Swine flu: Three more admitted in hospital

Hyderabad, June 14: Three more persons with swine flu symptoms were admitted to the Government General and Chest Hospital on Saturday. Two of the suspects are children below 10 years of age and are siblings who came to the hospital with their mother.

The suspects one eight-year-old and another four-year-old ad arrived in city by an Indian Airlines flight on June 12 and developed symptoms on June 13. Since their mother had no symptoms of swine flu, she was not quarantined. Another suspect, a 24-year-old MS student from Austin, US, got admitted at the hospital as he developed symptoms of the flu on Saturday. He is a native of Kurnool.

The health officials in the city and districts have screened 30 passengers who were sitting in rows within six feet of the patients (three rows before and behind) for symptoms of the infection. “Since most of the seats next to the two positive cases were empty not many people had to be screened. No one was found with the symptoms so far,” H1N1 Influenza Nodal Centre coordinator K Subhakar told STOI. He said that though the positive cases had increased in the city, the general public should not worry as there was just a single case of human-to-human transfer.

The officials said that the reports of four suspected cases and grandmother of the toddler were expected in the next two days.
