Will react to resignations at apt time: Lagadapati

Vijayawada, July 05: Stating that everyone has freedom to express their opinion in democracy, Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Monday stated that he would react at an appropriate time on the resignations submitted by Legislators from Telangana.

The otherwise garrulous MP, known to stir the proverbial hornets’ nest through his words, told media persons at the Congress party office that the time is not right to speak about the resignations.

OU students to picket Legislators who did not resign

Hyderabad, July 05: Hailing the resignation of Telangana leaders from the Congress and Telugu Desam Party, Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee on Monday warned that the student leaders would picket the houses of those leaders who failed to resign to their posts.

The OUJAC condemned the statements of those describing the resignations as `political drama’ and warned that the people of region would not forgive them and teach a fitting lesson to them in the next elections.

The JAC members demanded that the Centre announce a clear decision before July 10.

Krishna Babu inspects inundations prone areas of old city

Hyderabad, July 05: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner MT Krishna Babu, along with MLA Moazzam Khan and local Corporators visited Bahadurpura and Yakutpura and inspected areas which get inundated due to rains.

In view of rains which lashed the different parts of the city on Sunday evening, the MLA, GHMC Commissioner, Chief Engineer and local Corporators inspected inundated areas of Talab Katta, Jhangir Nagar, Aman nagar, Lilitha Bagh, Bilal nagar, Amjadulla nagar, Macca Colony of Bahadurpura constituency and several areas of Karwan constituency.

Weekly special train services extended

Hyderabad, July 05: In order to clear extra rush of passenger traffic, the South Central Railway has extended the weekly special trains running between Porbandar and Secunderabad and Ahmedabad and Yesvantpur.

According to the SCR, Train No 09221 Porbandar-Secunderabad weekly Special train will be extended to run on July 4, 11, 18 and 25(Mondays).

In the return direction, Train No 09222 Secunderabad-Porbandar Special Train will be extended to run on July 6, 13, 20 and 27 (Wednesdays).

GHMC seals complex for severe building deviations

Hyderabad, July 05: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials on Monday sealed a newly constructed six-storey commercial for ‘severely deviating’ from the approved building plans and other lapses.

The GHMC said that the complex, housing the ‘Brand Factory’ and ‘Reliance Digital Retail Limited’ at Himayathnagar.

The building is said to be the property of one Rajkumar Malpani and and Maheshwar Mega Venture builders.

Army not to give NOCs for civilians constructing houses

Hyderabad, July 05: The Army on Monday said that henceforth, civilians applying for No Objection Certificates for construction of houses from the Local Millitary Authority will have to apply directly to the concerned Municipal Corporations or Panchayats.

A statement issued by the Defence Wing said that as per the orders of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, the defence authority have to give NOCs for construction of houses on private lands contiguous to defence land.

Resignations will have no affect on govt functioning: Chief Secretary

Hyderabad, July 05: Chief Secretary SV Prasad denied that there is any lull in the administration due to the ongoing ‘exercise’ by the Ministers, ruling party MLAs and all political parties’ Legislators for achieving a separate statehood for Telangana.

“Not in the least,” stated the Chief Secretary before media persons at the Secretariat when asked if the resignations would have any adverse impact on either the governance or movement related to files in the various Departments.

Will give my life for T but will not resign: MP Sarvey

New Delhi, July 05: Lok Sabha Member Sarvey Satyanarayana on Monday wondered who would fight for separate Telangana statehood if the Legislators resign from their elected posts.

Expressing his opposition to the resignations of Telangana Legislators as part of their attempts to force the Centre into announcing a decision on the separate statehood demand, Mr Satyanarayana said that he was ready end his life for the cause of Telangana but would not resign.

“Who would fight for Telangana if we resign from our posts,” he shot back at media persons here.

Reconsider decision on resignations: Azad to T Legislators

New Delhi, July 05: All India Congress Committee General Secretary and party In-Charge of Andhra Pradesh Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday appealed to Telangana leaders to reconsider their decision on resigning for the cause of statehood.

New Delhi, July 04: Health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday described homosexuality as a “disease” and regretted that despite being “unnatural”, it now afflicts a substantial number of people in India.

“The disease of ‘Men having Sex with Men’ (MSM), which was found more in the developed world, has now unfortunately come to our country and there is a substantial number of such people in India”, Azad said speaking at a convention on HIV/AIDS at Vigyan Bhawan here.

Iran hangs man for murder, theft of cell phones and money from shop

Tehran, July 04: Iran has hanged a man in a prison in the northeastern city of Mashhad after convicting him of murdering an acquaintance who owned a mobile phone shop, the Iran-based Khorasan newspaper reported on Monday.

The report did not name the man sent to the gallows on Sunday, but said he had stabbed to death a 26-year-old the paper identified by his first name, Mehdi.

The hanged man was found guilty of taking Mehdi’s keys and then stealing mobile phones and cash from the shop’s safe.

Storm kills 16 in Mexico

Mexico, July 4: Torrential rains in Mexico triggered by tropical storm Arlene has led to the death of at least 16 people while 20,000 have been affected across the country, officials said.
The storm has created havoc in the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla and San Luis Potosi, Xinhua reported.
Hidalgo state civil protection director Miguel Garcia said seven people have died in his region, while 1,000 people had to be evacuated because of landslides.

Plane makes emergency landing in Russia

Moscow, July 4: An Airbus A-320 plane with 150 passengers on board made an emergency landing at an airport in Russia’s Siberia region after flying into a flock of birds. The plane landed successfully at the Tolmachevo airport in Novosibirsk city Sunday.
It was on its way to Krasnodar in southern Russia, a transport official said. No one was hurt in the incident.
The crew took the decision to return after the collision with the birds caused increased vibration.

13 Al Qaeda militants killed in Yemen

Sana’a, July 4: At least 13 Al Qaeda militants and 10 soldiers were killed when the militants launched an attack at military troops in Yemen Sunday, army officers said.
The attack took place in the southern province of Abyan. Dozens were injured from both sides, the officers told Xinhua.Clashes were still going on in various parts of the Al Qaeda-seized Zinjibar city.
Fierce battles erupted late Friday between Al Qaeda militants and troops of the 25th Mechanised Brigade stationed in the outskirts of Zinjibar, More than 50 soldiers have been taken as hostages, they said.

Bangladesh not to make statement on Singh remark

Dhaka, July 4: Dhaka will not make a formal statement on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remark on Bangladesh, a top official has said.
Dhaka won’t make the formal statement as it is convinced there is no “necessity” of doing so after official clarifications were given by the Indian government, reported Daily Star.
Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes said Sunday: “I have seen both the statements issued by the Indian external affairs ministry and the high commission in Dhaka. After these two statements, I don’t see the necessity of one more statement on the issue.”

Taliban kidnap British soldier in Afghanistan

London, July 4: Hundreds of soldiers were Monday engaged in a search for a British soldier who has been kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, Daily Mail reported.
The unnamed man was seized during a fierce gun battle with insurgents Sunday evening in the Babaji area of southern Helmand of Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed that the captured soldier was British and his family has been informed.

Hyderabad, July 4: The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum has put a rider for its members’ resignations from the Assembly. The TDP MLAs from the region will resign only if a majority of the Congress legislators quit as announced at 11 am on July 4.
