Anti-Telangana ministers reconcile to division

Hyderabad, December 14: In the see-saw game for and against Telangana, ministers from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions appear to have reconciled themselves to the inevitability of the creation of a separate State. Their upbeat counterparts from Telangana have sent a letter to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi thanking her.

The leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema met Chief Minister K Rosaiah late in the night on Sunday and told him that they would not carry out their resignation threat. The volte-face is reportedly on account of the Congress high command’s resolve to carve out Telangana, though not immediately.

Meanwhile, 11 Ministers and 10 MPs from the Telangana region, after meeting at IT Minister K Venkata Reddy’s residence, conferred with Rosaiah for quite some time. Later, they said they were happy over the UPA’s decision on Telangana and called upon their Andhra and Rayalaseema counterparts not to stall the process of its formation.

Former minister and MLA from Telangana region R Damodar Reddy said they had faith that Sonia would create a separate State even if passing a resolution in the Assembly became difficult. ‘‘Even by passing a legislation in Parliament, she will ensure a separate State for us,’’ he said.

Nonetheless, the agitation against birfucation of the state continued in Andhra and Rayalaseema.

The political heat also rose after Vijayawada MP L Rajagopal’s statement in Delhi that he would arrive here on Monday to intensify the anti-Telangana stir.

However, the signs are clear that the agitation by MLAs from Andhra and Rayalseema is on the decline.

Former Minister and MLA J C Diwakar Reddy said all the MLAs supported Rosaiah’s government and felt there would be no Constitutional crisis and no President’s rule in Andhra Pradesh.
