Protests in Vijayawada over MP’s arrest ahead of fast

Vijayawada, December 14: Normal life was paralysed in the city today by massive protests against the arrest of Lok Sabha member L Rajagopal in Hyderabad ahead of his proposed hunger strike to oppose the move to create a separate Telangana state.

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended its services while shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed.

Hundreds of passengers were stranded in Vijayawada and elsewhere in Krishna district due to suspension of bus services.

Condemning the arrest of Rajagopal, supporters of the Congress MP held protests across the city and in Krishna district.

The Vijayawada Lok Sabha member was to undertake an indefinite hunger strike in favour of a “united” Andhra Pradesh.
