For EBCs, 1380 in medicine and 12840 seats in Engineering are reserved

(Siasat News) Under B.C. (E) Category 13,164 minority students had appeared for EAMCET engineering stream, out of which 8295 candidates were found to be eligible to seek admissions. There are 3,21,000 seats of engineering available in 667 engineering colleges of the state. If 4% reservation is calculated, the total number of seats works out to 12,840. In this way,under this reserved category for minorities nearly 4000 seats will go vacant.

16-year-old girl rape in car

A 16-year-old girl has lodged a complaint with the police that she was abducted, confined to a car and gang-raped for 20 days by five men in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, police said on Friday.

The girl, a resident of Sikar district, had come to stay with her aunt in Jaipur district’s Rainwal town, from where she was allegedly abducted on June 4. The family members had registered a missing person complaint with the police the day after the girl’s disappearance. However, she could not be found.

CPI-M trying to create rift between Congress, Trinamool: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday accused the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) of trying to cause a rift between her Trinamool Congress and the Congress, which are allies in the central and state governments.

Banerjee’s comments came against the backdrop of tension between her party and the Congress – partners in the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) – on a host of issues, including the presidential poll.

Banerjee has so far firmly opposed the candidature of UPA’s presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee, to whom the CPI-M has extended support.

Verdict in Naroda massacre today, Modi aide among accused

A special court in Ahmedabad is likely to pronounce its judgement on Saturday in Naroda Patiya communal riots case where 97 Muslims were slaughtered by a mob led among others by a former minister in the Narendra Modi government.

Additional principal judge Jyotsna Yagnik had completed the hearing last month and reserved the judgement for Saturday.

The 61 accused include former minister in Narendra Modi government and Naroda MLA Maya Kodnani, ex-VHP leader Babu Bajrangi, local BJP leaders Bipin Panchal, Kishan Korani, Ashok Sindhi and Raju Chaumal.

I get up during nights and look at my daughters and start thinking what would be their future. I start shedding tears and severe headache starts while thinking about hem. The severity of headache can’t be described in words. To make arrangements for their marriages at my old age is unbearable for me. Their growing ages have become the cause of my grief.

Rajesh Khanna improving, likely to be discharged soon

Rajesh Khanna, who is undergoing treatment in Lilavati Hospital for the past six days, will be released in a day or two, his estranged wife Dimple Kapadia said Thursday.

“Rajesh Khanna is much better now. He will be released from hospital in a day or two. He is doing much better now,” she told IANS.

Rajesh Khanna was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra Saturday.
The 69-year-old has been battling health issues for quite some time. In April, he had been admitted to the hospital when he had complained of weakness and was discharged in three to four days.

Abu Jundal, Saeed were in 26/11 control room: PC‎

India believes that LeT founder Hafiz Saeed was with 26/11 key handler Abu Jundal in the control room set up in Pakistan with some kind of “state support”, Home Minister P Chidambaram said today.

“Such a control room could not have been set up without some kind of state support,” he said at a press conference here.

Jundal, 30, arrested here on June 21 on his arrival from Saudi Arabia, had found a “very safe haven” in Pakistan, he said.

Woman alleges miscarriage after being beaten up by MLA

A pregnant woman on Friday lodged a complaint with the police alleging that she suffered a miscarriage after being beaten by a legislator in Jharkhand.

Tara Devi, who was three months pregnant, was allegedly beaten up by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) legislator Chandrika Mahta at her Khajatola village home in Giridih district two days ago over a land dispute.

The woman suffered a miscarriage following the incident, the FIR lodged by the woman said. Superintendent of Police A B Homkar said an FIR has been lodged against Mahta in this regard.

150 fall ill after wedding feast

At least 150 people fell ill after consuming food at a wedding ceremony in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, officials said.

They complained of abdomen pain and vomitted soon after taking the meal last night.

They were rushed to JLN hospital where most of them were given primary treatment. Six had been hospitalised, of which three were discharged today.

The bonanza comes in the wake of the government’s decision to make the much-awaited six AIIMS-like institutes in the country operational and start MBBS admissions from September.

Caste Hindus, Dalits take part in temple consecration

Amid tight security, consecration of the Muthallaman-Mariamman temple was today held in the communally sensitive Uthapuram village near here,with caste Hindus and Dalits participating in large numbers.

The decision of the Dalits to enter the temple last year against stiff opposition from caste Hindus, and the latter building a wall to separate them led to clashes between the two communities, police sources said.

