Golconda: Collector told to file counter

Hyderabad, June 17: A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Anil Ramesh Dave and Justice Ramesh Ranganathan on Tuesday directed the district Collector, Hyderabad, to file a counter-affidavit regarding the construction activity near Golconda fort.

This order was passed after the court was informed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and HMWSSB that they were not taking up any works around Golconda fort. The Bench was dealing with a miscellaneous petition filed by Forum For a Better Hyderabad and PUCAR.

The main writ petition was filed complaining about the vandalism around the fort area in the name of a golf course.

In the current petition, they alleged that after the court restrained the Hyderabad Golf Course and the Tourism Development Corporation from taking up works in and around Golconda new construction works preceded by blasting of the base of fort walls had been taken up.

GHMC impleaded

The GHMC and HMWSSB were impleaded as party respondents and direction was sought to restrain them from taking up further work.

The counsel appearing for these organisations on Tuesday told the court that they were not concerned with the ongoing works. The Bench asked the Collector, Hyderabad district, to file counter-affidavit and adjourned the matter by two weeks.
