New Delhi, Dec 16: Grappling with the Andhra Pradesh crisis, the Congress was embarrassed inside and outside Parliament today when UPA partners questioned the government’s “hasty” decision on a separate Telangana and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, Congress MP and son of the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, joined a TDP demonstration in Lok Sabha, even borrowing a placard from them which read “We want united AP.”

New Delhi, Decamber 15: Breaking his silence on the Telangana issue, Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday said he stands for a united Andhra Pradesh and alleged that TDP and its chief N Chandrababu Naidu were responsible for the current situation in the state.

Jaganmohan, the son of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, also clarified that he was forced to exhibit his support for a united state in Lok Sabha today as he did not want “TDP alone to take the credit for supporting a unified Andhra.”

AP cabinet meets, resignation threat over, for now

Hyderabad, December 15: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today met for the first time since the announcement of a separate Telangana state was made and the resignation threat by ministers on the issue of division of the state has receded for now.

“There is no rebellion in the Cabinet. All the 33 ministers attended the official meeting of the Cabinet here today,” Information Minister J Geeta Reddy told reporters at the end of the meeting in the Secretariat.

Andhra in ferment, Congress calls for peace to ebb war within

New Delhi/Hyderabad, December 15: The war within the Congress party over the Telangana issue intensified Tuesday as unrest raged in Andhra Pradesh against the proposed division of the state. Under attack from its allies, the ruling party appealed for peace.

At a 90-minute meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), the Congress came in for criticism from some of its allies for taking the decision to split Andhra Pradesh without adequate consultation within the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), informed sources said.

Next step on Telangana issue after resolution in assembly: Congress

New Delhi, December 15: Formation of a separate Telangana could take a while with Congress today making it clear that any forward movement on it was possible only after the state assembly passes a resolution for it.

At the same time, the AICC also made it clear that it was not averse to the formation of a second State Reorganization Commission if there was a consensus on the issue.

“The Central government will take the next step only after the state assembly passes the resolution for Telangana and then Congress will support it,” Party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad told reporters here.

Centre out to curb calls for new states

New Delhi, December 15: The government has no intention of either imposing President’s Rule in Andhra Pradesh or setting up a second States Reorganisation Commission (SRC). The decision follows a sudden spurt in demands for new states and is aimed at putting an end to this trend.

No forward steps on Telangana without assembly nod: government

New Delhi, December 14: The government sought to cool tempers in Andhra Pradesh over the Telangana issue, saying there can be no forward movement on the statehood issue until the state assembly passes a resolution.

Protests in Vijayawada over MP’s arrest ahead of fast

Hyderabad, December 14: Protests continued in Rayalaseema and coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth day on Monday against bifurcation of the state.

Tension prevailed in Vijayawada and elsewhere in Krishna district after the arrest of Lok Sabha member L Rajagopal in Hyderabad. His followers took out rallies and staged sit-in across the city.

Some of them attempted suicide by pouring kerosene at the Congress’s office in the city but police intervened and took three of them into custody.

Political situation remain uncertain in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, December 14: The political crisis in Andhra Pradesh triggered by the Telangana issue showed no signs of easing on Sunday with four TDP leaders launching an indefinite fast opposing bifurcation of the state, even as ministers, who threatened to quit, maintained silence on their move.

Telugu Desam MLAs Devineni Umamaheswara Rao (Mylavaram) and Chinnam Ramakotaiah (Nuzividu), along with former Mayor of Vijayawada city Panchumarthi Anuradha and party leader B Umamaheswara Rao sat on the indefinite hunger strike in Vijayawada, the epicentre of the anti-Telangana protests.

Andhra heading towards constitutional crisis

Hyderabad, December 14: AP government that threatened to snowball into a constitutional crisis as well showed some signs of being defused with the ministers hailing from both the Telangana and also Andhra and Rayalaseema regions asserting tonight there was no threat to the Cabinet.

While the Telangana ministers asserted that there was no question of their quitting the Cabinet, the Andhra and Rayalaseema ministers who yesterday threatened to resign in protest against the proposed bifurcation of the state have almost decided to give up their plan.
