Man rapes 2 sisters, jailed

Moga, June 04: A city court here awarded seven years rigorous punishment to man who for raping two sisters of Dala village in the district.

Additional Sessions Judge Harpal Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on Jugraj Singh yesterday.

However, two other accused Gurtej Singh and Jagjit Singh were acquitted by the court.

Gurtej Singh, a neighbour of the victims, had introduced them to Jugraj Singh.

Jugraj along with his accomplices took the two sisters to Nainadevi in Himachal Pradesh where he raped them two years back.

Ilyas Kashmiri killed in drone attack

Peshawar, June 4 (IANS) Pakistani terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri has been killed in a drone strike in South Waziristan, a media report said Saturday.

Kashmiri was killed in the strike that killed at least nine militants, the daily Dawn quoted BBC Urdu service as reporting.

Kashmiri was the chief of the Harkatul Jihad al-Islami (HuJI).

Woman missing with children

Hyderabad, June 4 (Siasat News): A woman along with her three children is missing from Badam Galli of Old Malakpet.

According to Chaderghat police, Atia Fatima, 30, along with her three children went missing since May 29. In the meantime, Atia Fatima’s father Habeebuddin has lodged a complaint in Chaderghat police station and the police has already started the search operation.

Post matric scholarship hiked

Hyderabad, June 4: The Central government has decided to revise the post matric scholarship scheme for ST students. It has also been decided to include more castes and communities in central OBC list.

In a CCEA meeting presided by prime minister the proposal of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to substantially hike the post-matric scholarship amount and other benefits of ST students and disabled was approved.

Mr. P Chidambaram said that this revision will come into effect from July last year.

7,000 people a day still catching AIDS: UN

United Nations: About 7,000 people are being infected with AIDS each day and about half of the 34 million people with HIV do not know they have it, according to a UN report released to mark the disease’s 30th anniversary.

Protest Alleged Demolition of Mosque

New Delhi, June 04: A group of representatives of prominent Muslim bodies demonstrated near the Prime Minister’s residence to protest against the alleged demolition of a mosque and madarsa near the President’s estate.

Unhappy over what they claimed was a demolition without any notice or warning, the group staged a dharna, asking the Prime Minister to address their concerns.

The mosque and the madrassa, they said, was located less than a kilometre away from the President estate’s stable and was brought down three days back without any notice.

Japan seizes $4.4 billion in Gaddafi assets

Tokyo, June 04: Japan has frozen $4.4 billion in assets belonging to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his entourage under the terms of a UN Security Council resolution, a report said on Saturday.

The assets included bank savings, the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reported citing data of the finance ministry, without giving fuller details. A spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the report.

`Pakistani journalist’s killers wanted to set an example’

Islamabad, June 4: The killers of Pakistani journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad made no attempt to hide his body as they wanted to make his death “an example for other journalists”, a police official said.

Shahzad, 40, was kidnapped in Islamabad Sunday and his body, bearing marks of severe torture, was found dumped in a canal in Punjab province Tuesday.

He is widely believed to have been seized by intelligence officials for alleging inhis article that terrorists attacked a key naval base in Karachi May 22 after the navy refused to free sailors held for suspected militant links.

Patna, June 04: A lingering dispute over land acquisition for an under-construction glucose and starch factory in Bihar’s Araria district between the factory owners and villagers turned violent on Friday. Four protesting villagers were killed and about 10 others were injured in the ensuing firing by the police.

A woman and a child were among the four killed in the firing that took place in the private factory’s premises near the northern Bihar town of Forbesganj in Araria. The injured, admitted at a hospital in Forbesganj, were reported to be in a stable condition.
