Nishank sworn in Uttarakhand CM

Dehra Dun, June 27: Ramesh Pokhryal Nishank today was sworn in fifth Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Governor of the state BL Joshi administered oath of office and secrecy to him in a ceremony.

Governor on Friday invited him for forming the government. It is worth mentioning here that Nishak met Governor in Nainital and staked claim for forming government.

Nishank was elected leader of BJP legislature party on June 24 after Khanduri announced his resignation.

Ranjit Singh Pankaj new CIC of UP

Lucknow, June 27: Senior IAS officer Ranjit Singh Pankaj has been appointed new Chief Information Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, a post lying vacant for past eight months.

His name was approved by Governor T V Rajeswar on a recommendation from the state government, official sources said today.

The state government has sent his name to the Governor on June 24 and he gave his consent yesterday, they said.

The 1992-batch officer, who is a Dalit, is at present Secretary Mines.

M&M signs two MoUs with State Bank of Hyderabad for ‘Vehicle Finance’

Mumbai, June 27: M&M signs two MoUs with State Bank of Hyderabad for ‘Vehicle Finance’Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), a leading automobile manufacturer, has signed two MoUs with State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) for vehicle finance.

As a result of these MoUs, SBH will now become a preferred financier for Mahindra vehicles, encompassing both commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles.

The lender quoted in an official release that for commercial vehicles, customers can avail of loan up to 85 per cent of the on-road price of the vehicle, with tenure of 3-5 years.

Clinton finds a messenger woman for Muslims

Washington, June 27: United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said Farah Pandith will play a “leading role” in engaging Muslims across the world in her new capacity as Special Representative to Muslim Communities.

Pandith, a Muslim woman whose roots can be traced to India’s northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir, was appointed by Clinton as the US Special Representative to Muslim Communities early this week. This is part of the Obama Administration’s effort to reach out to the Muslim communities across the world.

Bar owner, property developer shoots self

Mumbai, June 27: A 42-year-old bar owner and property developer committed suicide on Friday evening by shooting himself at his office. Heavy debts are believed to have driven him to take the drastic step.

Mahesh Anant Naik alias Ganesh shot himself on the right side of his temple with his licensed revolver at his Arya Developers office at Sheetal Nagar in Mira Road around 6.05 pm. Naik, who owned the Aishwarya Bar and Restaurant, located next to his office, pulled the trigger as he was worried about repaying his debts.

Close shave for passengers of Kingfisher flight

Kolkata, June 27: There is narrow escape for the passengers of Kingfisher Airlines as its wings got damage just before the flight is about to take off from Kolkata airport for Bagdogra here.

According to the sources, the incident took place at 4:35pm when the kingfisher flight which was about to take off for Bagdogra with 135 passengers on board. The plains wing got damage just before the flight is about to take off.

The airport officials told media persons that no casualties have been reported.

Search for bodies of Air France jet ended

Brazil, June 27: Brazil’s military has said it had ended its search for more bodies and debris from an Air France jet that plunged into the Atlantic nearly four weeks ago.

The 26-day operation, which also had the help of French vessels and French, Spanish and US aircraft, recovered 51 bodies of the 228 people who were on board the Airbus A330 that came down on June 1, air force spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Henry Munhoz told reporters late Friday.

Arrest warrant against Enos Ekka, Harinarayan Rai

Ranchi, June 27: A court here Saturday issued arrest warrants against former Jharkhand ministers Enos Ekka and Harinarayan Rai, who have been accused of graft.

The warrants were issued by the special vigilance court of Vinay Kant Khan on a plea by the vigilance department Friday.

While investigating the case against the duo, the vigilance department found that Ekka had assets worth Rs.3.73 crore (over Rs.37 million) more than his known sources of income and Rai had assets worth Rs.1.16 crore more than his known income, a vigilance official said.

Jharkhand Olympic Association officials accused of fraud

Ranchi, June 27: A case was lodged Saturday against the general secretary and treasurer of the Jharkhand Olympic Association (JOA) for allegedly embezzling funds, police said.

The case against JOA general secretary S.M. Hashmi and treasurer Madhukant Pathak was lodged at the Lalpur police station here by B. Shankar Prasad, president of Badminton Association of Dhanbad.

Hashmi is also the convener of 34th National Games Organising Committee (NGOC).

Former Delhi legislator’s wife arrested for fraud

New Delhi, June 27: Delhi Police Saturday arrested the wife of former Delhi legislator Ranbir Singh Kharb for duping investors to the tune of Rs. 4.75 crores (Rs. 47.5 million). Kharb was arrested June 17.

‘We have arrested Anita Kharb from Uttam Nagar, this morning,’ said a police official. Anita and her husband were operating a finance company, where Anita was one of the directors.

Though the family said they are frightened after the June 15 attack on them, they have decided to stay back at the centre following assurances from the police.

Ahmadinejad lashes out at Obama

Tehran, June 27: Iran’s hardline president is lashing out anew at the United States and President Barack Obama. Ahmadinejad, who was re-elected this month in disputed vote says the U.S. response to the turmoil is a mistake.

He hints it could imperil Obama’s aim of improving relations with Tehran.

“Why did he interfere?” Ahmadinejad said in remarks to judiciary officials shown on Iranian state television Saturday.

“They keep saying that they want to hold talks with Iran but is this the correct way? Definitely, they have made a mistake,” Ahmadinejad said.

Iran has banned an ally of the country’s opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi from leaving the Islamic state, the official IRNA news agency reported on Saturday.

Abolfazl Fateh, head of Mousavi’s media office, said the ban would not change his political stance, adding he was banned from leaving Iran because of his role in post-election developments.

Karzai invites Taliban to vote in election

Kabul, June 27: President Hamid Karzai is calling on Taliban and other militants to “vote for the president they want” in Afghanistan’s Aug. 20 presidential election.

Karzai is also telling the militants that they should vote for the provincial council delegates they support. Karzai was speaking during a news conference Saturday at the presidential palace.

Forty-one candidates are running for president. A recent poll showed Karzai with a big lead over his opponents despite the increasingly bloody Taliban-led insurgency.
