No intention of destabilising Andhra govt: Jagan

Krishna Water award: Coastal farmers cry foul

Vijayawada, January 01: The leaders of farmers’ organisations in coastal districts are seething with rage over the Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal award which, according to them, had denied whatever little water that trickles through the mighty Krishna river to AP.

The Krishna Delta Protection Committee has called upon people’s representatives to fight the injustice and ensure that the award is reviewed. According to Mandali Budha Prasad, former minister and member of the committee, an all-party meeting will soon be convened in Vijayawada to decide the future course of action.

Tirumal Rao becomes new Cyberabad CP

Hyderabad, January 01: IPS officer Ch Dwarka Tirumal Rao has been appointed as the new Cyberabad police commissioner. The state government today issued orders posting Tirumal Rao to the post and he took charge of his new assignment from the outgoing commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy, who retired from service today.

Though the new year began on a happy note for Tirumal Rao, Prabhakar Reddy, who was looking forward for his promotion as Additional DGP before calling it a day from service, was left unhappy as he retired as IGP itself.

At its board meeting here on Thursday, APIIC decided to initiate criminal proceedings against the company for defrauding it of an estimated Rs 500 crore.

Widow poisons children, kills self

Hyderabad, January 01: Depressed after her husband’s death and her poor financial condition, a 35-year-old woman committed suicide after giving poison-laced soft drink to her three children at Neredmet yesterday night. One of the children died along with her mother.

Neredmet police said that Jyothi (35), who has been under depression since her husband Srinivas died seven months ago, bought a soft drink for her three children — Meghana (14), Varshita (12), Nanda Kishore (10). But she poisoned it before making them drink it.

KU SJAC block Ponnala’s convoy, demand withdrawal of forces

Warangal, January 1: Demanding withdrawal of Central Paramilitary Forces from the Telangana region, activists of the Students Joint Action Committee of Kakatiya University on Friday obstructed the convoy of Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah at Aswaraopalli in Raghunathapalli mandal in the district.

Raising slogans against the State government and Centre, the students demanded that the government withdraw forces immediately from the Telangana region. The students also warned the government of serious consequences if it did not withdraw the forces immediately.

Telangana students plan massive rally on Jan 19

Hyderabad, December 31: IRRESPECTIVE of the Srikrishna Committee’s recommendations, the Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) has decided to launch a battle for statehood with a massive show of ‘student power’ in the city on January 19.

The TSJAC also gave a call to all public representatives from the region, irrespective of their party affiliation, to resign and join the Telangana movement should the committee report go against the aspirations of the people of the region.

Two officials held for graft

Hyderabad, December 31: Continuing to come down hard on ‘corrupt’ babus, AntiCorruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today cracked down on two government officials in the city and the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district and unearthed assets worth more than Rs 3.20 crores in documentary value alone. The market value of the assets would be more than Rs 8 crore, officials said.

ACB sleuths conducted raids on the Vanasthalipuram Hills residence of Alladi Laxminarayana, the assistant director of Institute of Preventive Medicine, Narayanguda around 6.20 a.m.

Telangana slogans disrupt convocation address

Hyderabad, December 31: The 34th annual convocation of the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), held on the campus here today, was marred by proTelangana slogans.

As soon as vice chancellor P Raghava Reddy began his convocation address, some students seated in the front row of the balcony began shouting ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans and interrupted his address. The students were rounded up and whisked out of the auditorium by the police.

Panels won’t give political advice to government

Hyderabad, December 31: BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha member M Venkaiah Naidu has demanded that the Congress-led UPA government take a political decision for creation of Telangana state without any further delay.

Addressing a news conference here today, the BJP leader said the Srikrishna Committee would not help the government to resolve the Telangana issue since it can be addressed only at the political level. The government should take a political decision by considering people’s wish and administrative convenience to ensure development of all the three regions of the state.

NIA shifts its office to Begumpet

Hyderabad, December 31: Virtually ‘caught’ in the midst of software firms and techies at the Raheja IT Park, the elite National Investigation Agency (NIA) has decided to move its field office to a more secure, hassle-free and accessible place and has zeroed in on Begumpet.

Co-brothers killed in road accident

Hyderabad, December 31: Two co-brothers died while their relative suffered injuries after the two wheeler in which they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree on the outskirts of the city today. The duo were coming to the city after attending the birthday party of one of the victims.
