Loss of a child ups mother`s risk of early death

Losing a child is quite devastating for any parent, but the bereavement could send a mother`s risk of an early death soaring, a new research has claimed.

A team of US researchers found that there was a 133 per cent increase in the risk of a mother dying in the two years following the loss of a son or daughter.

The researchers, led by William Evans of the University of Notre Dame and Javier Espinosa of the Rochester Institute of Technology, studied 69,224 mothers aged 20 to 50 for nine years, tracking the mortality of children even after they had left home.

Scientists claim to have found a new way of injecting oxygen into the blood to keep people alive even when they can`t breathe during complex operations, a breakthrough they say could help doctors carry out critical surgeries.

The procedure, which works by injecting oxygen molecules enclosed in fatty molecules directly into the bloodstream, could give people an extra 30 minutes of life when they cannot breathe, the researchers said.

`Once-a-week pill may make HIV treatment more effective`

A new once-a-day pill which combines four HIV drugs into a single treatment has been found safe and effective, a new study has claimed, raising hopes of millions affected by the deadly virus worldwide.

Clinical trials showed that the new “Quad” pill was fast in acting and has fewer side-effects compared to two widely- used drug regimens.

HIV sufferers have to rigidly adhere to their medication routine because missed doses can quickly lead to the virus becoming resistant to the medication, making them more vulnerable to a progression of their illness.

Kashmir: Militant killed in gunfight with security forces

An unidentified militant has been killed in an encounter with security forces in the forests of Handwara area in Kupwara district, police said today. Security forces laid an ambush in the Bawan forests near Zachaldara, around 100 km from here, last night following information about the presence of militants in the area.

They said contact was established with the militants late in the night and in the ensuing gunfight, one militant was killed. The operation was still in progress till reports last came in, they said.

Egypt President Takes Symbolic Tahrir Oath

Mohamed Morsi the new elected President of Egypt took an informal oath of office on Friday, June 29, in a speech to hundreds of thousands of protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, defying the generals’ attempt to limit powers of Egypt’s first civilian president as reported by OnIslam.net.

“There is no power above people power,” Morsi declared to wild cheers from the crowd, Reuters reported.

“The revolution must continue until all is objectives are met,” he added.

Lock up spies but release fishermen, says Pakistani daily

Spies should be locked up but Pakistan and India must think about how “we treat those fishermen unwary or unlucky enough to cross the invisible line”, said a Pakistani daily.

An editorial in the News International Saturday said that during the past few days there have been two significant releases of Indians from Pakistani prisons.

On Thursday, Surjit Singh was handed over to the Indian authorities – and “he promptly admitted that he was here to spy when he was arrested in 1982. A day later the Indian government denied, not very convincingly, that he was ever a spy”.

Pakistani kills wife, four kids

An unemployed man strangled his wife and four children in a village in Pakistan’s Sindh province, a media report said.

Khushi Muhammad Lashari killed his wife Wilayi, 30, and his four children, aged between four and 10, in Jhalori village, reported Geo News.

The dead children were Nida 4, Sabah 5, Abdul Hakeem, 8, and Aqib, 10.

Lashari was arrested and the police said he was unemployed and used to have domestic disputes.

Terrorism biggest challenge for Delhi Police, says new chief

Terrorism is the biggest challenge for Delhi Police, said new Delhi Police chief Neeraj Kumar Saturday and stressed on the need for better rapport between the police and public.

“Terrorism is number one challenge for Delhi Police and the arrest of Abu Jindal does not mean that terror strikes in the capital would end. It is a dynamic situation,” Kumar said.

He stressed on increase of interface between police and residents.

“Our proximity and interface with public should improve but I am not saying it is poor. A better rapport is needed,” he added.

Gunfight in north Kashmir

Security forces Saturday engaged in a gunfight with the separatist guerrillas in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said.

On specific information, troops of 21 counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and state police surrounded the Bawan forest in Zachaldara (Handwara) area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“As the surrounding troops tightened the cordon, they came under heavy automatic gunfire from the hiding militants, triggering a gunfight,” a senior police officer told IANS.

The gunfight is still on, added the officer.

(Siasat News): The Mahankali police arrested a chain snatcher at General Bazar, Secunderabad on Friday and seized 71 tolas gold ornaments and three motor cycles, together worth Rs. 25 lakh.

According to police, the accused Syed Hussein, 32, a car driver, committed 47 such offences along with his friend Aziz. Police is further investigating whether a gang is behind these crimes or not.

India Friday said it does not indulge in spying on its neighbours, including Pakistan, and dismissed the claim of Surjeet Singh, the Indian who was imprisoned in Pakistan on charges of spying about three decades ago and freed Thursday.

Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh told a press conference here that the Indian government does not accept that Surjeet Singh was a spy for India inside Pakistan.

King Abdullah ordered new expansion of Masjid-e-Nabvi

The Finance Minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf announced that King Abdullah has ordered an expansion of Masjid-e-Nabvi (Prophet’s Mosque) in Madinah to accommodate more than 1.6 million worshippers as reported in one of the leading newspapers of Gulf Arab News on Saturday 30th June.

Haj pilgrims departure starts on 27th September

(Siasat News) The departure schedule of the Hajj pilgrims of A.P. State starts on 27th September. Travel arrangements have been made through Saudi Airlines. They will reach Madina first and then proceed to Makka. They would start returning to Hyderabad from 24th October after performing Hajj. Central Hajj Committee has made arrangements for 8022 Hajj pilgrims of Karnataka for their departure from Hyderabad airport. Arrangements have already been finalized for the departure schedules of the Hajj pilgrims going from 21 places in the country through Saudi Airlines.

Tatkal ticket rules set to get stricter

Faced with mounting complaints of misuse of tatkal scheme, Railways are planning to have dedicated counters and separate time slots for selling tatkal tickets.

Plans are afoot to install CCTV cameras at the ticket counters to keep a close watch on tatkal ticket seekers and making e-reservation more fool-proof.

“Besides, we have decided to bar booking clerks from carrying mobile to reservation counters,” said Northern Railway General Manager VK Gupta, while other officers said the “character of the tatkal scheme will be changed”.