Police officials held talks with both and persuaded them to celebrate the temple consecration in unity, they said.

Gangster Ashwin Naik granted bail

A local court today granted bail to gangster-turned-builder Ashwin Naik in connection with an extortion case.

This is the third case in which Naik was granted bail. He was given bail in an extortion case and an anticipatory bail in another one earlier. This has paved a way for his release.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy confirmed the development.

Naik”s lawyer Bharat Mane said he was released on a bond of Rs 25,000.

Headley’s extradition from US to be discussed: PC

Lashkar-e-Taiba operative David Headley had worked with an American government agency before defecting to Pakistan to turn a terrorist and India will discuss the issue of his extradition with the US, Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Friday.

He said India had got access to the 50-year-old Pakistani American during which sleuths of Indian security agencies had met him in the US, besides getting other reports on Headley.

Russia allows NATO to use air base

Russian has given the approval for the US and its NATO allies to use a Russian air base in Ulyanovsk city as a hub for transits to and from Afghanistan.

Moscow had announced plans to create a NATO transit hub in Ulyanovsk in March, and the decision was taken June 25.

The decision sparked protests in the city, the birthplace of Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin.

Veteran Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov termed the deal “humiliating” for Russia.

But both NATO and Russian officials have sought to allay fears that the hub would turn out to be a full-fledged base.

A prominent Israeli author Sami Michael has criticized Israel as the “most racist state” in the developed world, condemning its policies towards its Arab residents, Al Arabiya website reported on Thursday, June 28.

According to a report published in Israeli newspaper Haarets, Israeli Author Sami Michael said that “Israel can claim the title of most racist state in the developed world,” at the opening of an international conference of the Association for Israel Studies at an Israeli university.

Pak demands more details about Abu Junda

Pakistan Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik on Friday called on India to provide more details about 26/11 key handler Abu Jundal and said criminals using “fake” passports cannot be Pakistani.

“Pakistan expects to receive a copy of the statement of (Jundal). I expect to have original passport claimed to have been allegedly given by (Pakistan),” Malik wrote in a message posted on Twitter late on Friday night.

Indian authorities have said that Ansari alias Abu Jundal — who is an Indian citizen — had travelled to Saudi Arabia on a Pakistani passport.

US targets informal banks for alleged aid to Taliban

To attack the financial underpinnings of Taliban militants, the United States on Friday slapped sanctions against a pair of informal money-exchange networks in Afghanistan and Pakistan for alleged terrorist financing.

The Department of Treasury slapped sanctions against two exchange houses — Haji Khairullah Haji Sattar Money Exchange (HKHS) and Roshan Money Exchange (RMX) — which principally operate in Afghanistan and Pakistan, for storing or moving money for the Taliban.

UAE emirate to upgrade oil storage capacity

The UAE emirate of Fujairah will upgrade its petroleum storing facilities at its sea port.

Emirate’s ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi Thursday directed the Fujairah Port Authority to increase the capacity of its crude storing facilities.

Sharqi asked the authority to invite tenders for the construction of these facilities.

The port currently has seven dedicated berths for oil tankers with a length of 2,340 meters, all boasting the latest equipments for docking and handling.

No restrictions for tourists in Egypt

There will be no ban on wearing bikinis or drinking alcohol by tourists coming to Egypt following the election of Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood as president, an Egyptian official has said.

Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Alaa El Hadidi told the Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily that Egypt would not restrict tourists since tourism accounts for about 12 percent of the country’s GDP.

El Hadidi’s statement came after Morsi’s allies said during the presidential campaign that there will be restrictions for tourists if Morsi is elected.

Iran arrests all suspects in nuke scientists’ killings

All individuals allegedly involved in the assassination of Iran’s nuclear scientists have been detained, the country’s intelligence ministry said Friday.

“All the elements involved in the assassinations of the country’s nuclear scientists have been identified and arrested,” the Fars news agency quoted the ministry as saying.

The ministry suggested Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, was behind the assassinations, saying some of Mossad’s bases in neighbouring states “provided training and logistic support to the terrorist networks”.

UAE-Libya discuss bilateral relations

In a step to promote economic and investment relations, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Libya have held bilateral talks.

The meeting was held between Saeed Obaid Al-Kaabi, ambassador of the UAE and Ahmed Salim Al-Koushly, Libya’s minister for economy.

The meeting discussed economic, trade and investment agreements already signed by the two countries as well as those under consideration.
