Two more join opposition to women’s quota bill

New Delhi, June 09: After Sharad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav, another Yadav leader, Lalu Prasad, today added his opposition to the women’s reservation bill, terming it as a conspiracy against regional parties to keep their leaders away from power.

Rebel Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh too termed the bill, which proposes to reserve 33 percent seats in parliament and the state legislatures for women, as a conspiracy against regional parties.

Congress Could Go Alone in Maharashtra: Deshmukh

Mumbai, June 09: In yet another indication of further widening of the rift between Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), senior Congress leader and union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Tuesday retreated that his party should go to polls alone in the state in the upcoming Assembly polls.

Deshmukh’s, who was formerly the CM of the state, remarks came in the wake of a controversy over the arrest of NCP MP Padamsinh Patil accused in the murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar.

Los Angeles, June 09: Bollywood’s very own sex symbol, Mallika Sherawat has taken Los Angeles’ party circuit by storm and now R&B superstar Usher has decided to dedicate one of his songs to the glamorous actress.
Sherawat who is in Los Angeles working on her first Hollywood venture ‘Hisss’ met the Grammy winning singer at a local eatery and found him very handsome.

INDIAN FISH CURRY RECIPE

Ingredients:

250 gms fish washed, sliced
1 cup coriander leaves chopped
2 tomatoes finely chopped
8 cloves garlic
2 green chillies chopped
1 tsp methi seeds
1 tsp coriander powder
A pinch turmeric powder
Salt To Taste
oil as required.

Preparation:

Marinate the fish in salt and turmeric powder for 15 minutes.
Shallow fry the fish pieces, drain and keep aside.
Grind the coriander leaves, garlic and green chillies.
Heat oil, add masala paste and fry till the oil separates out.

FISH PAKORA

Ingredients:

4 white fish fillets (steamed and cut into pieces)
2 eggs
A large pinch of salt
A pinch of red chili powder
2 tbsp corn flour
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
Oil for deep-frying paoda

Preparation:

Beat the eggs, salt, chili powder, lemon juice and coriander leaves together to make a batter. Add corn flour and mix well to form a smooth batter.
Heat oil in a kadhai or deep-frying pan.
Dip each fish piece into the batter and fry in batches till golden and crisp all over.
Serve the fish pakora hot with your favorite chutney or ketchup.

MACHHI KA SALAN

Ingredients:

500 gms fish cut into slices
1 coconut grated
2 tsp til
2 tsp dhania powder
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp jeera
2 tsp khus khus
1/2 tsp haldi
2 tsp chilli powder
2 green chilies
3-4 tbsp oil
1 onion sliced fine
few curry leaves
lemon size tamarind
salt to taste

Preparation:
To make Masala grind the til, dhania, jeera, mustard, khus khus, 1 tbsp grated coconut, chili powder, haldi garlic and 1 onion to a fine paste.
Extract 2 cups milk from the grated coconut. Extract the pulp from the tamarind soaked in 1 cup of water.

Policeman arrested in Kashmir for ‘raping’ minor

Srinagar, June 09: A policeman was arrested Monday for his alleged involvement in the rape of a minor girl in a north Kashmir village, police said.

Nazir Ahmed, a constable of an Indian Reserve Police (IRP) battalion, is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in the Poshpora village near Tangmarg, 45 km from here.

Ahmed was a personal security guard of legislator Ghulam Hassan Mir in Tangmarg but was transferred two days ago.

He was taken into custody after protests in Tangmarg, a police officer said.

MCA student ends life after being ragged by seniors

Warangal, June 09: Fed up with the “ragging” by his seniors at an engineering college, a 22-year-old MCA student committed suicide here, police said Tuesday.

Devender Kumar, a second-year student of Vasavi Engineering College, Ibrahimpatnam in Hyderabad, ended his life by jumping before a running train near Dharamaram village here yesterday, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Warangal town, Venkateshwar Rao said.

A suicide note found from Kumar’s pocket said that he was taking the extreme step as he was finding it difficult to put up with the ragging by his seniors, Rao said.

TRS chief to hold talks with senior party leaders

Hyderabad, June 09: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president T Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to make efforts to contain persisting dissidence in his party which broke out in the wake of the debacle in recent elections.

The TRS President, against whom a police case has been registered in his Lok Sabha constituency of Mahaboobnagar for tracing his whereabouts, arrived here last night from Delhi.

Rao is expected to hold confabulations with senior party leaders on ways to revive the party in the aftermath of the drubbing it suffered in the elections.

FBI Informants in US mosques

Washington, June 09: FBI Director Robert Mueller on Monday defended the agency’s use of informants within U.S. mosques, despite complaints from Muslim organizations that worshippers and clerics are being targeted instead of possible terrorists.

Mueller’s comments came just days after a Michigan Muslim organization asked the Justice Department to investigate complaints that the FBI is asking the faithful to spy on Islamic leaders and worshippers. Similar alarm followed the disclosure earlier this year that the FBI planted a spy in Southern California mosques.

Advani cautions first-time MPs against temptations

New Delhi, June 09: Senior BJP leader L K Advani Tuesday cautioned the party’s newly-elected MPs against falling to any “temptation” and asked them to maintain “purity in conduct”.

Addressing the BJP parliamentary party meet here, Advani asked the 58 first-time MPs to maintain “purity in their conduct”.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha also cautioned them against falling to any kind of “temptation” offered to them.

Nadendla is deputy speaker of Andhra assembly

Hyderabad, June 09: Nadendla Manohar of the ruling Congress party was today unanimously elected as deputy speaker of Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly.

Manohar, son of former chief minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, represents Tenali constituency in Guntur district.

Manohar, a two-time legislator, was among the panel speakers in the last assembly and was also chairman of the assembly library committee. He is an economics graduate and did his MBA in marketing.

Since he was the only one to file nomination for the post, the speaker announced his election unopposed.

Deepika to do item number in Telugu movie

Hyderabad, June 09: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is set to shoot an item number for a Telugu film titled “Love 4 Ever”.

“Deepika has agreed to shoot an item number for the forthcoming venture ‘Love 4 Ever’ from June 24 onwards – her first in Telugu,” a publicist told media.

Starring Ranadeep and Mridula, “Love 4 Ever” is being made in Hindi and Telugu and Jayant C. Paranji is wielding the megaphone for it. Laughing Waters Entertainment is producing the film.

Jammu & Kashmir: 15 wounded in firing, teargassing

Srinagar, June 09: At least 15 persons were injured, five of them seriously, in firing and tear smoke shelling by the police and paramilitary troopers in the south Kashmir district of Shopian Monday.

In Sofan Naman, CRPF troopers opened fire on a peaceful procession injuring four persons, one of them critically. One more protestor was injured critically at Rang Kadal when a tear gas shell hit him on his head.

11 swine flu cases, government says don’t panic

India on Monday reported one more swine flu case in Hyderabad, taking to 7 the number of those affected by influenza A (H1N1) and 11 in India. Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said there was no need to panic as all precautions had been taken against the spread of the virus.

A health official said one more swine flu case had been reported in Delhi on Monday.

A 35-year-old man, who tested positive for influenza A (H1N1) and is being treated, transmitted the virus to his mother – making it the first human-to-human transmission case in the national capital, the official said.

Habib Tanvir makes his final exit

Mumbai, June 09: One of India’s greatest dramatists, Habib Tanvir, died on Monday at the age of 85. He died of pneumonia and pulmonary complications.

A patrician figure inseparable from his pipe, Tanvir was revered by theatre wallahs for creating a new theatrical language that married contemporary drama with folk performance and elevating folk forms to international attention.
