Government asked to speed up on Indiramma houses

Hyderabad, January 04: Cities Civil Organisations Federation (CCOF) demanded the state government to complete construction works of all pending houses which were sanctioned to eligible candidates under the Indiramma Housing Scheme.

The CCOF state president T Sagar stated in a press release that they have submitted a representation to the Minister for Housing Kanna Lakshminarayana asking him to ensure the completion of the works soon.

All-party meet will be held before filing appeal

Hyderabad, January 04: The state government will convene an all-party meeting to discuss the implications of the verdict of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) before filing a review petition before the tribunal within the stipulated time of three months. The government does not want to take any hasty step to resolve the issue without examining all aspects of the issue carefully.

‘Centre has several aces up its sleeve’

Hyderabad, January 04: The report submitted by the Srikrishna Committee will only be one of the several information documents that the central government has on the Telangana issue and the committee will not make any recommendations but will mention people’s feelings and the prevailing circumstances in the state, state Congress president D Srinivas is learnt to have told his close aides.

Tenant farmers in state to get ID cards

Hyderabad, January 04: Revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said that tenant farmers in the state will be issued identity cards and issued instructions to officials to this effect.

The decision was taken at a review meeting called by the minister at his chambers where he conferred with officials of agriculture, revenue departments and bankers. The review meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister YS Vivekananda Reddy.

The decision was taken keeping in mind the heavy losses that the tenant farmers suffer in times of any natural calamity.

: Telangana Praja Front activists will organise a one-day hunger strike tomorrow at Indira Park here to protest against the proposed all-party meeting on Jan 6 at Delhi and the alleged delaying tactics of the Centre in delivering a separate Telangana state.

In a statement here today, front vicechairman M Veda Kumar said that the all-party meeting is clearly intended to confuse the issue and thus delay the formation of a separate state.

Hyderabad, January 04: Maddelacheruvu Suryanarayana Reddy hailed from Maddelacheruvu village in Kanaganipalle mandal in Anantapur district. His father Narayana Reddy was the MLA for Penukonda and had a running feud with Paritala Ravindra’s father Paritala Sriramulu.

Theirs was a contest of dominance and much blood flowed from the tit-for-tat killings. Sriramulu and his son Hari fell first and then Narayana Reddy himself in 1977. Upon the deaths of the patriarchs, Sriramulu and Narayana Reddy, the feud was bequeathed to their surviving sons.

Government will last full term: Raghuveera

Hyderabad, January 04: Revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy is confident that the Congress government will complete its fiveyear term before going for elections in 2014 and will come back to power once again due to its popularity among the poor and the needy.

Talking with reporters here today along with his cabinet colleagues D Sridhar Babu and DK Aruna, he said that there was no immediate threat to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government and ruled out the possibility of midterm elections as predicted by former MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

Maha Simhagarjana on February 13

Khammam, January 04: Manya Seema is getting ready to organise Maha Simhagarjana at the junior college grounds in Bhadrachalam on February 13 demanding creation of separate state for tribals.

Speaking to Express over phone from Manugur today, committee state convener Chanda Lingaiah said creation of a separate tribal state was a long pending demand. Over 1.5 lakh tribals from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Maharashtra and Jharkhand would be mobilised for Maha Simhagarjana. Many tribal leaders from the five states would attend the meeting.

Maoists’s arms dump seized in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, January 04: Police on Tuesday unearthed an arms dump of the banned CPI (Maoist) in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh and recovered a large quantity of explosives, a senior police officer said.

Based on the information provided by some villagers the police carried out searches in a forest area under Mailapadu mandal in the early hours of morning and recovered 40 grenades, 8 mines and other materials used for making landmines, Srikakulam District Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain told PTI.

Further investigation is underway, he said.

Pocharam to quit TDP for TRS

Banswada, January 4: The TDP MLA, Mr Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, has decided to quit the party and join the TRS to join the fight for Telangana.

