Wife commits suicide after killing husband in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, June 17: A heated argument led a 40-year-old woman to commit suicide by hanging herself after she killed her husband with a mallet here, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred Tuesday night in Shalimar Extension in Ghaziabad, police added.

Vimla got into an argument with her husband Ram Prakash Maurya, 45, when he refused

to accompany her for a walk. In a fit of rage Vimla picked up the mallet from the kitchen and banged it on her husband’s head, police said.

Dalit woman kills herself, two daughters

Lucknow, June 17: Deserted by her husband after her protracted illness, a Dalit woman set ablaze herself and her two minor daughters in an Uttar Pradesh village, police said Wednesday.

Reeta, 30, poured kerosene on herself and her two daughters, aged two and six, police inspector Chand Hussain told IANS.

The incident took place late Tuesday at Naseeruddin village of Azamgarh district, about 300-km from Lucknow.

Reeta was suffering from renal failure from the last several months and her husband left her when he came to know about her illness, Hussain said.

Murderers should be hanged: Slain businessman’s wife

Patna, June 17: Laxmi Singh, wife of Patna businessman Satyendra Singh whose decomposed body was found in the Ganges river last week, Wednesday demanded death penalty for prime accused Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Vijay Krishna and his son Chanakya.

‘They (Krishna and Chanakya) should be hanged till death. They deserve this punishment. They murdered my husband and made me a widow. They should not be given anything less than death penalty,’ Laxmi Singh told IANS here Wednesday.

Gunfight with bandits in UP continues, two policemen killed (Updated)

Lucknow, June 17: Two policemen were killed today in an ongoing gun battle with bandits in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot district taking the toll to three, police said. A commander of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and a police constable were killed today morning, a police officer said. A constable of the Special Operations Group was killed on Tuesday night.

The gunfight started after the Commando team of the Special Task Force reached Suruwal Rajapur village in Chitrakoot, 280 km from here, on a tip off that bandits, including wanted criminal Ghanshyam Kewat, were hiding there.

Two held for selling cricket bats with duplicate stickers in Jammu

Srinagar, June 17: Jammu police arrested two people for selling cricket bats by labeling stickers of branded companies in Hari Market area of the city, police sources here today said.

”On specific information, last night a raid was conducted in the shops selling Kashmir manufactured cricket bats by labeling the stickers of branded companies like Reebok, Addidas, SG, SS, Kookabora and others,” DSP Swatantar Arora, SDPO North told UNI.

Women passengers harassed in train

Sonepat, June 17 : A group of women today alleged that they were harassed by some policemen while travelling in a passenger train, officials said here.

Incensed over the incident, the women passengers stopped the train between Narela and Rathdhanna railway stations by pulling the emergency chain last night, they said.

The women alleged that three policemen from Delhi barged into the coach meant for women and manhandled them, they said.

They also alleged that the policemen molested some passengers who resisted their presence inside the reserved coach.

Trainee molested by senior at Juhu hotel

Mumbai, June 17: An 18-year-old trainee at a five-star hotel on Juhu Tara Road was molested by her senior on Sunday afternoon. The accused, Akram Mandal (27), has been arrested by the Santa Cruz police.

The victim, a hospitality management student at a Malad college, joined the Juhu hotel last month as part of her course.

The incident occurred on Sunday, when the housekeeping manager instructed her to clean room 202 on the second floor along with Mandal at 3.45 pm.

Mother, girl run over by train

Mumbai, June 17: A 25-year-old woman and her younger daughter, who was in her arms, died on the tracks near Koparkhairne on Tuesday morning while she was trying to save her elder daughter from going under the wheels of the train that ultimately ran over her.

Government Railway Police officials in Navi Mumbai said the accident occurred around 10.30 am on Tuesday, when Chandradevi Singh and her two daughters aged one and two-and-a-half years were crossing the tracks between Koparkhairne and Turbhe stations on the Harbour Line.

