The white ration card, which makes a family eligible to get rice at a highly-subsidised price of Rs 2-a-kg and social security benefits health insurance and a permanent housing, has been issued to one Laxmi of Vizianagaram district with a photograph of Sania.
Vijayawada, June 14: Notwithstanding the weightage given to the Intermediate marks while awarding the ranks in Eamcet, the medical council of India (MCI) has set 50 per cent marks in both the examinations as minimum qualifying marks for admission into the medical colleges. As per the latest directive from MCI, the student should have secured marks not below than 50 per cent in Intermediate and also in Eamcet to get an admission into the medical stream through any route.

Hyderabad, June 14: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) member M Shashidhar Reddy on Saturday demanded the state government to set up four
designated hospitals to combat the swine flu instead of the one hospital that exists right now.
Addressing a press conference here, Shashidhar Reddy said the state should take it up as a challenge the fact that it has seen the maximum number of swine flu cases that have been reported in the country so far.

Hyderabad, June 14: Three more persons with swine flu symptoms were admitted to the Government General and Chest Hospital on Saturday. Two of the suspects are children below 10 years of age and are siblings who came to the hospital with their mother.
Hyderabad, June 14: On March 30, Yogesh Srivastava, a medical shop owner received a call from a nervous husband whose wife after a cardiac arrest urgently needed six units of blood for an open heart surgery.
Yogesh, who was in the midst of his work rushed taking three of his friends to the hospital to donate blood. This was the 91st time in 25 years that he donated blood and saved another life. He hopes to soon reach the milestone of donating blood for the 100th time.

New Delhi, June 14: The government has granted one-year extension to Satyam Computer Services for completion of three Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Andhra Pradesh, giving elbow room to the new management of the IT firm.
The Commerce Ministry has granted extension of time to Satyam’s two IT/ITeS SEZs in Hyderabad and the one at Thotlakonda in Visakhapatnam up to June 2010.
All the three tax-free enclaves were given formal approval, which would have lapsed by end of this month.
Kolkata, June 14: The new Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has been accused of neglecting the Ministry at the cost of Bengal politics. Reportedly, the Minister is preparing the Rail Budget without taking any advice from her Ministers of State – KH Muniyappa and E Ahmed – and hasn’t allotted any work to them.
Muniyappa who was a MoS under the former railway minister Lalu Prasad refused to specify the work that has been allotted to him.
“We have to work together, there is no problem,” says Muniyappa.
Macau, June 14: Abhishek Bachchan felt “very gay” as he accepted the best comic actor for his performance in Dostana at the Idea International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards. He dedicated the award to wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
“I dedicate this award to two people – Amar Singhji, who is in the hospital, and my wife Ash. I promise I will only love you (Ash). I am a heterosexual, but today I am feeling very gay,” Abhishek said in his acceptance speech.
Mumbai, June 14: Ghafoor was indicted by the Ram Pradhan Committee’s report on security lapses during the terror attack. Gafoor has been posted as director general of the Maharashtra Police Housing Corporation, a lackluster assignment.
The committee report, which will soon be tabled before the Maharashtra Assembly, is believed to have come down heavily on Gafoor. It says Gafoor failed to take charge of the situation during the terrorist attacks, strategise and take decisions.

Washington, June 14: Revamping its detention policies in Afghanistan, the Pentagon is revising a program to give detainees courses on moderate Islamic teachings, job training and civics as part of efforts to pacify the violence-mired country. “You can’t lock guys up forever,” a US military official in Afghanistan told.
Under the program, detainees deemed moderates at the Bagram airbase, are given courses on moderate Islamic teachings.
They are also given job training and courses on civics, mathematics, and other similar subjects.

24-year-old Hardik Bipinbhai Patel from Gujarat was attacked by a group of men here, the latest in a spate of racial assaults targeting the community members in Australia.
Patel, who hails from Surat, was attacked by three people while he was about to enter his car here on Friday night.
New Delhi, June 14: Gold prices extended losses for the third straight day in the bullion market on Saturday falling by Rs60 to close at Rs14,700 per ten grams as selling pressure picked up on the back of weakening global trend.
Silver also dropped by Rs 200 to Rs 22,800 per kg due to reduced offtake by industrial units. Selling pressure gathered momentum as the metal prices continued to slide in the international market as stronger dollar reduced demand as an alternative investment.

Washington, June 13: Three detainees from Guantanamo Bay were transferred to Saudi Arabia “under appropriate security measures,” the U.S. Justice Department said on Friday, in another step toward President Barack Obama’s goal of closing the prison for terrorism suspects.
“All individuals transferred to Saudi Arabia are subject to judicial review in Saudi Arabia before they undergo a rehabilitation program,” the Justice Department said in announcing the transfer of Khalid Saad Mohammed, Abdalaziz Kareem Salim Al Noofayaee and Ahmed Zaid Salim Zuhair.
All three men are from Saudi Arabia.
Cairo, June 13: A secretary working at a Muslim school in the United Kingdom quit her job following claims that she was really a man cross-dressed as a woman, the Telegraph reported Saturday.
Shifa Patel, 28, who wore traditional Islamic garb-head scarf and full length robe to work, was forced to leave her job as a secretary in the al-Islah Muslim Girls School in Blackburn, Lancashire after photos from social networking site Facebook showing her with short hair and dressed in pants were circulated widely in school as evidence that she was a man dressed as a woman.
