Revoke GO on building rules: Mayor asks CM

Hyderabad, January 31: City mayor Banda Karthika Reddy has requested the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for revoking of government orders related to the mortgage clause issued last year by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department.

In a letter to the chief minister, the mayor urged him to amend the Andhra Pradesh revised common building rules.

The state government had issued a GO, dated October 13, 2010 mentioning applicants holding 100 sq m and above plot have to mortgage 10 percent built-up area.

Karthika Reddy said that many corporators and general public are opposed to the mortgage clause, as it is a hurdle for low and middle income people to build their own house.

She also informed that after the waiver of the clause, if any violations are made by plot holders, the GHMC would make sure to penalise owners.

In view of the above circumstances, the mayor appealed to the Kiran Kumar Reddy to revoke the orders and restore the old system.

She also mentioned the government should amend rules from time to time in interest of the public and housing development activity.
