YSR’s policies have increased farmers worries: TDP

Hyderabad, September 19: Telugu Desam Farmers’ Cell president V Hanumantharaya Chowdhary on Saturday alleged that the former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy has increased the farmers’ problems as most of the schemes –‘Jalayagnam’ and ‘Meghamadanam’ (artificial rainfall using chemicals) launched during his tenure were involved in corruption and scams.

Talking to media persons at the NTR Trust Bhavan, Mr Chowdhary criticized the state government for adopting anti-farmer policies by not supplying adequate quantity of fertilizers to them.

Hyderabad, September 18: The busy and lively shopping street of Sultan Bazaar, with its rich heritage structures might vanish, once the works on the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project begins.

And its not just Sultan Bazaar, several heritage structures like the Assembly, Mozamjahi market and Public Gardens might be in danger because of the Metro.

Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Hyderabad Chapter has been crying foul that the project would spell doom for Hyderabad’s heritage if it was implemented according to the current plan.

OU plans to make students ready for placements

Hyderabad, September 18: Osmania University is undergoing a paradigm shift of sorts with introduction of industry-oriented and placement-specific administrative reforms. In the face of continuing agitations at the university, there is a hope that placement figures this year are going to improve as the season starts afresh. The varsity is already gearing up with a web portal dedicated to placements for wider accessibility.

The prototype of the portal will be ready and launched in a month’s time from November onwards.

OUJAC calls for bandh of colleges today

Hyderabad, September 18: The Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) today called for educational institutions’ bandh across the region tomorrow protesting against the lathicharge on Telangana advocates at the High Court.

“We express our solidarity with the protesting advocates who were fighting for their genuine demand of getting a fair share in the government posts,” OUJAC leader P Kailash said.

The OUJAC would also take a rally from the Arts College to the High Court to express their solidarity to the agitating advocates.

Police inspector misbehaves with girl student

Hyderabad, September 18: An inspector of Cyberabad commissionarate, while preventing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers, who tried to hoist the national flag on subregistrar’s office at Kushaiguda on the occasion of Telangana Liberation Day, allegedly misbehaved with a woman ABVP activist, a B Tech student today.

The incident sparked protests by the ABVP and BJP leaders and also women organisations prompting Cyberabad police commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy to transfer the inspector T Manohar Reddy. The inspector is likely to be suspended.

HC relents, eases entry curbs on lawyers

Hyderabad, September 18: A division bench of the AP High Court comprising Justice V Eshwaraiah and Naushad Ali on Friday partly altered its order issued yesterday regulating entry of people into the High Court. The bench has permitted senior counsels and junior lawyers to enter the court premises even if their cases are not on the cause list of the day.

The bench was hearing a suo moto petition on the need to issue directions to take steps to forthwith regulate entry of advocates and litigant public into the High Court premises.

AG’s office stands by its job figures

Hyderabad, September 18: The office of the Advocate General on Friday clarified that the facts and figures it gave on the percentage of lawyers in the government posts are correct. It refuted allegations by the Telangana Advocates JAC that the AG’s office gave false information.

The Advocate General’s Office also maintained that ‘an impression is sought to be created in certain sections that the information given by the office is factually incorrect. It is clarified that the information given is strictly in accordance with the records and based on the claims of the persons appointed’.

Yashki alleges conspiracy to dethrone Rosaiah

Hyderabad, September 18: Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yashki Goud today alleged that there is a conspiracy to defame chief minister K Rosaiah by those close to Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The people who were trying to make their leader (Jagan) as the chief minister since last one year, were conspiring to dethrone Rosaiah.

CPDCL staff attacked by local mob in Miralam

Hyderabad, September 18: A local mob of around 100 people, allegedly supported by public representatives from the Miralam area of the Old City, attacked on-duty CPDCL (Central Power Distribution Company Ltd) officials on Friday.

They also ransacked the customer service centre and destroyed the furniture.

Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy of the Andhra Pradesh High Court resigned late on Thursday night hours after Telangana advocates created a ruckus in his court room. But, suspense continued on Friday over whether he would withdraw his resignation even as Telangana lawyers showed no signs of toning down their protests seeking 42 per cent quota in judicial posts.

YSR’s brother-in-law goes into hiding

Kadapa. September 18 :Mayor and the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s brother-in-law P Ravindranath Reddy appears to have gone underground. Police named him as accused no 1 in the case relating to the illegal transport of fertilisers from his Balaji Fertilisers here, after examining the company records.

He has gone into “hiding” as soon as the police registered the case.

Fearing arrest any time, Ravindranath Reddy moved an anticipatory bail plea in the Kadapa District Court but it did not come up for hearing on Friday.

Thousands witness Lord Balaji car festival

Tirupati, September 18: Tens of thousands of devotees from across the country gathered here today to witness the car festival of the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara on the penultimate day of the nine-day ‘Brahamotsavam’.

The traditionally bedecked temple car with the ancient ‘utsav’ idols of Lord Venkateswara and his divine consorts, adorned with precious ornaments, was pulled by the devotees around the shrine at Tirumala near here.

The air on the sacred hills was charged with the devotional chantings, Vedic hymns and mantras by the priests and scholars who escorted the car.

Hyderabad, September 18: United Andhra Pradesh Congress MLAs and MLCs Forum has urged the government to take the opinion of the people of all regions before taking a decision on the demand of Telangana advocates.

Boulders roll down Durga ghat road again

Vijayawada, September 18: Several boulders rolled down the ghat road of Sri Kanakadurga temple on Indrakeeladri hills here this morning causing panic among the temple staff and devotees. However, no one was injured in the incident.

This is the third such incident this month. Though an iron mesh has been arranged to block the sliding of boulders, it is unable to prevent the landslides and is effective only in minimising the impact. The frequent landslides are causing concern among the temple officials who are finalising arrangements for Dasara, which is fast approaching.

Doctorate conferred on Purandeswari

Tirupati, September 18: SRI Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) today conferred an honorary doctorate on Union minister of state for human resource development D Purandeswari. The award was presented by governor ESL Narasimhan, who is also the chancellor of the university, at its 14th convocation here.

Purandeswari expressed happiness for receiving doctorate from SPMVV which was established by her father NT Rama Rao when he was chief minister for promoting higher education among women for their empowerment.”That is why this award is special to me,” she noted.

More rains likely in next 2 days

Hyderabad, September 18: Heavy rains occurred in many parts of coastal Andhra and Telangana regions today as the southwest monsoon was vigorous over both the regions.

Heavy rains are predicted in Telangana and coastal Andhra including twin cities in the next 48 hours due to the formation of a low pressure over Bay of Bengal.

S Venkateswara Rao, assistant meterologist, Hyderabad, told Express that the low pressure would intensify and under its influence more rains are likely in Telangana and coastal Andhra in the next two days.
