4 killed in major fire in Bandra

Mumbai, June 18: At least four people were killed and several injured in a major fire, that destroyed more than 400 hutments in Behrampada in suburban Mumbai early today.

Minister of State for Home Nassem Khan, who rushed to the spot along with officials, told UNI that so far four people had been killed.

Local people in the slum located in Bandra east expressed fear that several people were still trapped in the simmering fire.

The 24-year-old actress, whose earnings support her family of seven sisters, said there are times when she feels that she needs the money being offered to do a particular film.

“I am in a panic situation. But, If I succumb to such pressures, I know the audience will not respect me,” Katrina said in an interview.

Looking back at her career, she said she considers her journey so far as a learning experience.

Fire in Bandra slum; 15 people injured

Mumbai, June 18: A fire broke out in a slum adjoining the suburban Bandra railway station here in the wee hours on Thursday, leaving 15 people injured and gutting about 200 shanties.

The fire broke out around 0400 hours in the Garibnagar area, disaster management officials said, adding the cause is yet to be ascertained.

“Twenty five fire engines, 16 water tankers and four ambulances were sent to the spot to aide fire fighting operations. So far about 14-15 people have sustained injuries and two have been admitted to Bhabha hospital in Bandra,” they said.

‘Fresh hymen tear’ seals man’s fate in rape case

Mumbai, June 18: Like Shiney Ahuja, Ramshankar Chaudhary had been charged with raping his employee. In his case too, medical reports showed that the 27-year-old owner of Sheetal Industries in Oshiwara had made “an attempt at forceful intercourse”. (Police said on Tuesday that medical reports of the domestic aid, who has accused that Shiney raped her on Sunday, confirmed forced vaginal intercourse.)

Woman bludgeons husband to death

New Delhi, June 18: A woman bludgeoned her husband to death and committed suicide after he refused to accompany her for a walk, police said here on Wednesday.

Vimla (38), who the police said was mentally ill, killed her husband Ram Prakash (47) with a hammer at their house at Shahibabad on Tuesday night, police said.

The incident occurred barely a week after a man killed his five children before attacking his wife and attempting suicide in this satellite town of the national capital.

India not doing enough to combat ‘modern slavery’: US report

Washington, June 17 : Saying that New Delhi is not doing enough to curb human smuggling, the US has placed India in the second worst category in a blacklist of countries not meeting the minimum standard of combating trafficking.

“India is a source, destination, and transit country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labour and commercial sexual exploitation,” said the 2009 Trafficking in Persons Report released by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Tuesday.

12 halved baby corn

1 kg wheat flour, salt to taste, 12 gm oil, 50 gm desi ghee.

For the filling: 100 gm chicken mince, 30 gm methi, 4 gm garlic (chopped), 25 gm khoya (grated), 20 gm oil, 1 gm chilli powder, 2 gm cumin seeds, 4 gm ginger (chopped), 4 gm chillies (chopped), a pinch of garam masala, 10 gm coriander (chopped), 1 lemon wedge.

Mumbai, June 17: Katrina Kaif seems to have made a wise decision by bowing out of 7 Days in Paris after her role was reduced drastically by Imran Khan. The latest buzz about the film is that now the actor has completely taken over the project.

Commenting on Imran’s involvement with the project, a source said, “Imran is writing the screenplay. He is also scouting for locales with Gadhvi. At this rate, the actor may even ghost direct the film.”

Considering the involvement of the actor, the buzz is that he may be credited as the assistant director.

Akshaye-Arshad at loggerheads

A source said, “During the awards, while Arshad walked the ramp on the title track of Short Kut, Akshaye said he was too unwell to attend the event. Three CPI(M) workers shot dead in West Midnapore

Kolkata, June 17: Three CPI(M) workers, including a local leader, were shot dead by unidentified assailants at Banksole in West Midanpore district on Wednesday.

The six motorcycle-borne assailants killed the three including CPI(M)’s Shimli branch secretary Amal Mahato when they were having tea at a shop after patrolling the forest in the night to guard against Maoist-backed tribal agitators.
