Lake police are back

Hyderabad, January 31: The Lake police station, which had been lying defunct for the past few years, has got a fresh lease of life.

The police station dedicated to guard the Hussain Sagar and prevent suicides, was started in 2002 as part of Lake Policing project.

But it died a swift death thanks to official apathy. The one jeep provided to it was under repair, the speed boat provided went unused and the wireless surveillance camera installed to monitor every inch of lake waters was not functional since the past few years.

Antony meets Chiru to seek support in AP

Hyderabad, January 31: In a significant development, senior Congress leader and Defence Minister A.K.Antony Monday met Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president K.Chiranjeevi and reportedly sought his support to the state Congress government, sources said.

Antony drove straight from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Chiranjeevi’s residence in Jubliee Hills and held talks with him. The Congress’ Andhra Pradesh unit chief D.Srinivas was also present, PRP sources said.

Two held for indecent SMSes

Hyderabad, January 31: Two youngsters, who were sending abusive and indecent SMSes, were nabbed by the Task Force sleuths today.

The duo were sending SMSes to unidentified persons in the name of their rivals to derive pleasure when the latter were taken to task by receivers of the messages.

According to police, one of the accused, 20-year-old Shaik Mohd Iqbal, runs a kirana shop near his residence at Talabkatta. Iqbal reportedly had a quarrel with two neighbouring shopkeepers, Raheem and Multani, some time back.

Six security personnel held, arms seized

Hyderabad, January 31: Six persons, including some from Bihar who were working as security personnel in the city, were nabbed and six fire arms including a country- made weapon were recovered by the Task Force sleuths.

On a tip-of f, the Task Force sleuths nabbed five persons, Dheeraj Singh and Ravinder Singh Yadav of UP, Ashok Singh and Dhananjaya Singh of Bihar and Narayana Manoj Singh of Langer Houz, and seized four .32 revolvers, a .32 pistol and 42 live rounds of ammunition and five gun licences from them.

JAC to disrupt CM’s Rachabanda in Medak

Hyderabad, January 31: More trouble is in store for Rachabanda programme in Telangana. The Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) announced that it would obstruct the programme of chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to be held at Medak on Feb 9. The JAC took the decision after police allegedly started disrupting relay hunger strikes at several parts in the region.

‘Set deadline for project completion’

Pulichintala, January 31: The Pulichintala project works are going on at a snail’s pace as the state government has not released any funds for it since August 2010.

Ashok, project in-charge of Srinivasa Constructions, which is executing the irrigation project, said Rs 40 crore was due to them from the government.

Pulichintala project executive engineer P Bhaskar Rao said bills worth Rs 23 crore were pending with the government.

District Telugu Desam president and Mylavaram MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said Rs 125 crore was allocated for the project in the last budget.

Revoke GO on building rules: Mayor asks CM

Hyderabad, January 31: City mayor Banda Karthika Reddy has requested the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for revoking of government orders related to the mortgage clause issued last year by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department.

In a letter to the chief minister, the mayor urged him to amend the Andhra Pradesh revised common building rules.

The state government had issued a GO, dated October 13, 2010 mentioning applicants holding 100 sq m and above plot have to mortgage 10 percent built-up area.

GHMC’s IT wing goofs on tax-payer updates

Hyderabad, January 31: Due to lack of manpower and improper functioning of the IT wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), many owners of houses and commercial complexes who have paid their property tax are finding that their details have not been updated. Bill collectors knocking on the doors of house owners and commercial complexes are getting an earful from angry tax-payers.

Officials inspects water supply, sewerage system

Hyderabad, January 31: As part of the proposed Rachabanda programme at Hafeezbaba Nagar and the public meeting at Barkas Grounds on February 2, managing director of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Boa rd (HMWS&SB), M Jagadeeshwar along with other officials inspected the water supply position and sewerage system in the Hafeezbaba Nagar blocks A,B and C on Sunday. During the inspection, the managing director found that there were lengthy water supply connections, water leakages and broken sewer manholes in the area.

JAC camp set afire at Qutbullapur

Hyderabad, January 31: Unidentified miscreants set ablaze a tent erected by local students Joint Action Committee of Qutbullapur leading to mild tension in the area.

It was put up a few days back near Qutbullapur police outpost following TJAC’s call to stage relay hunger strikes across the region for separate Telangana.

Andhra: KCR trying every trick to unsettle Kiran

Hyderabad, January 31: What is Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhara Rao up to? As chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy begins finding his feet, the TRS president appears determined to thwart him.

The chief minister is touring the state, including Telangana districts, ignoring the call for disruption by the Telangana Joint Action Committee.

According to sources, the TRS chief fears that if Kiran Kumar Reddy settles down in his job, he might generate a sense of self-confidence in Telangana ministers and MLAs to face the TRS, in which scenario the TRS will be the loser.

11-kg ganja seized, two persons arrested

Hyderabad, January 31: Police nabbed two persons and seized 11 kilo ganja from them today.

The arrested, P Sreenu alias Chubul Sreenu, a fruit vendor from Sitaphalmandi and R Chenna Keshava Rao of Neredmet, brought the contraband from Warangal and were planning to sell it at a higher price here when Task Force sleuths, on reliable information, took them into custody.

Police unearthed six electric detonators on the Gadwal- Izha road during an overnight search operation in Gadwal and surrounding areas after anonymous calls regarding “land mines” on the minister’s route.

Woman tries to sell her baby

Karimnagar, January 31: A poverty-stricken woman put her one-year-old baby on sale at Tippapur in Vemulawada mandal. She even approached a broker for this purpose.

Kousalya married Sundaraiah in Pathipadu in Guntur district and they migrated to Sircilla in search of a livelihood about 7 years ago.

Sundaraiah died due to heart ailment, two months ago. Since then Kousalya has been working as a help in a tent house to take care of her three daughters, Usha (12), Ashwini (9) and Alekhya (1).
