Lucknow Muslim clerics join Hindu seers in campaign to save Ganga

Muslim religious leaders have now come forward to extend a helping hand to sadhus and seers who are campaigning for conservation of River Ganga. Maulana Saeedur Rehman, principal of Centre of Islamic studies, said that it is well known that Ganga is associated with the faith of Hindus but
it is not any less important for Muslims.

Terming the drive to clean the river as a “holy campaign”, Rehman said that he would not only extend support to it but would do whatever was required in achieving it.

Symposium on Assam today

(Siasat News)Human Welfare Foundation of A.P. is conducting a symposium at 11 a.m. today at Madina Education Center, Nampally, Hyderabad on the present situation of Assam. This symposium is being organized keeping in view the false propaganda of the communal elements that these Muslims in Assam are the Bangladeshi infiltrators and they are not the Indian nationals. Under this pretext, Bodos are killing the Muslims in Assam.

Four girls Kidnapped from Rescue Home

(Siasat News)Four girls from the Rescue Home located at Uppal were kidnapped last night. Agitated with this incident, many women attacked this center and demanded the Govt. to shift it to some other place.

It is said that such of the girls who are rescued by the police from prostitution are kept in this center.

16 killed in terror attack in Afghanistan

Armed men opened indiscriminate fire and killed 16 civilians on Sunday in northern Afghanistan to avenge a Taliban attack, Xinhua reports.

The attack took place in Kanam area of Kunduz city.

A witness said a group led by a man named Qadir carried out the attack in retaliation as Taliban militants killed one of his men late Saturday.

Police said several people went missing after the attack.

Moderate earthquake jolts eastern Iran

Iran’s state news agency says a 5.2-magnitude earthquake has jolted a sparsely populated district in the country’s east.

IRNA says the quake hit a district near the town of Qaen before dawn on Sunday and that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Last month, twin earthquakes struck northwestern Iran and claimed the lives of more than 300 people, injured thousands and left several thousand homeless.

Iran is located on seismic faults and is frequently shaken by earthquakes.

Earthquake in Pakistan; child hurt

A child was injured when the roof of a house collapsed after a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Pakistan on Sunday, Xinhua reported.

The earthquake was felt in Sibi city in Balochistan province, officials said.

Bodo conflict in Assam turned into Bodo-Muslim fight-Ilyas Shamsi

Mr.Ilyas Shamsi, member of All India Milli Council in press statement mentioned that the recent communal riots in Assam have raised many questions. The arrguments of citizens and non-citizens have become the topics for discussions by various political and social organizations.
It has not been clear whether these disturbances are ethnic cleansing measures or communal riots in nature.
Taking advantage of these, communal parties are making a comparison of these disturbances with the communal riots of 1983 and 2002.

Four women kidnapped from rescue home in Hyderabad

Unidentified men attacked a rescue home and kidnapped four trafficked women at Ramanthapur area here early Saturday, police said.

A group of eight men barged into ‘Ujjawala’ rescue home after breaking open the doors and took away four women after beating up the inmates and damaging the furniture.

The other inmates of the rescue home, run by the state government with the support of an NGO, told police that two of the women were from Kolkata, one Bangladeshi and another from Mumbai.

Wives of Indian sailors thank Pakistan

The wives of two Indian sailors freed by Somali pirates have thanked Pakistan for its role in negotiating their husbands’ release, the Dawn reported Sunday.

Madhu Sharma and Sampa Arya met two senior Pakistanis in Karachi Saturday, the daily reported.

The wives of Indian sailors M.V. Sharma and Ravendra Gulia met Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan and Citizen-Police Liaison Committee chief Ahmed Chinoy.

Demand to make Urdu Academy employee’s permanent

Dr.K.Narayana, Secretary, CPI demanded the C.M of A.P Mr.Kiran Kumar Reddy by writing a letter to him to regularize the services of the employees of Urdu Academy, its libraries and its computer centers.

He told that these employees have been working in Urdu Academy for the past 15-20 years on contract basis.

