After Violence In Meerut Curfew Imposed

Meerut( U.P), June 17: Curfew was imposed in the city in the two hours on Wednesday after two groups of people clashed over parking of vehicles and pelted stones at the police which used batons to quell the mob.

Six persons were injured in the clash, police said. Paramilitary forces, including 200 personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), have been deployed in the city to bring the situation under control.

The clash erupted after shopkeepers took objection to the parking of a tractor near the railway station and allegedly beat up the driver. When the police arrived at the spot, the two sides started pelting stones at the securitymen who used batons to disperse the mob.

District Magistrate Kamini Chauhan Ratan said the situation was under control.

Police said a high alert was sounded in Jallikoti, Railway Road, Ghantaghar, Khairnagar gate, Shabbir gate, Kotwali, Bhuniya Ka Pul, Nishari gate and Jamnagar areas.

Police have raided some houses and several persons were arrested.

UP Additional Director General of Police Brijlal said besides the RAF personnel, 400 jawans of PAC and 200 trainee constables were deployed.
