Islamist militia ‘Dawn of Libya’ secures US Embassy in Tripoli

An Islamist militia, Dawn of Libya, has taken control of the US Embassy in Libyan capital Tripoli and posted a video online, while the US officials said they are seeking details of it.

“We’ve seen the reports and videos and are seeking additional details. At this point, we believe the Embassy compound itself remains secure but we continue to monitor the situation on the ground, which remains very fluid,” a Senior State Department official said here.

No white flag if Pak ceasefire violations continue: Rajnath

Asserting that India wants peaceful relations with all countries but it should not be treated as its weakness, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said security forces have been directed to give a “befitting” reply to ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

Referring to recent incidents of firing from across the Line of Control, the Home Minister said he has directed BSF “not to keep showing white flag” if the violations by Pakistan continue.

Modi visits school, seeks help in Japanese language teaching

Keen to upgrade the educational standards in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited a 136-year-old school here as a “student” to understand the academic system of Japan which could be replicated back home.

He also invited teachers from here to teach Japanese language in India and proposed online courses amid his pitch for enhanced cooperation in languages and social values among the Asian countries to make the 21st Century truly that of Asia.

Modi wants Japanese language teaching in Indian schools

While stressing on building language ties between the two nations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday called on Japanese teachers to impart their language skills to Indian learners.

Modi was speaking in an interactive session at the Taimei Elementary School here Monday morning as he began his second full day of the five-day trip to Japan.

“We are trying to teach Japanese language in our schools. We need teachers for that. I invite you all to come to India and teach,” Modi said in a tweet posted on a PMO account.

Australian unemployment rate worst in 40 years

More than 15 percent of the Australians are unemployed, the highest level in nearly 40 years, a new research released Monday revealed.

A study from the Brotherhood of St. Laurence welfare group has found more than 300,000 young Australians have casual or part-time jobs but want either more work or full-time positions, Xinhua reported.

The group’s spokesman, Tony Nicholson, said that the figure combined with those who are officially unemployed adds up to more than 580,000 young people.

More US air strikes on IS in Iraq

US forces continued their attack on Islamic State (IS) militants in northern Iraq with two more air strikes conducted Sunday, the army said.

The two air strikes carried out by fighter jets include one near the Mosul Dam, and the other near the town of Amerli, home to thousands of Shia Turkomen minority people, Xinhua quoted a statement by US Army’s Central Command as saying.

The residents of Amerli have been cut off from receiving food, water, and medical supplies for two months by the IS forces.

Plea to improve the efficiency of FM radio’s Urdu broadcasts

Mr. Naveed Iqbal, TRS leader handed over a memorandum to Ms. K. Kavita, MP of Nizamabad requested her to use her good offices for the improvement of Urdu broadcasts of FM radio. It was stated in the memorandum that FM radio station was started in 1994 but so far no Urdu program has been broadcast. She assured that she would take steps in this regard.

Police, protestors battle in Islamabad as Pak army chief meets corps commanders

Protestors led by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri clashed with the police as they marched to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s residence, demanding his resignation.

According to reports, hundreds were left injured as the police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

China, Russia to start joint gas pipeline construction

China and Russia are all set to start construction of a joint natural gas pipeline in Russia’s eastern Siberia this weekend, implementing a natural gas supply contract signed between the two countries.

According to a contract signed under the witness of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin during their Shanghai meeting in May, the pipeline will transmit 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year to China over a period of 30 years starting from 2018.

Battling terrorism major challenge for Syria: president

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Sunday said that battling terrorism was a major challenge for the new government, media reported.

Assad made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the newly-formed government Sunday, in which the president hailed the Syrian forces’ patriotism and their remarkable achievements, Xinhua reported citing the state-run SANA news agency.

The president also stressed that fighting terrorism must go along with achieving national reconciliation, which is being implemented by the Syrian army and the rebels in many areas.

Israel calls for regional support to disarm, rebuild Gaza

Israel’s finance minister Sunday called on international leaders to hold a regional summit focused on demilitarising and reconstructing the devastated Gaza Strip.

Finance Minister Yair Lapid, however, added that Gaza’s reconstruction should be conditional on whether or not Hamas is demilitarised to ensure Israel achieves its diplomatic goals, Xinhua reported.

“We had major military achievements and have now moved to the diplomatic front,” Yair Lapid told reporters in Jerusalem.

42 children dead in Syrian air strikes

At least 42 children have been killed in ‘barrel bomb’ explosions in Syria over the past 36 hours, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Sunday.

Syrian air crafts have dropped dozens of ‘barrel bombs’ in several areas of the country, many of them in northern Syria, areas that includes Al Raqqa, the capital of the same-named province, as well as the towns of Binsh, Al Abit, Khan Shaykhun, Saraqib and province of Aleppo.

Others died in attacks on the city of Dael, and the towns of Mohasan, Al Rastan and Al Houla.

Amit Shah in Kerala as BJP struggles to find foothold in state

With BJP consistently failing to make electoral breakthrough in Kerala, party chief Amit Shah on Sunday started his maiden visit to the southern state to discuss with leaders and grassroots functionaries strategy to strengthen and galvanise the organisation.

Shah will attend a meet of state office bearers tomorrow morning and address a larger convention of over 6000 party functionaries, party sources said.