Talking to mediapersons after a meeting of his supporters, Mr Reddy said that they have said that he should join a party that was actively fighting for the Telangana cause. He said that he was constrained to accept the overwhelming opinion of his supporters. He would inform the TDP chief of his decision after going to Hyderabad, he added.

Jagan to Hold One-Day Fast in Delhi on Jan 11

Visakhapatnam, January 04: Former Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy today said he would undertake a one-day fast in Delhi on January 11 to highlight the sufferings of farmers of Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan, who resumed his ‘Odarpu yatra’ in Visakhapatnam district today, announced that he would hold the fast in Delhi along with the MLAs and MPs who are ready to support him.

He demanded that the Centre come to the rescue of farmers who suffered heavy losses due to frequent heavy rains and cyclones.

Maoists kill kin of former Naxal

Karimnagar, January 03: Exactly after a month’s gap, Maoists made their presence felt by killing a youth, Gouthu Lachaiah (25), who is also a relative of former Naxalite, in the eastern division of Karimnagar district. The incident took place in Sarvaipet village in Mahadevpur mandal last night but it came to light on Sunday. According to local reports, about 40-50 Maoists descended on the village on Saturday night. Actually, they wanted to meet Kummari Babu Rao, who earlier worked with Praja Pratighatana group in Bakkanna dalam.

Jagan aides’ houses raided for gun licence

Kadapa, January 03: Police raided the houses of D Sivashankar Reddy, vice-chairman of DCMS and D Krishna, both close associates of former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy, in Pulivendula today.

The police said the raids were conducted to verify whether Sivashankar Reddy and Krishna, had renewed their gun licences. Considering that normally such a verification is done by the DSP rank official or by ringing up to the license-holder or by calling him to the DSP’s office along with his license, the raids, out of the procedure, have raised eyebrows.

Objection against playing film songs before a mosque, 10 hurt

Bodhan, January 3: some Muslims youth expressed resentment when a youth belonging to majority community was hearing film songs in a mobile before a mosque at the time of Isha prayers. It created some arguments however the matter was put to rest after some time.

After a while a gang of majority community armed with lathis gathered before the mosque and started attacking Muslims passersby. 10 persons were assaulted in the attack among those two youth were severely injured.

Warangal, January 3: Warangal MP Sircilla Rajaiah on Sunday called upon leaders to come out with details of those ‘traitors of Telangana’, who are working against the formation of a separate state.

Guntur, January 3: Former chief minister Rosaiah on Sunday said that package allotted to rain-hit farmers by the state government is adequate, even while maintaining that the losses suffered by the farmers due to successive natural calamities can never be mitigated.

Petitioners blamed for rise in pending cases before SHRC

Guntur, January 3: Acting Chairman of the State Human Rights Commission Justice Kakumanu Peda Peri Reddy on Sunday said that the petitioners were partly to be blamed for the rise in number of pending cases since they were not cooperating with the SHRC in disposing off the cases.

Talking to media persons after participating in a programme, Justice Reddy said the petitioners, who have approached the Commission seeking justice, were not providing proper evidence to back their accusations.

Former naxalite gunned down in AP

Karimnagar, January 02: A former naxalite was gunned down by two Maoists at Sarvaipet village near here after they suspected him to be a police informer, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place last night, under Mahadevpur police limits, nearly 90 kms from here, they said.

The naxal-duo forcibly entered the house of Bautu Laxmaiah (25) in the village and took him to the outskirts and shot him dead.

Laxmaiah had surrendered before the police in 2006.

11 killed in separate road accidents in AP

Hyderabad, January 02: Eleven persons, including two engineering students, died in separate road accidents in Andhra Pradesh today, police said.

Four persons, including a woman, were killed and two others injured after a speeding lorry hit the auto-rickshaw, in which they were travelling, from the rear-side on Gajwel-Pragnyapur route in Medak district at around 3:30 PM, they said.