After Violence In Meerut Curfew Imposed

Meerut( U.P), June 17: Curfew was imposed in the city in the two hours on Wednesday after two groups of people clashed over parking of vehicles and pelted stones at the police which used batons to quell the mob.

Six persons were injured in the clash, police said. Paramilitary forces, including 200 personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been deployed in the city to bring the situation under control.

Boy dies as goal post collapses

Chennai, June 17: A playful Class VIII student died when a movable goal post fell on his head in the playground of a private school at Washermenpet here early on Tuesday.

According to police sources, S. Karthik (13) of New Washermenpet had gone to the K.C. Sankaralinga Nadar Higher Secondary School on G.A. Road around 6 a.m. with some of his friends to play.

Enquiries revealed that when Karthik was trying to swing from one of the bars of the goal post, the entire metal frame came down on him.

He bled profusely and lost consciousness almost instantly.

Kissing lands woman in jail

Abu Dhabi, June 17: Kissing is ecstatic but not always! A Bahraini woman has been jailed for 20 days for kissing a man in public.

According to the court papers, the couple was caught by a police patrol when they were getting intimate inside a car.

As the police attempted to arrest them for displaying ‘indecent behaviour in public’, the woman shouted at one of them, saying what she and the man were doing was “none of their business”. The woman was arrested and convicted of public indecency and insulting a policeman carrying out his duties.

Man attempts suicide demanding action against estranged wife

Rajkot, June 17: Nearly 10 days after a centenarian and his 60-member Thummar family staged a dharna to protest against the alleged harassment by their estranged daughter-in-law, the woman’s husband on Tuesday attempted suicide in Rajkot in public demanding action against his wife.

The Thummar family has also given a 24-hour ultimatum demanding action against Rekha, the wife of Shanitlal who attempted suicide on Tuesday.

“If no action is taken by the administration in 24-hours, we all will commit suicide,” said Suresh, Shantilal’s nephew.

Police find MMS clips of Surat gangrape

Surat, June 17: The police have found two MMS clippings of the gangrape of the minor school girl in Surat on Friday.

The two clippings are of Tariq and Abubakar; Tariq’s clipping is of 35 minutes duration while that of Abubakar is 12 minutes. The police said the three accused are proving to be habitual sex offenders during investigation. They are in crime branch’s custody under the 14-day remand.

Gangrape accused suspected in sex worker’s murder: Cops

Surat, June 17: Tariq Saiyed’s sketch matches with that of the accused in the murder of a Nepalese sex worker in January 2009

The Surat police are now investigating the role of one of the three accused — arrested in Friday’s gangrape incident — in connection with the murder of a sex worker on January 16 this year in the city.

The police have seized the mobile phones, laptop and a desktop computer of the trio and have found several MMSes that point to their being habitual sex offenders. They sought services of sex workers and filmed them in the act.

Machhian Khurd sarpanch booked for rape by UP Police

Ludhiana, June 17: A police team from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district has rounded up Machhian Khurd village sarpanch Rajinder Pal Singh on charges of rape and abduction.

Meanwhile, the panchayat members of this dusty village in Koomkalan police station near Khanna are crying foul alleging that the sarpanch has been falsely implicated in the case to settle political scores.

Cops nab armed men with Rs 12L booty

Panaji, June 17: In a scene that could have been scripted for a Bollywood movie, Goa Police on Tuesday chased and arrested four persons and
detained another, for armed daylight robbery at a flat in Santa Cruz.

Two were nabbed while running on the railway tracks at Margao railway station in a bid to escape the cops. Another was on the phone and the fourth attempted to flee on seeing his accomplices in trouble. The cash and jewellery they had stolen, amounting to Rs 12 lakh, was recovered from them.

Vishwanath Deshpande of Baner road for his alleged involvement in illegally sanctioning excess transfer of development rights (TDR) of land acquired by the civic body.

Deshpande will be produced in the ACB court on Wednesday.

