Hyderabad, January 31: Due to lack of manpower and improper functioning of the IT wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), many owners of houses and commercial complexes who have paid their property tax are finding that their details have not been updated. Bill collectors knocking on the doors of house owners and commercial complexes are getting an earful from angry tax-payers.

Police unearthed six electric detonators on the Gadwal- Izha road during an overnight search operation in Gadwal and surrounding areas after anonymous calls regarding “land mines” on the minister’s route.

Karimnagar, January 31: A poverty-stricken woman put her one-year-old baby on sale at Tippapur in Vemulawada mandal. She even approached a broker for this purpose.

Kousalya married Sundaraiah in Pathipadu in Guntur district and they migrated to Sircilla in search of a livelihood about 7 years ago.

Sundaraiah died due to heart ailment, two months ago. Since then Kousalya has been working as a help in a tent house to take care of her three daughters, Usha (12), Ashwini (9) and Alekhya (1).

Sripada Sagar contractor gets undue benefit

Hyderabad, January 31: Suspecting collusion between some irrigation officials and contractors in taking up irrigation projects under the Jalayagnam programme, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has decided to shortly have an exclusive day-long meeting on subjects relating to EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) system, release of mobilisation advances in projects like Pranahitha- Chevella and Polavaram and abnormal delay in project works etc.

The PAC has found that an undue benefit of about `14 crores was made to the contractor of Sripada Sagar project.

AP man gets life for killing girl’s parents

Hyderabad, January 31: A youth was Monday sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Andhra Pradesh for murdering a couple and injuring their daughter because she had spurned his advances more than a year back.

A local court in Rajhamundry town sentenced M. Rajesh after holding him guilty of murdering the couple Sep 17, 2009.

Rajesh had stabbed to death N. Srinu, an autorickshaw driver, and his wife N. Satyavathi as they tried to save their 17-year-old daughter Anusha, who was being attacked by Rajesh.

Missing PG student’s skeleton found

Kadapa, January 31: A Skeleton was found in the semi-constructed administrative block of Yogi Vemana University late last night. It is suspected to be that of a postgraduate student of the university who had gone missing about two months ago.

The student seems to have committed suicide by consuming pesticide or sleeping pills as bottles of both were found near the body.

Anantapur, January 31: Chief minister N Kirankumar Reddy had a bitter experience at Garladinne in Anantapur district where he went to participate in Rachabanda programme today.

Right from the time he stepped out of the helecopter till he left the place, Jagan’s supporters and handloom weavers raised slogans against him. When he was addressing a public gathering, the protesters tried to disrupt his speech by raisng slogans ‘CM down down’ and demanded that he step down from the dais.

Teacher beats student, breaks his wrist

Vishakapatnam, January 31: In yet another case of corporal punishment, a mathematics teacher of Sri Saraswathi Vidya Vihar at Sriharipuram in the city beat up a Class X student and broke his left wrist as the student had failed to secure more than 80 per cent marks in the examination. The incident occurred on Thursday but came to light today after the police took the teacher into custody today.

Stalker burns girl to death

Rajhmundary, January 31: In yet another case of a stalker taking the life of an innocent victim, a 14-yearold eighth standard student Hema Madhuri in Vetlapalem village in Katernikona mandal in the district was burnt to death. Balram, the stalker poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze this evening. Madhuri received 80 per cent burns.

According to the police, Balram had been harassing the girl for the past several days. When Madhuri informed her parents, they theatened Balram that they would lodge a police complaint against him if he did not mend his ways.

Minister Aruna escapes attempt on her life

Mahabubnagar, January 31: Information Minister Ms. D K Aruna has escaped what looked like an attempt on her life.

An unidentified caller has told her over telephone on Saturday that there was a plan to kill her at Ija in the district. The minister reported the matter to the police. The police who sprung into action, found some explosives near Ijja. Police are trying to find the caller. They have found that the call came from a coin box in Peddakottapalli village in Kollapur constituency around 4 p m on Saturday.

Chief Minister showers gifts on Anantapur

Anantapur, January 31: Chief Minister Mr. N. Kirankumar Reddy has showered gift after gift on Anantapur district during his ‘Racha Banda’ programme at Garla Dinne in the district on Sunday.

Addressing people he has assured that a junior college for women and a hostel would be set up at Garla Dinne. He has also assured that a bridge from Penakacharla dam to Kattimala would be taken up soon after estimates were prepared. He has directed the officials to give priority to drinking water schemes and take them up.

Govt to re-conduct Racha Banda at places where obstructed: CM

Chittoor/Anantapur, January 31: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday stated that the government would re-conduct the Racha Banda, a programme to address grievances of people, at the places where it was obstructed.

Talking to media persons after participating in Racha Banda at Pileru, his home constituency for the first time, the Chief Minister said the programme has received wide response from all sections of people.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said the government has successfully conducted the programme in 7,450 out of 7,900 village sabhas.

Jagan visits Kutuhalamma

Chittoor, January 31: Former Kadapa MP Mr. Y S Jaganmohan Reddy has visited the Congress MLA Ms. G Kutuhalamma who is undergoing treatment in the Apollo Hospital here on Sunday. He has enquired about her health. He advised her to take rest and wished her speedy recovery.

Hyderabad, January 30: Textiles minister P Shankar Rao, who fumed at the state police yesterday for their ‘inaction’ in taking note of the threatening calls he received, today created a sensation by attacking his Cabinet colleagues for not responding to the criticism being made against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

“All the ministers who had worked in the previous YS Rajasekhara Reddy cabinet, should be sacked immediately. I will make a complaint to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Union home minister P Chidambaram,” he said.

Honey becomes dearer as production declines

Rajhmundary, January 30: With hundreds of beehives getting damaged during the recent rains and cyclone, honey has become scarce in the state. The shortage of ‘rock bee honey’ (raw honey) is also driving up the price with the price per kilogram now being Rs 500 up from Rs 250 earlier.

4 Suri murder suspects held, Bhanu remains free

Hyderabad, January 30: The Hyderabad police on Saturday paraded four men who allegedly had a hand in the murder of Anantapur factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri but said the main suspect, Mallishetty Bhanu Kiran, was still on the lam. Also, police chief A K Khan said the motive behind the murder continued to elude his detectives.

Almost a month after Suri was shot dead in the heart of the city, investigators have only managed to gather information on 100 benami properties allegedly acquired by Suri. These properties have now been frozen.

Rachabandha: Officials greeted with stones, eggs

Hyderabad, January 30: For the fifth consecutive day today, Rachabanda programme was obstructed by Telangana activists across the T-region.

The programme turned into a battle zone at Gudur in Kamalapurmandal and Peddapalli. TRS activists hurled stones, tomatoes and eggs at the officials while the police chased the agitators away.

Knowing about the incident, a large number of villagers came to the venue and chased away the police and officials.

TRS activists stalled the Rachabanda programme at Gurajala, Upparapalli and other villages in Warangal district.
