IndiGo launches its First ever International Operations to Hyderabad from Dubai!

IndiGo, India’s premier airline launched its new daily flight on the Dubai-Hyderabad sector today, with an Airbus-320 aircraft. The new Dubai-Hyderabad flight will be IndiGo Airlines’ first international service to Hyderabad, and its first service from Dubai to Southern India.

No religion-based reservation, says Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday rubbished demands of reservation for Muslims on the basis of religion and said the idea cannot work as it is not permitted by the Indian Constitution.

“Even if we want to do it (reservation on the basis of religion), we can’t do it because it is not possible due to the guidelines in the constitution of our country. But we will try to bring in more and more backward sections of the community under reservation for the overall development,” said Banerjee while addressing a programme here.

Kingfisher suspends flights to many cities, asks staff to stay home

Kingfisher Airlines Tuesday suspended operations to several cities as per a new holding plan and asked the staff to stay home till the time it manages fresh funding.

“We are in a ‘holding’ pattern right now and are waiting for various decisions from the government and our Consortium of Bankers on FDI (foreign direct investment) policy, working capital funding, etc.

“All of these will have a major impact on the staffing decisions we will have to make,” Kingfisher said in a statement, responding to speculations that the airline was going to lay off a large number of its staff.

Severe sandstorms engulf Saudi cities

The General Presidency for Meteorology and Environment yesterday warned of possible severe sandstorms in the northern and eastern regions and Riyadh. It also warned of below-zero temperatures in the northern areas of Tabuk, Turaif and Al Qurayat in the next few days.

PME spokesman Hussein Al-Qahtani said the sandstorms are the result of high winds buffeting the Kingdom. “We are now in transition from one season to another, and the Kingdom is usually affected by different rates of temperature in addition to high wind speeds,” he said.
