is said to have resulted in the mishap. The deceased are Saneema, Sreerami Reddy and Kishtappa.Garladinne police registered a case.

Heavy rain lashes state

Hyderabad, July 31: Heavy rain occurred in many places in coastal Andhra and Telangana and isolated rain in Rayalaseema on Saturday. The rain created havoc in Vijayawada, Guntur, Kaikaluru, Tuni, Karimnagar and Nandayal.

Met department said that an upper air circulation, which formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal off Visakhapatnam coast, has intensified and is likely to grow into low-pressure. “Under its influence, heavy rainfall is expected in many places across the state in the next two days,”the officials said.

UID not needed for LPG refill in AP

Hyderabad, July 31: Aadhaar card number is not required for getting a new cooking gas connection or booking a refill cylinder in the state.
In case any gas agency insists on the consumer to provide them the Aadhaar card number or the proof of having applied for the card, one can lodge a complaint with the civil supplies authorities.

Further, the government has clarified that the Aadhaar number is only an option but not mandatory for obtaining any benefits under government schemes.

TTDF to decide Monday on resignations

Hyderabad, July 31: The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum (TTDF) has decided to mount pressure on the Congress MLAs to resubmit resignations again.
The forum, which met here on Saturday, understood that the ruling Congress MLAs were under pressure from the high command not to resign. The Telangana TDP MLAs, who are determined to resign afresh, now decided to bring pressure on the Congress.

No reports sent to Centre on Telangana: Botcha

Hyderabad, July 31: Brushing aside the reports published in a section of the press that he has sent reports to the Congress high command stating that he has no objection even if the state was trifurcated, APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana has said that nobody had asked him to send reports to the Central leadership on Telangana issue. However, information about the prevailing situation in the state was being forwarded to the high command from time to time, he added.

Telangana bandh on Aug 5 if CM fails to defer SI test: Chandrashekar Rao

Hyderabad, July 31: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has decided to observe Telangana Bandh on August 5 demanding that the State government conduct the SI Recruitment written examination only after deleting the controversial 14 (F) Clause from Presidential Order. The TRS has questioned the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, about the problem in conducting the examination after deleting the 14(F) Clause.

Youth jumps to death

Hyderabad, July 31: A youngster committed suicide by jumping from a high rise building in Ameerpet on Sunday morning.

Police suspect that he was the son of Kollapur MLA, Mr Jupalli Krishna Rao’s driver.

Reasons for the suicide are not immediately known. Police have registered a case and taken up investigation.

Indian army ‘halting peace in Kashmir’

Jammu, July 31: Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has slammed the Indian government, saying that it is using armed forces to stop the peace process in the restive Himalayan region.

The chairman of the separatist faction of Hurriyat Conference said on Saturday that the large contingent of troops in the region was “blocking the path to peace”.

He was speaking during a seminar called “Kashmir: Road to Peace” in the provincial summer capital Srinagar, the Reuters reported.

Makkah clock tower to beam from beginning of Ramadan

Makkah, July 31: The Makkah Royal Clock Tower, the second tallest tower in the world, will start emitting 16 light beams to a height of 10 kilometers Sunday evening to announce the beginning of Ramadan.

The loud speakers installed at the top of the tower will carry the sound of adhan (call to prayer) from the Grand Mosque to seven kilometers far. The powerful lights in white and green blinking at the time of adhan can be seen from a distance of 30 kilometers. The lights are also helpful for people with hearing difficulties to know prayer times.

Action will be taken against misuse of Wakf Properties

Hyderabad, July 31: Mr. Syed Mohammed Ahmedullah, Minister for Minorities Welfare, Govt of India said that arrangements are being made to computerize the Wakf documents. Action will be taken against both the buyers and sellers of Wakf Properties.

He said that if any Wakf Property is registered in somebody’s name, it has no value. Wakf Board is a Semi-autonomous body which is answerable to the Govt. Nearly 150 acres of valuables land has been given on lease illegally. Step are being taken to get back that property.

Mosque in Madhapur was demolished, Police supporting land grabbers

Hyderabad, July 31: A mosque was demolished with the help of a bulldozer. The people were not given an opportunity even to take out the Quran and other valuables from the mosque .

It was not known who is demolishing the mosque. On enquiry, the police said that it is being done under the court orders but they didn’t have any such orders.

Three Army jawans killed in Kupwara encounter

Srinagar, July 31: Three Army jawans were killed and two others injured in a fierce gunbattle with infiltrating militants near the Line of Control in Kupwara district Saturday night, official sources said in Srinagar.

Troops of 19 Rajput Rifles of the Army noticed movement of heavily-armed militants near Temple Post at Furkian Gali near LoC late Saturday evening, the sources said.

They said the militants were challenged by the troops but the ultras opened firing, leading to heavy xchange of firing between the two sides.

Sugar at Rs 30 a kg at Rythu Bazar

Hyderabad, July 31: : In view of the escalating sugar prices in the state, the government has decided to intervene and bring down the price of sugar immediately.

It would purchase levy free sugar from factories through Andhra Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation, and make it available for Rs 30 a kg from Aug 1.

About 1 kg sugar will be supplied to each family through outlets at rythu bazaars in all districts.

Consumers need not produce ration card for purchasing sugar from the outlets, said a release.

India will participate in nuclear security summit in Korea

New Delhi, July 31: President Pratibha Patil has expressed confidence that the India-South Korea Agreement on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, signed during her just-concluded state visit to Korea, would enable the two countries to cooperate in this area.

Talking to journalists on-board the special flight bringing her back home from her two-nation visit to Korea and Mongolia, she said on Saturday that “the nuclear security initiative conference will be taking place in Korea [next year] and India will participate.”
