Kerosene mafia attack police team in Nagpur

Nagpur, February 01: Exactly a week after the additional collector of Nashik district was burnt alive by the oil mafia, a team of 10 policemen were Tuesday attacked by a kerosene seller and his men here, police said.

“The incident happened in Rajurwadi village of Umred tehsil of the district when a team of policemen went to investigate reports that a consignment of kerosene has been brought to the village illegally,” a police officer said.

Air India’s special flight brought 128 more Indians from Egypt

New Delhi, February 01: An Air India’s special flight brought back 128 Indians from strife-torn Egypt on Tuesday taking the number of evacuees to 428 in the past 48 hours.

Mumbai airport sources said the national carrier safely landed at the tarmac with the passengers from Cairo in the morning.

Many passengers wept after touching the land as they looked tiered and panicky.

They said they had been worried about their future and could not move beyond hotels or from temporary shelters because of turmoil in that country.

Duped Indian students in US face uncertain future

Hyderabad, February 01: The Indian students duped by a fake university in the US face an uncertain future as their appeal is not likely to be heard in a court there before September.

The 1,555 students, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, feel they are being subjected to inhuman treatment by the US authorities for no fault of theirs. They want the Indian government to immediately come to their rescue and help them transfer to other US universities.

Dhaka, February 01: Bangladesh has ordered electricity companies to show World Cup cricket matches on generator-powered public screens in a bid to prevent protests by irate fans if power cuts disrupt TV broadcasts.

Cricket-mad Bangladesh is a co-host of the World Cup, which starts February 19, and Dhaka is keen to prevent a repeat of the unrest during the 2010 football World Cup when fans rioted after power cuts interrupted viewing.

Lorry runs amok, crushes shepherd, 40 sheep

Karimnagar, February 1: A lorry ran amok and crushed a shepherd to death, along with about 40 sheep near Singapur in Huzurabad mandal in Karimnagar district on Monday.

According to Huzurabad Assistant sub–inspector Papayaiah Nayak, the lorry driver lost control over his vehicle and veered into a herd of sheep, killing one shepherd and leaving another with injuries. The lorry also crushed about 40 sheep to death on the spot and another seven animals were left seriously injured.

The deceased shepherd has been identified as Veera Boina Ravi and injured was said to be one Mondaiah.

Woman found dead in TTD cottage

Tirupati, February 1: A woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Room No. 634 of the Hill View Cottage of Tirumala Hills on Monday.

According to the police, the cottage was taken in the name of one Ramu of Akulakatta village of Vizianagaram district. As they have not vacated the cottage even after 48 hours, the TTD employees peeped into the cottage through the window and found the woman dead. Ramu, who had taken the cottage was missing.

The police are investigating whether it was a suicide or a cold blooded murder.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat on Monday, Dr Shankar Rao revealed that the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has invited industries from Andhra Pradesh to participate in the Turkish exhibition with an objective to promote Indian image as also to provide a platform for industries to showcase their strength and capabilities in an emerging and developing market of that country.