Even the principle of minimum wages is not being implemented in respect of them. The management’s share of employees provident fund has also not been paid.

No special quota for Hajj aspirants: chairman Hajj committee

Chairman Andhra Pradesh State Hajj Committee, Mr. Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed in a statement told that most of the people who have not been selected through lot for Hajj 2012 or whose name didn’t come under waiting list, want to get seat under special quota by contacting various bigwigs. But it must be noted that this year the Supreme Court has scrapped special quota. As per the judgment there will not be any special quota for Hajj aspirants.

US Open: Sania-Bethanie in third round

Indo-American pair of Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands moved into the women’s doubles third round of the US Open here at the Flushing Meadows.

Sania-Bethanie, seeded 13th, defeated the unseeded Croat-Hungarian pair of Darija Jurak and Katalin Marosi 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 39 minutes Saturday.

The Indo-American pair broke their opponents four times, twice in each set, to earn a straight sets victory.

Missing Rajasthan girl found, raped by abductors for 2 months

A girl from Alwar village in Rajasthan, who had been missing for past two months, has been found and was allegedly repeatedly raped and tortured by her two abductors, police said on Saturday.

The girl was abducted on June 23 by two youths from her village soon after she arrived here with a group of women for pilgrimage at Govardhan, they said.

FIIs invest about 11K cr in Aug, highest in 6 mths

Overseas investors pumped in close to Rs 11,000 crore in the Indian stock market in August – highest in six months – amid hopes of government initiatives on policy reforms and easing of monetary policy globally.

Thus, FII investment in the country’s equity market has reached Rs 63,070 crore so far this year, and Rs 24,518 crore in the debt market during the same period.

Separate AMU union for girls

Girls in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will now have a union of their own.

AMU vice chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah said the university will have two separate student unions — one for boys and another for girls.

Gen Shah said the AMU Women’s College has traditionally had a separate students union for girls.

Once this was done away this, it led to cases of indiscipline, with members of the AMU Students Union barging into the Women’s College at odd hours.

The lady teachers of AMU are also keen on a separate staff association, it is learnt.

Market value of top 8 cos dips Rs 30k cr; ONGC biggest loser

Led by state-owned energy major ONGC, the combined market capitalisation (m-cap) of top eight Sensex companies fell by Rs 30,004 crore last week.

TCS and ITC, however, saw rise in their market value.

RIL, ONGC, CIL, HDFC Bank, NTPC, Infosys, SBI and HUL, on the other hand, witnessed losses in a weak market during the week amid damp investor sentiment.

The BSE 30- scrip index, Sensex, fell about 2 percent during the trading week ended on Friday.

ONGC’s market cap slipped Rs 9,369 crore to Rs 2,36,259 crore. The company’s share price declined 3.81 percent during the week.

Have called off talks with Pak govt: Taliban commander

Senior Pakistani Taliban commander Maulvi Faqir has said that his faction has called off talks with the government for “playing tricks” with the militants.

“The government contacted me and some other Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan leaders through intermediaries several times but the contacts were suspended because government officials were not serious,” Faqir told PTI by phone from an undisclosed location.

“The Pakistani government is not independent in taking decisions as it is under US pressure. No one can refuse talks but the government has always tricked us,” he said.

‘Sectarian violence might break Pakistan’

Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday expressed serious concern over the ongoing sectarian violence in the country, warning that it could lead to the breakup of Pakistan.

“If people are not provided protection, Pakistan will break into pieces. Christian, Barelvis, and Shias’ will demand a separate state for themselves,” warned London-based Hussain.

His comments came at a conference organised to promote harmony between different sects of Islam and other faiths.

‘US special forces suspend training of Afghans’

In the wake of increasing insider attacks on NATO soldiers in Afghanistan, the commander of US special forces has suspended training for all new Afghan recruits until probe into their ties to insurgents is completed.

“We have a very good vetting process,” a senior Special Operations official told The Washington Post. “What we learnt is that you just can’t take it for granted. We probably should have had a mechanism to follow up with recruits from the beginning.”
