Bodo conflict in Assam turned into Bodo-Muslim fight-Ilyas Shamsi

Mr.Ilyas Shamsi, member of All India Milli Council in press statement mentioned that the recent communal riots in Assam have raised many questions. The arrguments of citizens and non-citizens have become the topics for discussions by various political and social organizations.
It has not been clear whether these disturbances are ethnic cleansing measures or communal riots in nature.
Taking advantage of these, communal parties are making a comparison of these disturbances with the communal riots of 1983 and 2002.

In order to understand the cause of these communal riots, one has to keep himself abreast of the communal tensions before 1947.

In a section of society, attempts are being made to make believe that right from the formation of Bangladesh, non-Mulkis intrude India. This is the reason that Assam is burning today and this is the root cause of these communal riots whereas the history of Assam asys that there has been a migration of the people from one state to another state which has been a routine process.

Examples of this nature are the recruitment of Gorkhas in Indian Army, acquiring the help of Biharis and Bengali’s to work in tea plantations of Assam.

If Assam is categorized on the basis of religion, it will be noticed that the Hindus of Assam had a status of their own. They were treated as respectable persons.

The Muslims of Assam were agriculturist and landlords. Assam needed both these sections in its society.

These days, Hindu Fundamentalist Organizations created misunderstanding twisting the facts by creating the fear of “Muslims grow more”. They are indulging in treating the Muslims of Assam as non-Indians.

If the root cause of the differences are traced out., It will be known that initially the difference were generated between the Assamese and the Hindus of Bengal. The reason for this was introduction of Bengali Language in school and use of Bengali as the medium of instruction in educational institutions. The elites of Assam started considering it as their humiliation. They began to feel that their identity is being vanished by introducing Bengali as the medium of institution in schools.

This resulted in conflicts between the Bengali Hindus and the Assamese.

As a result of the conflict of Assamse, non-Assamese, Bodos;Tribals and Rajvanshis, Assamese was accepted as the medium of instruction in schools. In this way, these conflicts were resolved to some extent. The communal elements try to make mulki issue from time to time to make their presence felt. The communal riots occurred recently in Assam have roots in these conflicts.

The conflict between Bodo and non-Bodo is being converted into Bodo versus Muslims fight.

No one can deny that R.S.S is implementing its policy and it has been implementing the policy of the genocide of the Muslims in every ten years. The demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, Muslims genocide in Gujarat in 2002 and ethic cleansing of the Muslims in Assam in 2002 could be the components of its policy.

Exodus of people from one place to another by spreading rumours, feeding people at railway stations, have been the strategies of fulfilling the objectives of the political matters of R.S.S.

The need of the hour today is Dalith Muslim unity and through it only Hindu communalism could be combted in every city and in the entire country at a larger scale.
