Nottingham, June 17: Criticised by former cricketers for his tactical blunders against England, Mahendra Singh Dhoni faced the wrath of angry fans as he was booed after India’s 12-run defeat to South Africa in their final Twenty20 World Cup Super Eight match here.
Dhoni was booed at the presentation ceremony after the match but the beleaguered Indian captain said it didn’t affect him.

Nottingham, June 17: An intriguing battle is on the cards when favourites South Africa clash with buoyant Pakistan in the semi-final of the World Twenty20 on Thursday.

The South Africans have showed their all-round prowess during an unbeaten run in the tournament, including emphatic wins in all three Super Eight games against the West Indies, England and defending champions India.

Over 6,000 queue up for 2,000 vacancies

Mumbai, June 17: Over 6,000 people queued up outside the employment and self employment bureau at Nariman Point on Tuesday with the hope of landing a job with one of the 13 participating firms.

With companies looking to fill up nearly 2,000 vacancies, candidates, aged between 18 and 38, didn’t mind sweating it in the sun out while waiting for their turn in the serpentine queue.

While some of the job seekers were BSc, there were some who had not even cleared their SSC exam.

Police go to Raigad to seek girl’s school certificate

Mumbai, June 17: The Ahujas’ house was sealed by the police later. It will be returned to the Ahuja family after the forensic tests have been completed.

A police team has also left for the victim’s native place, Roha in Raigad district, to access her school certificate to ascertain her age. The victim studied till Std VII. It is not yet known if she is below 18.

The victim is a resident of Virar and stays with an aunt who introduced her to the Ahuja family.

Lawyers union to conduct model test

Hyderabad, June 17: The State committee of All- India Lawyers’ Union (AILU) is conducting a model test on June 21 at Hyderabad and district centres for benefit of candidates appearing for the Junior Civil Judge’s examination. Candidates wishing to appear for the test may contact the secretaries of the respective district units of AILU and register their names. Haj: plea to people on waitlist

Hyderabad, June 17: The 124 wait listed Haj applicants are asked to submit the application forms along with a bank challan receipt of Rs. 30,700. The applicants will also have to submit the address and identity proof.

Pilgrims belonging to districts may submit their applications through the societies nominated by the State Haj Committee while those in Hyderabad should submit their forms in the Haj Committee office at the earliest, according to M.A. Quddus, Executive Officer, State Haj Committee.

Nine-year-old tests A (H1N1) positive

Hdyerabad, June 17: A nine-year-old boy who travelled from New Jersey to the city this week has tested positive for influenza A (H1N1), while two new cases suspected of similar symptoms have been reported on Tuesday.

The number of persons under observation or treatment at the Government General and Chest Hospital rose to ten. “Six of them are positive and the reports of others are awaited,” said K. Subhakar, State Coordinator for influenza A(H1N1).

Encroachers asked to vacate in 48 hrs

Hyderabad, June 17: At last the government swung into action and served an ultimatum to the illegal occupants of Badehshai Ashoorkhana at Patherghatti.

They have been given 48 hours to ‘peacefully’ vacate the premises.

“Otherwise, stringent action will be initiated as per law,” warned Hyderabad Collector Navin Mittal.

The marching orders were given after Mr. Mittal visited the Ashoorkhana along with P. Chenna Reddy, Director, Archaeology and Museums and other revenue officials on Tuesday in response to the High Court’s directive.

Danam asked to continue as GHCC chief

Hyderabad, June 17: Health Minister Danam Nagender, who is the president of the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) president, has been asked to continue in the post till the elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations are conducted.

AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas said that Mr. Nagender had expressed his desire to quit the post consequent to his induction into the Cabinet. Stating that the elections to the GHMC had been taken as a prestige issue, Mr. Srinivas it was better that the Minister continue for some more time.

Golconda: Collector told to file counter

Hyderabad, June 17: A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Anil Ramesh Dave and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan on Tuesday directed the district Collector, Hyderabad, to file a counter-affidavit regarding the construction activity near Golconda fort.

This order was passed after the court was informed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and HMWSSB that they were not taking up any works around Golconda fort. The Bench was dealing with a miscellaneous petition filed by Forum For a Better Hyderabad and PUCAR.

Kuwait City, June 17: “Kuwaiti citizen announces the sale of his kidney” read the hand-written sign posted on a busy thoroughfare in the capital, which also noted the sellers blood type – O – and phone number.

In an unprecedented attempt to make money to pay back debts, Abu Mohamed placed a hand-written advertisement on the main road between the districts of Rakei and Ardiya., the Kuwaiti newspapers Assiyasah and al-Qabas reported Monday.

His reasons were purely financial, Mohamed told Al Arabiya, adding that he prefered to avoid the media limelight.

Three CPI(M) workers shot dead in West Midnapore

Kolkata, June 17: Three CPI(M) workers, including a local leader, were shot dead by unidentified assailants at Banksole in West Midanpore district on Wednesday.

The six motorcycle-borne assailants killed the three including CPI(M)’s Shimli branch secretary Amal Mahato when they were having tea at a shop after patrolling the forest in the night to guard against Maoist-backed tribal agitators.

RTC to issue free passes in colleges

Hyderabad, June 17: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is making arrangements to issue free bus passes to students on the doorstep of colleges. Passes will be issued in colleges located in the town on June 18, 19, 20 and 22, and in Cheepurupalli and Gajapathingaram regions on June 23, 24 and 25. Special teams were drafted for the purpose, said T.V.S. Sudhakar, Vizianagaram Depot Manager, at a press conference on Tuesday.
