Danam asked to continue as GHCC chief

Hyderabad, June 17: Health Minister Danam Nagender, who is the president of the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC) president, has been asked to continue in the post till the elections to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations are conducted.

AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas said that Mr. Nagender had expressed his desire to quit the post consequent to his induction into the Cabinet. Stating that the elections to the GHMC had been taken as a prestige issue, Mr. Srinivas it was better that the Minister continue for some more time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Srinivas convened a meeting of the presidents of DCC of Medak and Ranga Reddy and the GHCC to discuss the preparation for GHMC elections some time later this year. He said the meeting decided to step up its activities and draw up a strategy to face elections and emerge victorious in majority of the 150 divisions.

Medak DCC chief Nandeeshwar Goud, Ranga Reddy unit chief K. M. Pratap and GHCC president were asked to coordinate the party activities and draw an action plan for the elections. The APCC chief told them that the situation was conducive in favour of the ruling party in the twin cities and its surrounding areas that fall under the GHMC limits.

He has convened a meeting of party MPs, MLAs and MLCs on June 26 to discuss the strategy for the GHMC polls.
