Ram Kapoor to host ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’

New Delhi, May 29: Television star Ram Kapoor, famous for his portrayal of Jai Walia in TV serial ‘Kasamh Se’, is now set to host controversy queen Rakhi Sawant’s wedding on reality show ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’.

In the show, to be aired on NDTV Imagine, the item girl-cum-actress will choose a groom for herself with the help of the viewers.

Apart from being the show’s host, Ram, who was last seen as a contestant on dance reality show ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 3’, will play Rakhi’s friend and guide and says he is extremely excited about his new role.

Man held trying to sell live cartridges

Mumbai,May 29: The crime branch arrested a man who had come to sell 970 imported live cartridges at Null Bazaar in south Mumbai on Thursday.

The police are now trying to ascertain how Maqsood Zahid Khan (31), who trades utensils in exchange of old clothes, had come in possession of the bullets in their original sealed packaging.

Senior inspector of Unit 2 Mangesh Potte said on Wednesday, constables Anwar Memon and Irfan Shaikh received a tip-off that somebody wanted to sell bullets. Khan was arrested and 500 bullets seized from him.

Railway cops bust gas racket

Mumbai,May 29: In the wake of the Dharavi cylinder blast, which injured six children last week, the railway police busted a racket where gas from domestic LPG cylinders was filled into tins. These tins were sold to jewellery manufacturers in the suburbs.

Vikas Chaurasia (20) and Munna Sekhasaria (32) have been arrested. All railway policemen were on the alert for inflammable substances being carried on trains.

‘Petrol bomb hurled’ at Indian youth in Australia

New Delhi,May 29: In a fresh attack targeting Indians in Australia, a student suffered up to 30% burns after a suspected petrol bomb was hurled at him in his home in Sydney.

According to local newspaper for Indian community, South Asia Times, 25-year-old Rajesh Kumar was quickly covered by a blanket by his flatmate after the attack yesterday, an act which saved him from further injuries.

Man assaults wife with hammer for refusing food

New Delhi,May 29: In a unique case where a woman has come to the defence of her daughter-in-law and demanded arrest of her son for assault and attempt to murder, police have registered a case against a resident of Farsh Bazaar in east Delhi for attempting to murder his wife. The case has been filed by the accused Sanjay’s (37), mother Kamlesh.

According to the police, Sanjay had a tiff with his wife Manju (34) over his drinking habits. The accused reportedly came home on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm after a binge drinking session and demanded lunch.

Jaipur boy enacts suicide, dies

Jaipur,May 29: In a horrific incident, a 13-year-old boy died while imitating a suicide scene which he had witnessed in the neighbourhood. The incident took place at Dadabari locality in Kota on Wednesday.

The boy, Sunil, was living with his parents and elder brother Pradeep (15) at Shivpura Colony. His father, Purushottam Rawal, is an employee of a jewellery shop.

Woman murdered by paramour in Delhi home

New Delhi, May 29: A 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed to death a married woman he was in a relationship with before attempting suicide at the woman’s rented house in southwest Delhi Thursday, the police said.

Pintu and Poonam, 25, were found in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries on the third floor house in Dabri area when the woman’s husband Munna, who works in the export-import company just below the house, went to check on his wife.

Prime Minister expanded Council of Ministers; Portfolios distributed

New Delhi, May 29: Expanding his six-day-old Council of Ministers by inducting 59 ministers, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made Anand Sharma the Commerce Minister and allocated the portfolio of HRD to Kapil Sibal, Law to M Veerappa Moily and Road Transport and Highways to Kamal Nath.

With this induction, the size of Council of Ministers went up to 79- 34 Cabinet Ministers, 7 Ministers of State with Independent Charge and 38 Ministers of State.

AP govt seeks more funds from Centre for irrigation projects

Hyderabad, May 29: The Andhra Pradesh Government has sought more funds from the Centre for the implementation of its massive ‘Jalayagnam’ (irrigation mission) project taken up with an outlay of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

“We are trying to get more funds from the Centre. We had some problem earlier because we did not have permissions for the irrigation projects”.

Katrina denies split with Salman

Mumbai,May 29: As the news of her split with Salman Khan spreads like wild fire Katrina Kaif has gone into damage control mode. She has rubbished reports that Salman was throwing all her belongings from his Galaxy Apartments den.

Tobacco is a deadly killer

Banglore,May 29: Inhaling air exposed to `bidi’ or cigarette smoke is more hazardous to health than contracting a disease from a garbage dump!

At the launch of a study titled `Current science of tobacco’, director of Healis Sekhsaria Institute of Public Health P C Gupta said tobacco is the single largest cause of death in India, more than HIV/AIDS, TB or malaria combined.

“Smoking kills 9 lakh people per year. The challenge is to protect India’s young population of 600 million people below 30 years,” he explained.

U.S. Presses China for Tough Response to North Korea

Washington,May 29: The United States is pressing China to consider taking a variety of severe sanctions against North Korea, including the inspection of suspect ships and planes, as it tries to ratchet up the global response to Pyongyang’s latest nuclear test, administration officials said Thursday.

MANGO CUSTARD

Ingredients:

1 cup Skimmed Milk
1 tsp Coconut extract
3 tbsp firmly packed Brown sugar
2 cup Ripe Mangoes, chunks
1 tsp Lemon juice
1/4 cup Cornstarch

How to make mango custard:

Combine mango chunks, lemon juice and coconut extract and blend until smooth.
In small saucepan, combine remaining ingredients.
Mix until cornstarch is dissolved.
Stir in mango mixture.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil.
Continue to cook and stir for 2-3 minutes.
Transfer into a bowl and let it cool.
Chill thoroughly.