Youth walks into school, strips before Class X girls

Kolkata, June 17: A youngster walked into an all-girls school in central Kolkata unchallenged on Monday morning, stripped naked and made indecent gestures at students in a classroom, and escaped without any of the staff attempting to stop him. Many girls fainted and others are still traumatized.

The authorities did not even bother to lodge a complaint with police. The incident has put the scanner on security in Kolkata’s schools.

China to Chennai is the new route for spurious medicines

Chennai, June 17: Close on the heels of Nigerian authorities unearthing Chinese-made drugs with fake ‘Made in India’ labels, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) here has stumbled upon a racket at Chennai port involving the use of fake labels and invoices to ship spurious Chinese drugs into Indian cities.

The central drug authority has so far traced three consignments of an antibiotic named roxithromycin, a female hormone called progesterone, and anti-ulcer drug cimetidine, which arrived from China in separate batches in the second, third and last week of May.

Squalls kill 12, heat conditions ease

New Delhi , June 16: Twelve people were killed in squalls and hailstorms in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh as heat wave conditions eased considerably in the Northern belt where day temperatures hovered below 40-degree Celsius mark at many places.

Rains drenched Punjab and Haryana cooling the region as mercury plummeted by two to 10 degrees Ccelsius bringing smiles on the faces of denizens.

Squalls and hailstorms claimed nine lives in Rajasthan and three in Uttar Pradesh and injured scores as mercury settled at bearable levels in the two states.

Mentally retarded minor girl raped in Delhi

New Delhi, June 16: A 13-year-old mentally retarded girl has been raped allegedly by a neighbour at her home in north Delhi, police said Tuesday.

Police said Shiv Kumar, 26, raped the girl at her Samaypur Badli house when her family members were sleeping late Friday.

“Shiv Kumar gaged her and threatened her to remain silent. When he left the house, the victim raised her voice and woke up her parents,” said a policeman.

The victim’s parents informed police, who took her to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where doctors confirmed rape.

Man murders brother, pregnant sister-in-law over land dispute

Lucknow, June 16: A man in an Uttar Pradesh village Tuesday killed three of his relatives, including his pregnant sister-in-law, over a land dispute, police said.

Ram Awtar barged into his brother’s home in Mankipurwa village in Kanpur Dehat (rural) district, and attacked his brother, his pregnant sister-in-law and nephew with an axe, killing all three, additional superintendent of police (Kanpur Dehat) Kamleshwari Devi told IANS over telephone.

An intensive search operation has been launched to arrest Awtar, who is absconding, she added.

Shiney Ahuja Used Force, Maid’s Test Reports

Mumbai,June 16: A medical examination of the domestic help who has accused actor Shiney Ahuja of rape has revealed that she may have been forced into
having vaginal intercourse. An X-ray test also revealed that she could be only 17 to 18 years of age.

After the maid lodged her complaint with the Oshiwara police on Sunday, the police sent both Ahuja and the victim for medical examinations at the Nagpada Police Hospital late on Sunday night.

One injured in tiffin box bomb explosion; 10 more recovered

Madurai, June 16 : A powerful bomb packed in a tiffin box exploded near a road bridge on the outskirts of the city, injuring one person, police said today.

A combing operation launched by the police after the explosion last night led to the recovery of 10 similar devices in the area.

Mahesh (24) found a tiffin box lying near the bridge when he went there to ease himself. After his attempts to open the box failed, he flung it on the ground following which it exploded, injuring him, police said.

Online Child Sex Abuse: US Mother In Court

Washington, June 16: US Mother In Court Enlarge photo Julie Carr was arrested on Friday after a tip-off from West Midlands Police about a video streamed online showing a woman performing sex acts on a child.

The 30-year-old from Mars Hill, Maine, has been charged with gross sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Her four children – believed to range from 18 months to five years old – were taken into protective custody.

Carr, who is being held in a jail on the Canadian border, did not enter a plea when she appeared in court on the video.
